Traditional Ayahuasca Retreat in Ecuador

Arutam Ruymán and his team, after a long history of receiving privately his students from all over the world at their spiritual retreat center “Cumbres de Arutam”, located in the heart of the Amazon, in Ecuador, are pleased to inform that its doors have been opened for the general public that may be interested in the forms and traditional practices of Amazonian Shamanism.

The houses and ceremonial spaces of the center are surrounded by the mountains, rivers, and waterfalls of the Sangay National Park, in a total area of 600 hectares. Program

Ruymán has been family with the members of the “Shuar” lineage and an important part of their culture for twenty years, dedicating himself to teaching it throughout the world. He has received the recognition of the elders, masters, and institutions devoted to this knowledge throughout the country. He currently chairs the European Foundation “Esmerald Horizon”, especially concerned with the preservation and dissemination of native traditions. He has numerous written and audiovisual works to spread this knowledge to the general public. This long-life experience is key to achieving the best possible retreat in a safe environment.

For this new project, whose objective is to bring ancestral Shamanism to a new and not necessarily experienced public, Ruymán has a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists and experts in the practices of this tradition.

The retreats consist not only of ceremonies and practical sessions with the use of sacred plants, such as Ayahuasca and Tobacco, but also a teaching time and a moment to share, and thus experience the feelings and knowledge of ancient peoples.

One-week retreat

The most recommended way for people looking for a basic knowledge of initiation. It consists of three or four ceremonies with Natem (Ayahuasca). It also involves, at least once, the initiation to the Andean cactus of San Pedro.

There are also constant teachings, meditations, and disciplined practices that involve, as well, the use of Amazonian Tobacco. Each ceremony usually has a ritualistic duration of about eight hours (the time of the trance's procedure, depending on the capacity of each individual as well as their personal effort), almost until the afternoon of the following day.

Focused on the teachings, immersed in the jungle, walking the path under the auspices of Arutam Ruymán, the guests spend almost all their time of the retreat in a trance state, learning to take care of the sacred touch of Life. For this reason, this is not only a center that offers a simple retreat for tourists with accommodation, food, new social relations, or a new cool experience.

You must be interested in walking on a deep ancestral path, where you will learn to live and feel like the ancient natives of the Amazon, under the careful guidance of a true Shaman. For this reason, before making a decision on how to participate, you should at least read the blog on Cumbres de Arutam website, pay special attention to the films on the channels, and be duly informed about the commitment and seriousness implicit in this form of traditional practice.

If someone who was planning to stay a week wishes, after the first week, to stay for the second week of the retreat, this is possible but only if places are available.

You can browse online to learn more about Arutam Ruymán's deep and extensive work such as articles about Shamanism and media material in his YouTube channel.
