Itinerary

Day 1: Chiang Mai - Doi Inthanon - Mae Sariang (278 kilometers / 173 miles)

You will have an early morning meet-and-greet at your accommodation in Chiang Mai. You will be provided with the tour briefing, riding gear, and bike, informed briefly of local history, and geography, and given any personal requirements. Lastly, you will have a general question-and-answer opportunity for any concerns you might have about the tour.

Familiarize yourself with your bike on the highway ride heading south of Chiang Mai to Doi Inthanon National Park, the highest peak in Thailand, 2,565 meters above sea level. Ride along the excellent winding mountain road through pine forest scenery. Visit Thailand’s finest waterfall, nature trails, Royal pagodas, and botanical gardens. Descending to Mae Chaem for a relaxing lunch at the local restaurant.

After lunch, ride on passing through pine forests until you reach Mae Sariang where you'll later enjoy your peaceful accommodation.

Day 2: Mae Sariang - Mae Hong Son - Pai (287 kilometers / 178 miles)

After breakfast, leave Mae Sariang to Mae Hong Son on narrow twisty curvy roads. In Khun Yuam, you will take a break and visit a World War II museum. Visit the long-neck Karen tribe village near the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, the first temple of Mae Hong Son on the hilltop. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.

Visit Lod cave, which means, “cave with a stream running through”, on a bamboo raft. Then back on twisty curvy roads to Pai. You'll have an optional visit to Tha Pai hot spring where you can enjoy a mineral bath. Then, you will reach a charming accommodation with a swimming pool.

In Pai, you dine on delicious local food in a restaurant near the river. In the evening after dinner, you can enjoy the delights of the Walking Street market.

Day 3: Pai - Chiang Mai (136 kilometers / 85 miles)

Before breakfast early in the morning, you will have a chance to offer food to the monks along the streets of Pai's local market. After breakfast, visit the Pai World War II Memorial Bridge. After that, you will be back on winding mountainous roads. Lunch is served at the Tiger Kingdom, where you can have photos together with wild tigers. Continue along winding roads, passing farming areas before heading back to Chiang Mai City.

Note

The tour will start in the morning, at 08:30. Motorcycle Tours Thailand advises you to arrive at least one day before the tour starts in Chiang Mai and they recommend arrival two days before the tour start to acclimate and avoid jet lag.

The tour will finish at about 16:00 - 17:00 back in Chiang Mai, so if you like to fly back the same day to Bangkok International Airport (BKK), you can easily catch any flight from Chiang Mai after 18:00.

Rules on the road

You will drive on the left as in England and Australia. All speed limits are in kilometers per hour, 30 to 50 for towns, 60 for suburbs, and 90 for major (A) roads and dual carriageways. You will happily cruise along the open road at a good clip, but you must always slow right down through the towns and villages, 50 kilometers per hour maximum. There are often kids, dogs, chickens, yak, etc., kicking around in the streets.

Also, if you see your guide braking, there’s a good reason - and you should brake, too! Many Thais ignore the typical unwritten rules of road positioning and merging you are used to in the West. You will go over this in person so don’t worry. There is always a “sweeper” and a service vehicle to make sure any riders caught by a traffic light or water buffalo crossing delay do not get separated from the group!

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX). Transfer from and to this airport is included in the price. Motorcycle Tours Thailand will pick you up at the airport.

Most customers touring with Motorcycle Tours Thailand usually come from Bangkok and in this case, they recommend traveling up to Chiang Mai by one of the many flights operating on this route. It is not expensive and with companies such as Air Asia. The earlier you book, the cheaper the flight.

Arrival by bus

A lot of buses start every hour from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit - Chatuchak) to Chiang Mai. Travel time with the bus will be around eight hours.

Arrival by train

The train (night train) is another option; however, the Thai train network needs a serious overhaul. Take a look at the difference between the train cost and the flight costs compared to one-hour flying time or a 12-hour train journey along with the fact that the trains are notoriously unreliable. The train option is usually the odd one out.

Airport: Chiang Mai International Airport Airport transfer included: Chiang Mai International Airport No additional charges. You can request this in the next step.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 10% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
