All meals will be vegetarian or vegan if specified. It is also possible to tell Amorawa before attending if you have any kind of food allergy or intolerance.
Is it necessary to follow a previous diet?
Yes, it is common and widely recommended to follow a pre-diet at least three to four days before taking Ayahuasca. The diet is intended to prepare the body and mind for the Ayahuasca experience, as this medicinal plant can interact with certain foods and medications, and the diet can help avoid complications or discomfort during the ceremony.
In addition, the diet can facilitate a deeper connection with the medicine and the purification process. Below, Amorawa provides a general guide to the recommended diet and the foods not recommended before taking Ayahuasca.
Recommended diet before Ayahuasca:
Refrain from drugs and medications
Avoid the use of psychoactive substances, such as alcohol, marijuana, recreational drugs, and certain medications. If you are taking prescription medications, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional about whether it is safe to temporarily stop using them.
Light foods
Choose a light and simple diet to facilitate purification and avoid stomach upset. This includes fresh vegetables, fruits, light soups, and whole grains.
Avoid processed foods and high-fat foods
Avoid processed, fried, or high-fat foods as these can make digestion and the experience during the ceremony more difficult.
Avoid stimulating foods
Avoid foods containing caffeine, such as coffee, tea, and chocolate, as they can interfere with the Ayahuasca process and affect the quality of the experience.
Avoid foods high in tyramine
Tyramine is an amino acid found in certain foods and can interact with Ayahuasca, potentially causing unwanted side effects. Examples include aged cheeses, cured meats, red wine, and fermented foods.
Avoid foods rich in tryptophan
Tryptophan is an amino acid found in certain foods and can influence serotonin in the body. It is advisable to avoid foods rich in tryptophan before the Ayahuasca ceremony. Some examples are turkey, chicken, and dairy products.
