It is Breathing Space's belief that the deepest learning comes from actually doing. Therefore, supported teaching spaces where apprentices facilitate are an integral part of the course. Very quickly, apprentices will be facilitating Breathwork Foundation seminars and Online Breathing Spaces which have a global audience. But don't worry! You will be given all the skills and support you need to start leading. The Apprenticeship program is a huge commitment in time and energy, but it is also a tremendous opportunity. If you are ready to take this journey, then they would love to help you.
Breathing Space is a recognized by the Global Professional Breathwork as a Certified Breathwork School. All Graduates are issued with a Certificate.
Training to be a Breathwork Facilitator is a demanding journey, especially as an Apprentice. To be sure that this is the right time for you to start your journey, Breathing Space will start the process with a discovery call. This will help you both decide if it is the right time for you and Breathing Space to work together.
When you have paid a deposit, you will be welcomed into the Breathing Space Facilitator Circle as an Apprentice and invited onto Unit 4 to start the reading for the course. It will be up to you and your teacher when you officially start the course with your first meeting together.
The content for Units 1, 2, and 3 is delivered via Breathing Space's Online Platform. The content of the units will be discussed with your Teacher during your weekly session. Unit 4 is made up of the self-directed home study. The readings and graduation projects are completed independently but must be recorded on the Online Training Platform to be assessed.
Unit 5 is the practice group and one-on-one practice sessions. Although these are completed outside of the course, self-evaluation and participant's evaluation are recorded in the Online Training Platform.
Unit 6 involves daily practice and a personal journey that apprentices are expected to go on. This is not a formally assessed unit of work but it is expected to be completed as they can not be expected to hold students in a safe space while going through their personal journey if they won't go on their own. As part of Unit 6 students are required to attend at least one Online Breathing Space every week.
Breathing Space is different from many other facilitator training courses because we provide spaces where trainees and apprentices can lead and facilitate members of the public in their Online Breathing Spaces.
We are currently running 6 Online Breathing Spaces per week, any of which trainees can attend. After each Breathwork, we have a facilitator only "After Breathe After Party", where we celebrate the facilitator for stepping up to deliver the Breathwork. All Breathing Space Teachers, Mentors, Graduates, Apprentices, and Trainees are welcome.
It is a requirement of the course (Unit 6 - the Personal Journey) to attend at least one Breathing Space a week.
What makes this pathway powerful and unique is the relationship between the Teacher and Apprentice. Although this is an ancient way of learning in the wisdom traditions, we don't think that it exists anywhere else in the Breathworking world. As you make your way through the coursework online, you will meet up once a week (or on a schedule that is mutually convenient for you both), to check in with your progress, answer any questions, and experiment with different breathwork techniques.
Every teacher/apprentice relationship will be different depending on the needs of the Apprentice, but something very special always emerges.
Community and connection are a key part of Breathing Space so you are invited into the Breathing Space Facilitator Circle! This is a community of all Breathing Space Teachers, Mentors, Graduates, Apprentices, and Trainees.
There is also always a space to support each other’s journeys as facilitators by asking (and answering!) questions and of course checking in with each other. We also have an Online Space for their Facilitator Circle with recordings of all Masterclasses, a place to book on to support or run different Online Breathing Spaces and Foundation Seminars, and a Facebook group to ask (and answer) questions about Breathwork, Facilitation or Breathing Space.
To graduate from the course there are a number of requirements. Apprentices have one year from the start date to complete all coursework.
All online content must be completed for units 1, 2, and 3. All apprentices must complete any work assigned in these units (usually this involves contributions to discussion points).
Apprentices must receive 5 one-on one-sessions (from other trainees) and facilitate 5 groups Breathworks and 5 one-on-one sessions. You must sign up to facilitate one Online Breathing Space and one Foundation Seminar, but it is also expected that apprentices organize their own group Breathworks as well. At least one Breathwork must be observed by a teacher or mentor. A Self-evaluation form must be filled in for each of these (5 one on ones and 5 Group Introduction to Breathwork Sessions). 5 One-on-One Participant Feedbacks and 10 Group Feedbacks must be obtained.
Apprentices must be prepared to go on a deep Personal Journey and to go to their most tender and vulnerable spaces. Apprentices must commit to a daily breathwork practice. This does not have to be long or deep - a few minutes each day is enough. Rescues, revelations, and reveals should be recorded in a journal or a breathwork log.
The mentor must be satisfied that the Apprentice has met a sufficient level of skill to graduate as a Facilitator. It is their responsibility to make sure that this happens and apprentices will know at all times if they are not meeting the required standard.
Breathwork Facilitators take people through the deepest of emotions and the most transformative of experiences. They can only safely hold people if they themselves are prepared to go to their most tender and vulnerable spaces again and again. This can be uncomfortable for sure, but it is the only way to become a true facilitator - we have to walk the path as well as talk the talk.
We certainly do not have to know everything, be perfect, ‘fixed’, or ‘healed’ to be a good facilitator. In fact, anyone who thinks that they are enlightened will probably not make a good facilitator and you should run a mile! But they do have to properly show up and not just turn up - and be prepared to go to some uncomfortable places. This is where the growth and the healing are and where you will find your strength and power as a facilitator.
In addition, there is the Breathing Space Facilitator Circle on alternate Thursdays which is optional but highly recommended to attend (90 minutes each).
To complete this training, you will need to save some time to attend the following:
You will meet online every second Thursday at 7 p.m. (just before the Thursday Online Breathing Space) where someone (either a Breathing Space Facilitator or an invited guest) will present a masterclass around Breathwork or Facilitation.
It is also a requirement to attend at least 1 Breathing Space per week, at different timezone. The UK time is the following:
While other timezones available are:
Breathing Space is currently running 4 Online Breathing Spaces per week, any of which trainees can attend and then start to facilitate.
You will also be required to have a meeting with your mentor (1 hour) per week. The time and day will be discussed between the both of you to find the best time that works.
All times are based on BST/GMT+1 and GMT (after Oct. 30, 2022).
The Breathing Space Apprenticeship is a unique pathway to becoming a Breathwork Facilitator.
Specifically, it will provide the following experiences and skills:
This Apprenticeship is completely online. It consists of :
It is Breathing Space's belief that the deepest learning comes from actually doing. Therefore, supported teaching spaces where apprentices facilitate are an integral part of the course. Very quickly, apprentices will be facilitating Breathwork Foundation seminars and Online Breathing Spaces which have a global audience. But don't worry! You will be given all the skills and support you need to start leading. Learning to be a Breathwork Facilitator is primarily practical and experiential but there is an element of academic work to be completed in this course. This will be discussed further in the course outline. Apprentices are invited into the Breathing Space Facilitator Circle where they hold regular masterclasses and round table discussions on Breathwork and Facilitation. You will also have access to a huge library of recorded Conscious Breathwork journeys and Breathwork workshops and connect with the whole Breathing Space family.
The Apprenticeship program is a huge commitment in time and energy, but it is also a tremendous opportunity. If you are ready to take this journey, then they would love to help you. They really hope that you are as excited about this course as they are!
You might be a healing professional or space holder who wishes to add Breathwork to your offering. You may be a life coach or talk therapist who wants to add another powerful tool to their practice. Or you may just be someone looking to reach your own potential. Either way, this course is designed for those who have experienced the profound, life-changing power of the breath. Someone who resonates with the Breathing Space Manifesto and feels a calling to bring powerful healing and transformation into the world. Breathing Space is committed to being an inclusive and safe space where all emotions are welcome. They strive to make Breathwork accessible to those who wouldn't normally be able to access it and they ask that their students are committed to these values as well.
There are 6 units of work to be completed in the course. Units 1, 2, and 3 forms the bulk of the theory. The course content is a mixture of pre-recorded videos, text, and downloadable resources on the Online Platform. Each week, you will meet with your mentor one-on-one to discuss the theory.
Provides apprentices with all of the skills and resources that they need to safely run a breathwork session including abreactions. Content is delivered online and in discussion with your mentor.
You will delve into the empirical side of breathwork and look in-depth at the anatomy and physiology of the breath. You will also have two seminars exploring trauma and one seminar on the history of breathwork.
In this unit, you will cover advanced facilitation skills including voicework, touch, angel training, and building a business.
In addition to the content that will be covered in the first three units, there are three self-guided units. These must be completed in order to graduate (however unit 6 is not formally assessed).
Apprentices must choose, read, and then submit three reports on books from an extensive reading list. Apprentices must also complete a ‘graduation project’ (which could be a website, app, podcast, dissertation, series of artwork for instance) - which will ideally help their own development and spread the interest in breathwork.
The only real way to become a breathwork facilitator is to facilitate Breathworks. It is therefore a graduation requirement for trainees to deliver 5 group breathworks and 5 one on ones. Self-evaluation and participant feedback must be completed for these. Opportunities for this are given through the Online Breathing Space, mentoring on Breathing Space's Foundation class seminars but it is expected that apprentices will also organize their own too.
If we are to hold others deep in the process, we have to be prepared to go on a continuing journey of self-exploration and healing. Unit 6 is not directly assessed, but it is expected for apprentices to have a daily practice and commit to regularly go to their deepest and tenderest edges on a Personal Journey.
After graduating you will be a licensed Breathing Space Facilitator for 12 months. You will be very very welcome to attend (and present!) at the Thursday meetups, celebrate facilitators at the After Breathe After Parties, and book yourself on to run an Online Breathing Space or Foundation Seminar whenever you like.
To stay licensed after the initial 12 months, you will need to:
If you do not wish to carry on using the Breathing Space name, you are encouraged to develop your own style and business as well. Breathing Space has support in place to assist you with this transition when the time comes.
The Apprenticeship can be completed between 6-12 months. The more you put into this course, the more you will get out of it. It's very much an experiential course. Students should expect to commit 3-5 hours per week to this course.
