Daily itinerary
Day 1: Segovia (world heritage city)
This tour starts in the city of Segovia, the world heritage site since 1985. Segovia will surprise you with the beauty of its ancient architecture. You will spend two nights in Segovia. Walk around, get immersed in the charming ambiance of its historic quarter, and discover the hidden jewels of this friendly and wonderful city.
Day 2: Circular route to Segovia (historical royal palaces)
- Distance: 38 kilometers / 24 miles
The first cycling day will take you to two of the most significant royal palaces in Spain. First, you will visit the Palacio de La Granja de San Ildefonso, an early 18th-century building at the foothills of the Guadarrama mountains. With its baroque style, its French gardens, and its sculptural fountains, this palace was the summer residence of the Spanish kings since the reign of Philip the Fifth and nowadays is a public museum. Then the route will take you to the Palacio Real de Riofrío, an Italian-style edifice surrounded by a quiet forest with deer and fallow deer. Finally, you will return to Segovia to keep enjoying this wonderful city.
Day 3: Segovia - Pedraza
- Distance: 49 kilometers / 30 miles
Today, you will be cycling through quiet roads and stunning landscapes. The sunshine, the warmth, and a pleasurable ride will take you to the town of Pedraza. This is surely one of the most beautiful walled towns in Spain. Your imagination will no doubt go back to the Middle Ages. Take your time to explore every corner of this astonishing place.
Day 4: Pedraza - Sepúlveda
- Distance: 42 kilometers / 26 miles
Today’s cycling day will take you to the Duraton Canyon, one of the most awe-inspiring places in the region and home to the largest population of griffon vultures in Europe. You will see hundreds of them flying around you. At the end of the cycling day, you will reach Sepúlveda, another well-preserved medieval village that allows you not only to travel through space but also through time.
Day 5: Sepúlveda - Peñafiel
- Distance: 55 kilometers / 34 miles
Today, you will cycle into the region of La Ribera del Duero, quite famous for its amazing wines to finally reach the town of Peñafiel, which is best known for the Peñafiel Castle and for its medieval square named Plaza de Coso. The square is surrounded by private homes, but since medieval times the rights to use their windows, balconies, and doorways during bullfights are owned by the town. Ants on Track do not like bullfighting at all but is part of the story of their country. In Peñafiel are located some of the most relevant wineries in Spain and they can arrange a visit to one of them on request.
Day 6: Peñafiel - Aranda de Duero
- Distance: 43 kilometers / 27 miles
This beautiful cycle for the river Duero will take you through vineyards to the historic town of Aranda del Duero in the province of Burgos, well-known for its wonderful wines and capital of the Ribera del Duero region. You can visit some wineries as well and enjoy the local food and bars.
Day 7: Aranda de Duero - Ayllón
- Distance: 50 kilometers / 31 miles
Today, you will discover the ancient town of Ayllón, of probably the Celtiberian foundation. It was destroyed by the Romans under the command of Marco Fulvio Nobilior in 190 BC. Repopulated during the Arab occupation in the 10th century, it was named Aellon for the first time in 1076. You will reach this wonderful village after a cycling day along quiet roads through the evocative landscapes of the Spanish plateau.
You will come across the historic town of Maderuelo, where you will walk through its streets and discover the most interesting places that this Segovian town treasures. This town has been declared a Historic Site for its beauty and its historic heritage. History that you will breathe in every corner.
Day 8: Ayllón - Riaza
- Distance: 49 kilometers / 30 miles
Another beautiful day traveling through the province of Segovia to discover the so-called Pueblos rojos - red towns, of ferruginous sandstone; the Pueblos negros - black towns of slate; and the Pueblos Amarillo - yellow towns, of quartzite-based constructions. The geological diversity of this area immerses you in a colorful journey. An exciting day full of contrasts on the foothills and slopes of the Sierra de Ayllón. The medieval town of Riaza is one of the most beautiful towns in the province of Segovia. In 1970, it was declared a historic artistic site.

About the tour
The tour starts in Segovia. The city is famous for its historic buildings, which include three landmarks: its Roman Aqueduct, its Gothic style cathedral, and the ‘Alcázar’ - from the Arabic voice Al-Qasr - meaning ‘castle’, which served as an inspiration in Disney’s Cinderella’s Castle. The city center was declared of World Heritage by UNESCO in 1985. Throughout the tour, you will visit some of the most bucolic and astonishing villages in the Iberian Peninsula - Pedraza, Sepúlveda, Ayllón - and you will cycle along breathtaking landscapes through the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park.

Helmets
In Spain, helmets are mandatory when cycling through interurban roads. They recommend you always wear a helmet while riding and must ask you to use it whenever it is legally compulsory. They also recommend bringing your own helmet, but in case you do not want to carry it around, you could borrow one from them at no extra cost.
Bicycles
They offer both trekking bikes and electric touring bikes. Cyclists are responsible for Expedición 23 de abril, S.L. bicycles during their trip and any damage to or loss thereof. Cyclists are also responsible for minor repairs such as punctures. Expedición 23 de abril, S.L. will supply bikes in good condition and of the right size for each cyclist. One member of their staff will be waiting for you at the hotel’s reception hotel to hand the bikes over to you on the morning of your first cycling day at 9:30 a.m.
If you prefer to settle at a different time, just let them know and they will try to help. The bike mechanic will adjust the bikes and solve all your possible doubts or queries. They will provide you with a helmet, a rear pannier, a map holder per person and a pump, a lock, a multi-tool, spare inner tubes, tire levers, and patches for every two people.
GPS tracks
They will provide you with GPS tracks and detailed information to upload the tracks to your mobile phone or GPS device. You can also hire a GPS device per group for 30 EUR.
Support along the route
They will be taking care of you during your program. They have an emergency phone number where you can get in touch with them in case of any trouble. They will do their best to help you with any difficulty you may have.
Luggage
Please note that your belongings are your responsibility. They cannot accept any responsibility for loss, damage, or accident involving property. Your travel insurance should cover this.
