Join Bigger Life Adventures at the amazing eco-retreat Finca Camino Nuevo in Monteverde, Costa Rica, for this magical week in the cloud forest. Finca Camino Nuevo offers comfy and modern rooms, indoor and outdoor communal spaces, a pool and jacuzzi, a maloca ceremonial space, a sweat lodge, forest trails, a tree net you can climb into easily, and more. Watch different types of monkeys, and birds and enjoy a view out to the Gulf of Nicoya from your patio. Finca Camino Nuevo is a special place designed with love, only available for yoga retreats and ceremonies, so your stay is a special privilege.

Inspired by nature and sacred geometry, Finca Camino Nuevo has been built by creative artisans using organic and local materials. “This is definitely a very mystical place perfect for those looking to be in direct contact with nature and in a peaceful environment,” guests have said. Private or double rooms are available. All rooms have a double bed, a single bed, a private bathroom with solar-heated hot water shower, locally made biodegradable soap, and an amazing view down through the valley of San Luis and out to the Gulf of Nicoya.

From your balcony, you can sometimes view rainbows and usually a never-ending variety of tropical birds. The upstairs rooms have patios with outdoor furniture and downstairs rooms have patios with hammocks. Upstairs and downstairs rooms will be assigned on a first-booked, first-choice basis. Sometimes guests are even greeted by monkeys right outside their rear balcony in the morning.

Program

Get ready to enjoy beautiful bio-diverse forests, view tropical birds and other wildlife, and even climb up into the trees to experience the canopy. The retreat includes accommodation, daily yoga and meditation, plant-based food, tours with local nature guides, and an eco-friendly tree-climbing experience. The peaceful Finca Camino Nuevo retreat center is your home base, providing comfy single or shared rooms, an alcohol-free environment, ta emescal sweat lodge, a tree net, a hot tub and pool, an art-filled yoga shala, and more.

You will meet twice a day for yoga and meditation - all trauma-informed with options for all levels - more energizing in the morning and relaxing or Yin style in the evenings before dinner. Yoga is always accessible to all levels and optional if you need to sit one out or connect differently. All classes are themed around the chakra system and “re-wilding” and will incorporate philosophical concepts and ways to take yoga off the mat and into the world.

Just like the biodiverse jungle of plants surrounding you, when you come together to connect and learn from others from different backgrounds, something truly beautiful takes shape. There will be daily or twice daily yoga and meditation of various styles (Vinyasa, Yin, Yoga Nidra, pranayama, Restorative) guided by Carrie and Zach. A chance to deepen your practice and grow! Classes will be themed around philosophical concepts in yoga and cater to the group’s needs and interests. All levels are welcome.

Included excursions

One amazing adventure Bigger Life Adventures offers in this biodiverse paradise is tree climbing with ropes and safety gear, in order to get up close and personal with the majestic giant strangler figs. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hang out in the cloud forest canopy with epiphytes (the special plants growing from the tree branches), birds, magical clouds of mist, and so much wonder. Local, knowledgeable tree-climbing guides are the people who first started climbing the strangler figs with ropes, and later founded the nonprofit project Palo Vivo.

Supporting Palo Vivo helps bring outdoor education and conservation education to local school children. Tree climbing will be fully supported with expert guides, ropes, and gear. A safe but thrilling adventure. Also included in this retreat is a guided ecology tour in the magical Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. For many, this is a reason on its own to travel to Costa Rica.

You will spot many birds, animals, and plants, hopefully even the rare and mystical Resplendent Quetzal. Expect to hike two to four miles on nature trails for this excursion, while viewing and learning about incredible plants and animals thanks to local guides and their wildlife-spotting skills.

Location

Monteverde, Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse regions on earth. Costa Rica as a tiny country is home to a whopping 6 percent of this planet’s biodiversity. Monteverde has six distinct ecological zones that are more than 90 percent virgin forest. The region is home to more than 2,500 unique plants, 100 different mammals, 400 species of birds, 120 reptiles and amphibians, and thousands of insects. The area around Monteverde is home to many scientists and nature lovers, and this yoga retreat allows attendees to learn so much while diving into the unbelievable beauty.

A short trail behind Finca Camino Nuevo takes you to a rope ladder that guides you into a sturdy tree net. The tree net is a great place to relax in the cloud forest canopy. You can watch birds, and monkeys and look closer at the incredible plants that call the tree canopy home. The canopy is the place to notice epiphytes. These plants latch onto the large trees, pulling water out of the misty, cloud forest air. One type of epiphyte you might be familiar with is the orchid. Monteverde is home to over 500 species of orchids, more than any other place in the world.
