Hiking and Sailing Tour in Greece

Experience seascape serenity - sailing, hiking and gastronomic delights in Greek islands. One week of hiking and sailing plus SUP usage are expecting you this summer in Greece. ALT TRAVEL LTD will be sailing every Saturday from Athens to the Saronic Islands. Final route depending on the local weather conditions. You will get to visit 4-5 beautiful Saronic destinations and hike every day on different unique place,swim in bays with crystal clear waters, explore every destination and visit interesting ancient monuments such as the ancient theater of Epidavros, have a free bath at ancient Pafsanias thermal spring, the ancient sunken city, the temple of Athena, etc. There will be an experienced professional skipper on board. Groups up to 8 guests plus skipper and yoga instructor. Boats from 43 feet (3 quest cabins) to 56 feet (4 quest cabins).

On board, there are available 3 to 4 double beds or bunk cabins (upper and lower) for guests and one cabin or bunk for the crew, along with 2 to 3 WCs with showers. There is a fully equipped kitchen, hot and cold water, an electric refrigerator, and an outside shower.

All boats are fully equipped and fully insured for chartering. If you are not familiar with the layout of a sailing boat before booking you may visit one at your local marina.

During your trip, you will be sharing your double cabin with your travel companion or another person from your group (same-sex). You can book the whole cabin for yourself with an extra cost. But maybe you are an outdoor person and want to watch the Mediterranean sky as you fall asleep. Sleeping on deck is always an option if you wish to do so.

Program

There will be 6 days (Sunday - Friday) of sailing OR motoring in total. This is a sailing trip tailored for travellers who would like to have holidays on a yacht hiking to unique places and relaxed. Please be informed that comfort is limited on board.

As an experienced skipper, ALT TRAVEL LTD will take care to not take any risks on sailing days so the final itinerary and sailing or motoring conditions depends on wind force and direction. They will also be spending time in each port discovering the island by scooter, on foot, or enjoying a nearby beach.

Itinerary

  • Aegina, Ancient Epidavros, Poros, Vathi Methana, and Agistri

This is an itinerary that balances sailing, exploration, and hiking.

Day 1: Arrival day

The trip starts with your embarkation on board on Saturday evening after 6 p.m. You will meet your fellow travellers, and you will have a briefing about safety, etc.

Day 2: Athens - Aegina

  • Sailing: Depart from Athens (Alimos or Kallithea Marina).
  • Exploring: Visit Aphaia Temple for stunning views, stroll through Aegina town, and taste famous Aegina pistachios.
  • Hiking: Light hike to Mount Oros (531m) for panoramic island views.
  • Anchorage: Agia Marina or Perdika for a quiet overnight stay.

Day 3: Aegina - Ancient Epidavros

  • Sailing: 3 hours sail with stopover for swimming and light lunch.

Ancient Epidavros

  • Exploring: Visit the Ancient Theater of Epidavros, one of Greece’s most iconic archaeological sites.
  • Hiking: Walk to Kastraki Hill for views of the Saronic Gulf.
  • Anchorage: Small port of Ancient Epidavros.

Day 4: Ancient Epidavros - Poros

  • Sailing: Head south to Poros, passing the scenic coastline with a stop over for swimming and light lunch.
  • Exploring: Visit the Clock Tower and Poseidon Temple ruins.
  • Hiking: Trek through Lemon Forest (Lemonodasos), a fragrant walk with beautiful landscapes.
  • Anchorage: Poros town.

Day 5: Poros - Vathi (Methana Peninsula)

Sailing: 3 hours trip to Vathi, a charming fishing village on Methana peninsula with a stopover at Pafsanias thermal spring, where you can have a 20-minute free bath.

  • Exploring: Discover Methana’s volcanic landscapes.
  • Hiking: Hike to the Methana Volcano (1.5-2 hours, moderate difficulty) for an otherworldly experience.
  • Anchorage: Vathi Port.

Day 6: Vathi (Methana) - Agistri

  • Sailing: Head to Agistri, a lush green island with turquoise waters.
  • Exploring: Swim and relax in local beaches with turquoise waters.
  • Hiking: Trek from Skala to Aponisos, a scenic coastal path.
  • Anchorage: Megalochori or Skala Port.

Day 7: Agistri - Athens

  • Sailing: Return to Athens with a final swim stop at Moni Island (uninhabited, great for snorkeling).
  • Arrival in Athens around 6pm and enjoy a dinner at a nearby local tavern.

Day 8

  • Disembark at 09:00.

You will depart from either Alimos Marina or Kallithea Marina in Greece.

Marinas and anchorages:

  • Agia Marina (good shelter, close to Aphaia Temple)
  • Perdika (picturesque fishing village, great for seafood)
  • Aegina Town Marina (best for supplies and nightlife)
  • Alternative hiking spot: Eleonas (Ancient Olive Grove) – Easy hike through 2,500-year-old olive trees

2. Ancient Epidavros

Marinas:

  • Small port of Epidavros (close to the ancient theater, good shelter)
  • Nea Epidavros Bay (more secluded, crystal-clear waters)
  • Alternative hiking spot: Sunken city of Epidavros (snorkeling and walking path) – Ruins visible underwater near Kalymnios Beach

3. Poros

Marinas and anchorages:

  • Poros Town Marina (lively, many tavernas, water/electricity available)

4. Vathi (Methana Peninsula)

Marinas and anchorages:

  • Vathi Port (small, peaceful fishing harbor)
  • Methana Marina (larger, better for supplies)

5. Agistri

Marinas and anchorages:

  • Skala or Megalochori Port (good shelter, lively area)

Please note that final destination depends from the local weather.

Food

Please note that only coffee and tea are included on this trip although always there are some provisions on board. What guests usually do before departure is to go to the supermarket and buy provisions for the breakfast and light lunches onboard. When in ports, you will be having dinner at the local tavernas (optional). The food in Greece is not expensive. The calculation for your food is about 200 EUR for the whole week.

Historical site tips and entry information

Aegina – Temple of Aphaia

  • Entry fee: ~6 EUR
  • Best time to visit: Early morning (before 10 AM) to avoid tour groups.
  • Tip: The temple aligns with the Parthenon in Athens and Temple of Poseidon (Sounion), forming an ancient "Sacred Triangle".

Ancient Theater of Epidavros

  • Entry fee: ~12 EUR (includes the Sanctuary of Asclepius)
  • Best time to visit: Morning or late afternoon (avoid noon heat).
  • Tip: The theater has perfect acoustics – try whispering from the center of the stage!

Poros – Temple of Poseidon

  • Entry fee: Free
  • Best time to visit: Sunset for breathtaking views over the Saronic Gulf.
  • Tip: Ancient Athenian orator Demosthenes is said to have died here.

Methana Volcano

  • Entry fee: Free
  • Hiking tip: Bring a flashlight for exploring the lava cave formations.
  • Best time to visit: Sunset hike (cooler and stunning views).

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

After your arrival at Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos Airport) (ATH), you will get the bus number X96 or a taxi to the marina in Athens.

Because ALT TRAVEL LTD's boats are moored in different moorings you will get the exact mooring location one day before the departure. The cost to the Marina by bus is 5 EUR and the taxi is 50 EUR. This is not included in the price. Your skipper will expect you on board.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 35% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
