The whole scene here is rocks with various shapes such as petals, flower branches with a number of beautiful limestone,s and winding road that will make you feel so small in front of grandiose nature.
Day by day, ADV Vietnam Motorcycle Tours & Dirtbike Travel will adjust the itinerary how to match your desire and riding skill, and weather conditions as well.
On the first day, you will head out of the city on the quiet dyke road along the Red River instead of riding on the busy main road. This route offers an immense view of the rural areas which are located beside the colorful and large rice fields on the delta.
You will continue to move on Road 32 to reach Thu Cuc, after lunchtime you will follow the snake road along hills of green tea fields, palm trees, and rustic villages of the Black Thai people. Today, most of the distance is easy and flat from Hanoi to the beautiful town located at the foot of Hoang Lien Son Range called Nghia Lo.
The highlight of this day is riding on a 40-kilometer single dirt track along the Ngoi Thia river under the shadow of the cinnamon forest and then crossing a violent stream of water in two different ways adventurously: bamboo raft in the dry season or wood boat with capstan in the rainy season. After two and a half hours on the track, you will have lunch at a small restaurant beside the road with many tasty dishes. For the rest of the day, 120 kilometers of seal road with a long zig-zag road distance will take you to the hotel before dark.
In the early morning, you will check the bikes and spare parts carefully and prepare a picnic lunch before embarking on a hard but exciting ride. After riding through small paved roads with many extremely sharp bends, you will turn into a small village to start a climb up to the peak of the mountain called Kio Lou Tie. This is the second-highest summit of the Northeast area situated 2,300 meters above sea level. In the afternoon, you will take a short ride down to Hoang Su Phi town.
Today, you can wake up a bit later than usual because it is not a long day, then enjoy the unique flavor of a highland town that is only separated from China by the Tay Con Linh range, the roof of Northeast. After breakfast, the steep road full of challenges ahead will take you along the Tay Con Linh range. The weather will be cooler day by day when you get uphill. Pack your luggage in a dry bag carefully since it has many dangerous springs during the ride today. You will have a late lunch on the main way before riding to highway No. 2 which leads to Ha Giang city. As soon as checking in to a homestay, the tour leader will come to the local Government to apply permit which can allow foreigners to ride along the China border the next day.
A day of riding through the winding passes on the rugged mountains awaits you today. If you love sightseeing it will be a great day for the places you drive through today are considered as the Himalayan range of Northeast Vietnam. You will ride on a muddy and slippery road along the border belt, you will see small houses of the Hmong, Dao, and Lo Lo people on the high mountains. Stop to drink a cup of cooking water which is taken from the rare small slit running down from the mountain. The water here is very rare, with no rain in a year. Someone said that just clinging and surviving on this land people are considered heroes.
Still winding roads run along the rocky peaks, but the climate, scenery, and people are changed day by day. From Dong Van, you take a short ride to Meo Vac market via Ma Pi Leng pass where riders can look down on Nho Que river from an impressive viewpoint called the edge of Tu San abyss. After crossing the Nho Que river at noon on the bamboo raft with capstan, riders will face the ride on a 30-kilometer dirt road beside the river bank to get to the hotel before dark.
A short ride of 100 kilometers in which 35 kilometers is dirt-road. Today will be a day of crossing rivers, through villages, and spending time exchanging with locals. However, try to have lunch together at a homestay point before 12:00 p.m. then get on the boat for Ba Be Lake in the afternoon. Swimming, rowing, or just relaxing are the best ways to finish a beautiful day. Enjoy the night in a village nearby one of the biggest mountainous lakes in North Vietnam that can make you understand more about the daily life and culture of hill tribes in Vietnam.
The last day of this motorbike tour in Vietnam comes, say goodbye to the high mountain land, and you again join the crowd to ride towards the Red River Delta. Soil, dust, noise, and pollution will gradually replace deserted roads and foggy villages. Be careful, your steering wheel is still not familiar with the crowded streets.
It is time to say goodbye.
In some areas of Vietnam, Vietnamese people join traffic with no rules. They can participate in traffic right after drinking beer and wine, use horns loudly to surpass, pass on the right, turn left or right with no turn signals, or ride into the other vehicle lanes.
It is hence recommended to stay safe when riding motorbikes in Vietnam and in addition to learning the basic regulations of the law on road traffic, you also have to know about the traffic habits of Vietnamese people. Please be mindful of keeping right from the traffic, and monitoring the speed at the allowed limits of 40 kilometers per hour in towns and 60 kilometers per hour outside of towns.
It is recommended to use the horn and flash headlights when your view is limited at the corners. Also, use turn signals and also turn your head to look back when you want to change the lane or directions. Be careful when you want to surpass because many people cross the street, change the lane, or directions without any signal, likewise when you ride in the tracks or cross the forests, please be over cautious.
Please remember many local people and their animals have a habit of crossing the road freely and hence caution needs to be exercised at all times.
