The Casale Fusco country house is a beautifully restored old country home located on 18 acres, 10 kilometers northwest of Spoleto. It serves as an excellent base for day trips throughout Umbria, including Deruta, Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Trevi, Bevagna, Montefalco, Todi, and Orvieto.
Casale Fusco features majestic sweeping views from its hilltop location and it is accessed from a paved country lane. 18 acres are divided into vineyards and olive groves. The garden and a terrace with a panoramic view create the perfect atmosphere for tranquil days. The surrounding tourist facilities include a swimming pool, horseback riding, and convenient restaurants.
The area is perfect for mountain-bikers and trekking. For the adventurous, rafting and rock climbing are available in less than an hour's drive. Just outside the house in the adjoining garden, is the swimming pool. Exposed to sunlight from dawn to sunset and nicely embedded in a well-kept green surrounding, it provides a quiet and gorgeous space that overlooks a wide horizon and offers an ideal oasis for relaxation and outdoor activities. The pool is open from the beginning of May to the end of September, depending on the weather condition.
On the upper floor, there are five bedrooms with two independent entrances.
Four of the five guestrooms have a private and modern bathroom. It is possible to combine two or three adjoining bedrooms to create an area for a family or a group of friends that would sleep four or seven adults and one infant and include two bathrooms and a kitchenette. The combined rooms can be accessed by their own entry.
All the bedrooms and the entire residence are furnished and decorated with family furniture and heirlooms dating from the late 1800s.

They can also experiment with the soft hills that cover much of the area, dotted with olive trees and vines and fine dominated by villages and castles. The climbs longest and Apennine passes are the ideal gyms for all kinds of cyclists.

Day 1
You will be transferred from the airport to Casale Fusco in Spoleto. This afternoon, you will enjoy a welcome drink and a short presentation on your biking holiday.
The dinner will be at the traditional homemade food restaurant. Selected wine and water will be included. You’ll spend an overnight at the accommodation.
Day 2
After breakfast at 08:00, you’ll meet the staff at the Casale Fusco lobby for greetings and take the bikes. Your first bike path will start as a round trip Spoleto – Assisi. The distance is about 100 kilometers, difficulty easy, with road surface asphalt, gravel road. Packed lunches are individually prepared for bikers.
Assisi’s Roman origins are evident in several monuments such as the façade of the Temple of Minerva, the Amphitheatre, the City Walls, and the Forum. Its Roman name was Asisium. Following the fall of the Roman Empire, the town was occupied by the Goths and at a later time by the Longobards.
During the Middle Ages, Assisi became an independent municipality and flourished especially thanks to the monastic movements (the Benedictines Order in particular). Its most illustrious citizen was Saint Francis. He was born in 1182 and was canonized as a Saint in 1228, only two years after his death, by Pope Gregory IX.
Later on, several Signorias ruled the town, including the Signoria of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, of the Montefeltro line, of Braccio Fortebraccio, and of Francesco Sforza, until the half of the XVI century, when Umbria was conquered by Pope Paolo II, who restored the papal power on the town. It was only later, in the XIX century, that the town became part of the emerging Italian State.

Day 3
After breakfast at 08:00, you’ll meet the staff at the Casale Fusco lobby. Your second bike path will start: round trip Spoleto – Norcia, distance about 60 kilometers, difficulty easy, with road surface asphalt, gravel road. Packed lunches are individually prepared for bikers.
Norcia is an ancient Sabine city, Nursia, a Latin name, was conquered by the Romans and became an important municipium. It was a free municipality in the 11th century, and when it passed to the Catholic Church in the 1400s it was granted considerable autonomy. Saint Benedict was born circa 480 AD. And even though the town was destroyed more than once by earthquakes (in 1703, 1730, and 1859) many works of art and historical memories connected to the life of the founder of the Benedictine Order can be found.
Then, you will return and have dinner at a traditional Italian Pizzeria this evening. Selected wine and water will be included. You’ll spend an overnight.
Day 4
After breakfast at 08:00, you’ll meet the staff at the Casale Fusco lobby. Your third bike path will start: round trip Spoleto – Todi, distance about 90 kilometers, difficulty easy, road surface asphalt, gravel road. Packed lunches are individually prepared for bikers.
Todi is an ancient Umbrian origin. Todi was one of the towns in contact with the Etruscan civilization that flourished on the right bank of the Tiber River, and it was a thriving center in the 5th-4th centuries BC. In Roman times it was a colony and a municipium. Todi's lofty position and solid defense system saved it from destruction during the barbarian invasions, and it was able to live in relative peace during the turbulent early Middle Ages.
In the 12th century, it became an independent municipality, the start of a very prosperous period, which saw the construction of many of its outstanding monuments. Its independence did not last long, however, due to the continuous fighting against Spoleto, Orvieto, and Narni.
In 1230 the leading religious poet of the 13th century was born in Todi: Jacopo Benedetti, better known as Jacopone from Todi. Political and military instability continued until the 16th century when, after being under various rules, Todi became part of the Papal States, remaining there (except for the Napoleonic period) until 1860.

Day 5
After breakfast at 08:00, you’ll meet the staff at the Casale Fusco lobby. Your fourth bike path will start: round trip Spoleto – Montefalco. The distance is about 50 km, difficulty easy, road surface asphalt, gravel road. Packed lunches are individually prepared for bikers.
Montefalco was already an important municipality in Roman times due to its dominant position above the valley connecting Spoleto and Perugia. From the 11th century, the town flourished in the culture of the free communes and the Renaissance.
The 13th and 14th centuries saw many clashes with the surrounding communes, particularly because it often sided with the Papacy against the Ghibelline lords of Foligno, the Trinci family. The Foligno seigniory dominated the town for about 50 years, until it was liberated in 1424 by Francesco Sforza. The regaining of freedom led to the drawing up of the municipal statutes and a veritable rebirth of the arts and the economy. This period saw the evolution of Montefalco's present historical town-center layout and the artistic development that reached its height with the masterpieces by Benazzo Gozzoli in the High Renaissance period. It was only in a much later century, after having lost and regained its independence, that the town received the title of "city" from Pope Pius IX in 1848.
Next, you will return to Casale Fusco and have a rest. At 16:00, you will visit Spoleto, a bronze-age town located on the slope of a sacred mountain in the Apennines, just one of their numerous ancient Roman and medieval sacred sites is the Duomo, which is home to Filippo Lippi’s last fresco cycle.
Spoleto is an important fortified Umbrian settlement; Spoleto became a Roman colony and later a municipium (90 BC). After the fall of the Roman empire, it was taken over first by Theodoric, king of the Visigoths, and then by the Byzantine Belisarius. Seized by Totila, it was rebuilt by the Byzantine general Narses. In the early Middle Ages, it became the capital of the Longobards Duchy of Spoleto.
In 1155 Spoleto was conquered and destroyed by Frederick Barbarossa, and after a series of conflicts between the Guelfs and the Ghibellines, it was conquered again by Cardinal Albornoz, who secured it for the papacy and made it an important town in the Papal States. Apart from the brief period under Napoleon, the papal rule continued unbroken until Spoleto joined the new Italian State.

Day 6
After breakfast at 08:00, you’ll meet the staff at the Casale Fusco lobby. Your fifth bike path will start: round trip Spoleto – Marmore Falls. The distance is about 60 kilometers, difficulty easy, road surface asphalt, gravel road. Packed lunches are individually prepared for bikers.
Marmore Falls is a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans. Its total height is 165 meters (541 feet), making it the second tallest man-made waterfall in the world. Of its three sections, the top one is the tallest, at 83 meters (272 feet). It is located 7.7 kilometers from Terni, a provincial capital of the Italian region of Umbria.
Its source is a portion of the waters of the river Velino (the rest of the river flows into a hydroelectric power plant), after flowing through Piediluco lake near the community of Marmore. It pours into the valley below formed by the river Nera. Its flow is turned on and off according to a published schedule, to satisfy the needs of tourists and the power company alike. Tourists try to be there the moment the gates are opened to see the powerful rush of water.

Day 7
After breakfast at 08:00, you’ll meet the staff at the Casale Fusco lobby. Your sixth bike path will start: round trip Spoleto – Narni, the distance is about 90 kilometers, difficulty easy, road surface asphalt, gravel road. Packed lunches are individually prepared for bikers.
Narni, as the ancient Umbrian town called Nequinum, was conquered by the Romans in 299 BC and made, first of all, a colony and then an important municipium with the name Narnia. Attacked and destroyed by Totila, King of the Ostrogoths, Narni was then for a brief period made part of the Duchy of Spoleto by the Longobards. Subsequently, it became part of the Duchy of Rome belonging to the Countess Matilde di Canossa and passed to the Church.
After the turbulence of the early Middle Ages Narni experienced a period of power and richness in the 11th century until Frederick Barbarossa in 1174 imposed his dominion. In the following years, the town continually battled against Fredrick II and the Duchy of Spoleto.
In the 14th century, it was included in the dominion of the Catholic Church by Cardinal Albornoz. After occupation by Ladislas, King of Naples, it was regained by the Church and in 1572 was defeated and destroyed by Charles V. Political instability continued till the 17th century when it became part of the Papal States and remained under the Church's dominion, except for the brief Napoleonic period, until 1860.

Day 8
You will have breakfast at Casale Fusco, final farewells, and depart for your transfer to the airport.

The restaurant of the hotel is composed of two rooms, one light room with panoramic windows and one rustic room. In summer, you can have dinner on the terrace.

On starting from Spoleto railway station (with the building on your back) go straight for 200 meters, turn right, then go straight along Viale Marconi for about three kilometers. Immediately after crossing a small bridge (Ponte Bari), turn left in Morgnano direction. The road winds for about five kilometers then you will climb over a hill with a junction. Next, turn left in “S. Martino T” direction. After one kilometer, you will find Casale Fusco on the top of a hill on your right-hand side.
