Stay in this oasis

You can book a room right above the retreat space in a spacious, sunlit room with an attached bath, shared kitchen and terrace overlooking the farmland. Start and end your days with the sights and sounds of many species of colourful, chirping birds.

The property is built on a spacious green plot of private land and made using the rammed earth technique. The building remains cool even in summer. The cool, earthen walls provide great resonance and a cave-like feeling to intimate retreats and community gatherings.

Additionally, tamarind, banana, mango and other trees and organic vegetables grow onsite.

The building

A Sunlit Path is located on the ground floor. On the first floor, there are 7 rooms, and on the ground floor, 2 rooms. All come with an attached bath and shared kitchen and are available on a short or long-term basis. Other amenities:

Throughout this intensive foundational training, A Sunlit Path will be covering a wide variety of essential topics and practices. These will help you develop the proper foundations of an effective and genuine mantra and Nāda yoga personal practice.

After the completion of this training, you will be able to:

Deep listening meditation

  • Discovering and aligning to the vibrational foundations of the universe through external and internal listening. The witness consciousness.

Sanskrit sounds (the anatomy and physiology of mantra)

  • In-depth study of the Sanskrit alphabet phonetics following the IAST (International Alphabet for Sanskrit Transliteration), tapping into the secrets of its 50 phonemes as the core seed (bīja) mantras.

Types of mantras and the building of a mantra repertoire

  • Fundamental nāma (name) and bīja (seed) mantras for japa (loop repetition)
  • Invocations
  • Kirtan (devotional group singing)
  • Selection of some important sūtras and sacred scripture verses

Instruments and tools to accompany the practice of mantra

  • Traditional (tanpura, shruti box, bell, drum…) and non-traditional (handpan, guitar, kalimba…) instruments and their use in mantra and Nāda yoga practice
  • The japa māla: different types and how to utilize it properly.
  • Mudrā practices to accompany your mantra recitation.

Core philosophical and theoretical principles of mantra and Nāda yoga

  • The six-rule principles of mantra recitation.
  • The four levels of sound and their application to mantra and listening meditation
  • The core understanding of what yoga is and how mantra and Nāda come into the picture

  • 05:30 - 06:45 Deep listening Nāda yoga and mantra Japa Sādhana
  • 06:45 - 07:30 Gentle āsana and prāṇāyāma practice to begin the day
  • 07:30 - 09:30 Breakfast break (eating, resting, free time)
  • 09:30 - 10:30 Morning class (principles of chanting, mythology and context, yogic wisdom, explanations)
  • 10:30 - 12:00 Morning practice (mantra ceremony)
  • 12:00 - 14:30 Lunch break (eating, resting, free time)
  • 14:30 - 15:30 Afternoon class (principles of chanting, mythology and context, yogic wisdom, explanations)
  • 15:30 - 17:00 Evening practice (mantra ceremony)
  • 17:00 onwards Free time for walking, temple visits, journalling, silent integration, dinner and early rest for rejuvenation

A Sunlit Path is located in Tamil Nadu (Southern India) on a spacious green plot of land, situated on private property within the experimental township of Auroville. The retreat centre is very close to Solar Kitchen and a 15-minute walk to Matrimandir.

Food

Vegetarian meals will be served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. You will also get snacks twice a day. Other specific dietary requests may be entertained on request.

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Chennai International Airport (MAA). Auroville is accessible by road from Chennai airport. It takes about 3 hours by bus or cab.

Arrival by taxi

From Chennai airport, you can take one of several cab services directly into Auroville. You can call A Sun Path from the Auroville gate to get further instructions.

Arrival by bus

Tamil Nadu State Transport buses as well as numerous private buses are available from the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) bus station in Koyambedu, Chennai.

Arrival by train

You can also get from Chennai airport to Koyambedu via Chennai metro trains.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 30% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 30 days before arrival.
