Álaind Lodges: Your countryside escape to nature

Álaind (pronounced 'all-ind') means beautiful place in old Irish and their bed and breakfast (B&B) sits on the edge of the beautiful village of Sneem on The Ring of Kerry.

Álaind Lodges is a relaxing countryside B&B escape with luxury ensuite rooms, tasty breakfast, and relaxing garden spaces - like a home away from home. While staying at Álaind Lodges, you can immerse yourself in nature, being located on a quiet lane at the foot of the Sneem Dunkerron Mountains.

The peaceful bedrooms at Álaind Lodges B&B feature ensuite bathrooms with a comfortable double bed to ensure a relaxing stay. Wooden floors, satellite television, power showers, and fluffy towels will also add to the enjoyment of your stay.

Program

On the less-frequented walks with 'Solitude Ratings' of 10 out of 10, time will slow down as you soak up the fabulous coastal views of Kenmare Bay and the Wild Atlantic.

Álaind Holidays' ‘moderate’ guided walks along the Kerry Way, with beachfront and unspoiled hillside trails, stay close to the coastline and even finish on a spectacular white sandy beach. You'll enjoy the company of your like-minded fellow walkers who may be the only people you encounter on each day's walk.

Participants will stop to view the wild Irish flowers and keep a watchful eye for wildlife including hares, foxes, mountain goats, deer, and the white-tailed sea eagles. At the end of each walk, the group will have time to relax with a beverage, with the option of a wild swim or perhaps even a rejuvenating seaweed bath.

The evening time will be a chance to explore the village of Sneem and its restaurants and pubs. You can enjoy some live music or meet some of the friendly locals and have a chat.

What you can expect on your walking holiday

On Day 1, guests for the Discover the Ring of Kerry's Wild Side holiday will arrive at Álaind Lodges on Sportsfield Road, Sneem, Co. Kerry, V93AC80. In the evening, the small group of walkers will gather for a welcome drink and a holiday briefing.

The next day, after a tasty and full menu breakfast, you'll choose your lunch pack for the day and gather your walking gear and get ready for the day's walk.

Álaind Holidays carefully selects their walks for you to enjoy the best parts of the Ring of Kerry, allowing you to feel immersed in nature. They'll take you to places you will not find on your own, favoring pristine and less-travelled routes.

You'll walk circa 10 to 12 kilometers / 6 to 7 miles and usually spend four and a half to five hours exploring the scenery, history, stories, flora, and fauna of the area.

On return to your accommodation, you will be free to enjoy some apres-walk refreshments, relax for a bit, try some wild swimming, or even go for a seaweed bath.

Sneem Village offers a good selection of cafes, bars, and restaurants for your evening meal and often, Álaind Holidays guests choose to dine together, but that will be up to you.

This trip is for everyone who loves walking on way-marked trails but also likes to spice it up with a few hills and grassy or rough tracks. Rest assured that the group will take plenty of stops to take in the views and chat. Álaind Holidays will keep the group together, so that everyone will have a rewarding experience.

You'll feel refreshed and rejuvenated after the experiences you have shared with your fellow walkers. What’s more, these holidays are ideal for couples, groups, and single guests.

Learning about Sneem’s glaciated landscape, how the lakes, mountains, and Ireland’s bogs are formed, and about the animals and plants that live there will be fascinating.

Things to do (optional)

Sneem Seaweed Baths

What better way to relax and rejuvenate after a day of walking? Ideal whether in poor weather or in lovely weather, a hot soak in beautiful wooden barrels overlooking the South Kerry mountains and Sneem estuary will "wash away your worries with a smile."

Cycling

You’ll be rewarded for spending as much time as possible exploring the Ring of Kerry. What better way to experience the sights than by bike?

Beaches

Sneem is blessed with some of the finest pristine beaches only a short drive west of the village. Favorites are White Strand at Castlecove and Derrynane Beach.

Ring of Kerry drive

This route circumnavigates the entire Iveragh Peninsula and is full of breathtaking scenery. You can extend the route by adding the smaller Skellig Ring to your itinerary. However, if you don’t want to do the driving yourself, you can take a chauffeur-driven tour.

Kerry Cliffs

Higher than the Cliffs of Moher and very convenient to Sneem, they offer a not-to be-missed experience located between Ballinskelligs and Portmagee.

Skelligs boat trip

The UNESCO World Heritage Site, Skellig Michael, is where the early Christian monks built their remote retreat on the island in the Atlantic. How they lived is a fascination to be beheld, as are the puffin and gannet colonies and inspiring scenery.

Golf

Keen golfers with a few hours to spare should seize the opportunity to play a round in the Parknasilla nine-hole golf course. It’s a scenic gem on the shore of Kenmare Bay and a tricky, quirky course too.
