You will be included in the family as much or as little as you like during your stay without having to do the dishes. They are offering you a stay in a private room in the main Ranch house. Join 9 Finger Ranch for one or all three of the home-cooked meals, a daily planning session, town errands when needed, gardening, relaxing, or whatever else you might do that day. You have access to an unlimited supply of coffee and various teas. Let 9 Finger Ranch spoil you!

All accommodations meet the quality standards established by HI-Canada for the comfort and safety of the guests. The ranch is close to Riding Mountain National Park and is run as natural as possible. The perfect option to get a taste of the life on a ranch. As part of the package, you will be assigned one of the 2 available rooms in the ranch house.

Amenities available

The East Room has a bunk bed (double bottom, single top) and a single bed and the West Room has the bunk bed (double bottom, single top). These rooms offer a great opportunity to connect with 9 Finger Ranch while also giving you your own space. You will have access to the TV in the common room and hi-speed Internet access in your room. The two rooms share a bathroom.

Program

Meet your ride

On the first day of your stay, 9 Finger Ranch House will match you up with one of the horses. This will be your horse for the stay! They will show you how to take care of it and give you a quick “how to ride” lesson (all depending on your past experience with horses) before taking you out on your very first ride: a one hour ride at the ranch.

Activities

When not riding, you get to decide what you would like to do: stay on the ranch or not. Let them know beforehand what your interests are and they will try to accommodate you. When special events are announced, they will share them with you. If you do not have your own vehicle and 9 Finger Ranch will arrange your pick up, one day of touring in the area is included in the transportation fee. The entrance fee to the Riding Mountain National Park is included when riding with 9 Finger Ranch. You are more than welcome to go back to the park on your own but please note that you will need to pay separate entrance fees.

Last day

On your last day, a special BBQ will be held in the park (weather permitting) to finish off the week on a great note. Reminisce about your week, all the things you learnt and saw and maybe plan your next holiday with 9 Finger Ranch.

Note: When planning your experience in the park, please remember to add two extra hours to the planned riding time for preparation and transportation. When choosing outdoor activities, please note that 9 Finger Ranch is not responsible for cancellations due to bad weather. Should 9 Finger Ranch cancel your ride, they will refund your deposit. Some activities are not available year-round. Some activities may require additional costs such as entry fees or licenses.

Location

A member of Hostelling International, the 9 Finger Ranch is situated amidst rolling hills and lakes, offering a stunning view up to the Riding Mountain National Park. The most western entrance is only a 15 minutes’ drive away. The hostel is situated halfway between Winnipeg and Regina. (320-kilometre North West of Winnipeg, 300-kilometre East of Regina, and 150-kilometre North of Brandon). 9 Finger Ranch is 12-kilometre northeast of Rossburn. They are close to fly-fishing lakes, the Trans Canada Trail, lots of historic sites, and a renowned 9 hole golf course, just to name a few.

Food

Food is grown in the garden or the pasture as nature intended it and procure additional items locally. Wholesome home-cooked meals are a promise to you. After a hearty breakfast (of course, you can also have a light version), lunch is kept simple, so that it can be to go as well, when going on trail rides. The main meal in the evening does end with a homemade dessert.

Driving directions from East via Highway16

  • From Winnipeg turn onto Highway 1 West. After Portage La Prairie turn onto Highway 16 (Yellowhead Highway). *turn onto Highway 2.
  • Turn onto Highway 45 in Russell.
  • Follow it until town entrance to Rossburn.
  • Turn left (North) onto Highway 264N
  • Stay on it for 3.2 kilometers (2 miles).
  • Turn right (East) onto pr 577.
  • Stay on it for 6.4 kilometers (4 miles).
  • Turn left (North) onto Road 141 W for 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles)
  • 9 Finger Ranch is on the right-hand side.

Driving directions from the East via Highway 16

  • Turn onto Highway 21 North in Shoal Lake which brings you to Oakburn.
  • Turn West onto Highway 45 bringing you to Rossburn.
  • Turn right (North) onto 264N.
  • Stay on it for 3.2 kilometers (2 miles).
  • Turn right (East) onto pr 577
  • Stay on it for 6.4 kilometers (4 miles).
  • Turn left (North) onto Road 141 W for 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles).
  • 9 Finger Ranch is on the right-hand side.

Note: Once you are getting closer to finding us, keep in mind that you won’t see the ranch from the road. 9 Finger Ranch has a big rock with the business sign by the road. Follow the path straight through the trees (do not drive downhill as that leads to the barn). Go slow as there may be dogs and other guests. Please come to the house to register and they will point you to your lodging or activities from there.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 25% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
