Meaning and Practice of Yoga Asana’s

The word Yoga literally means “becoming One”.

Unfortunately this deep meaning seems forgotten in the western world and while in some yoga traditions exercises are called asana’s we can see today that the word asana has been replaced by the word yoga and with that, the deeper meaning is lost.

Originally yoga is a spiritual path, a spiritual way of living based on ethics. Asanas did not exist in the beginning existence of yoga. Only much later do they enter as instruments.

In the Yoga of Nâm which we call LivingNâm we do not use asana’s as we work with different very powerful instruments which are complete on themselves.

However, as we are experiencing, the body is part of that experience. And for some people, it can be helpful to use the body as a bridge or an entrance towards a meditative state.

Working towards a specific state of mind which we can call a meditative state is what counts and asanas can be a preparation towards that. This is the place we want to give the yoga asanas given in Asharum Amonines and therefore these retreats are always a combination of asanas and meditation practice.

In this regard, it can be helpful to be in silence during (part of) your stay.

Asha Meditation and HarpMood

Part of the program is the daily meditations in the Asharum, called Asha meditation and HarpMood.

In the Asha meditation, the first 15 minutes a regular rhythm is maintained, usually with a rattle and combined with voice, as a preparation for the state of silence in the second 15 minutes.

In the evening the meditation consists of a HarpMood. The mystic Yoginâm plays the Harp as a way of communication. It is not harmonious musical entertainment, the sounds bypass the mind and connect with your soul. When you adopt an attitude of openness you can experience its benefits.

Daily rhythm during the yoga retreat:

  • 08.00 Yoga class (75 minutes)
  • 09:15 Breakfast
  • 10:00 Asha meditation (30 minutes)
  • 14:00 Warm lunch
  • 17:00 Yoga class (75 minutes)
  • 19:00 HarpMood (30 minutes approximately)
  • 20:00 Supper

The first yoga class is always the next morning in order for you to arrive in a calm manner

  • The program ends on the last day after 10 a.m. Asha meditation

Asharum Amonines is situated in the Ardennes of Belgium, close to the village of Erezée in the province of Luxembourg. The house and the surroundings are special because of its beauty and the tranquillity of the area, where life is still lived at a quiet pace.

The house itself is situated on the leylines of Wéris; an area where many megalithic structures are the vibrant remnants of an ancient past.
