Join Hearts Alive for a transformative winter retreat to reflect on the past year, identify and shed old layers, and set powerful intentions for the new year amidst the natural splendor of coastal Marin County. Across this immersive experience, you will authentically connect with other women, enjoy nourishing vegetarian meals, and engage in activities like mindfulness, journaling, circle discussions, forest bathing, yoga, and experiential dance - all designed to support you in achieving embodied presence, clarity on what you wish to call into your life and what you are ready to let go of.
For this retreat, there are two accommodations available.
The Lindisfarne Guest House is a distinctive octagonal building with twelve rooms on two floors surrounding a 30-foot skylit atrium. The atrium provides a relaxing skylit sitting area where guests often gather to read or sit with a cup of tea by the fire.
The building is constructed in a traditional Japanese style and heated with a central wood-burning stove and passive solar system. The guest rooms are simply yet comfortably furnished, with large windows opening onto landscaped grounds.
Each pair of rooms shares a bathroom and there is a centrally located shower. A sauna with an additional set of showers is available in a separate building. The guest house kitchen offers freshly baked breads and jams, as well as seasonal fruit, coffee, and tea.
The eight small rooms can accommodate double occupancy if needed however the large Lindisfarne rooms, Wheelwright rooms (with king or queen beds) and the Stillwater Hall rooms are better suited for double occupancy.
As you traverse the end of winter and approach Spring Equinox in the transformative Year of the Snake, join Hearts Alive for a unique and memorable opportunity to reflect on the past year, shed old layers, and set powerful intentions for what you wish to manifest in the new year. Imagine four days to yourself to reflect deeply on the previous year, discover, renew, and connect with other women.

The agenda details will continue to be refined leading up to the retreat date however this rough overview will offer a sense of what to expect. Important: while participating in all activities is highly encouraged, consider the scheduled activities more of an invitation than a requirement.
At mealtimes, you will gather in the dining hall at Green Gulch. For the nature immersion experience, you will gather outdoors unless the weather is abysmal. For circle discussions, yoga, retreat-group meditation (outside Green Gulch's daily meditation offerings), the fire-letting-go ceremony, and the dance experience, you will gather inside a 30' diameter yurt heated by a wood-burning stove.
You are highly encouraged to participate in all the activities however if other activities better align with your needs at the time, you will be celebrated for heeding your inner wisdom and doing what is right for you.
Zero experience is required. Any yoga asana (poses) classes that are led will be all-levels and include modifications and variations to meet most people's needs.
This movement session led by Sylvie Minot of Syzygy Dance Project will use dance and music to support you in reconnecting to your body in a safe way and expressing yourself while releasing what you no longer need.
You will find ways to embody what you want to create in your lives and express in the world, reconnecting to the things that bring you joy and make you smile. The dance will integrate mind, body, and spirit to support your health and well-being while having fun! No dancing experience is required and simply observing is okay too!
Using movement, ceremony, and drumming, you will integrate what you worked with in the afternoon embodied release movement portion in manifesting your desire (intention/goal). You will then have a fire ritual to release the things you no longer need. Ritual and ceremony is a very important aspect of healing in these times. They allow you to witness and be witnessed and support each other in community and spirit. Manifesting your vision together strengthens each other and the world around you.

Suzanna has practiced yoga asana on and off since a teenager, however, she really leaned into it during the pandemic when she discovered a more regular practice equated to greater peace of mind and a sense of resilience to life's up and downs. She enrolled in a 200-hour Hatha yoga teacher training to hold herself accountable for deepening her practice, satiating a growing hunger for more yogic knowledge, and learning how to share this deeply supportive practice with others safely. Her first-level training was transformative, to say the least and ignited a deeper and more fulfilling connection.

Green Dragon Temple/Green Gulch Farm (Soryu-ji) is a Buddhist practice center in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition, offering training in Zen meditation, philosophy, and work. The mission of Green Gulch is to awaken the bodhisattva spirit - the spirit of kindness and realistic helpfulness as a living enactment of Buddha's Way. Green Gulch offers sittings, practice periods, other Zen practice events, Sunday Dharma talks (in-person and through the Online Zendo) and workshops.
Green Gulch Farm is located on 115 acres seventeen miles north of San Francisco. It was purchased in the spring of 1972 from rancher George Wheelwright, with an agreement that it would always remain open to the public and engage in agricultural awareness. The land is an inholding of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and has much wildlife within its borders.
Green Gulch has become recognized as a place where organic farmers can come to learn the tools of their trade. One of the original architects of the gardens at Green Gulch was the renowned late horticulturist Alan Chadwick, who introduced biodynamic farming techniques; Chadwick's grave is marked by a stupa on site.
Green Gulch operates a 7 to 8-acre organic vegetable farm and a 1 to 1.5-acre fruit, herb and flower garden. The vegetable farm sustains the community living at Green Gulch and also sells its produce at various local farmers markets, whole foods stores, and to Greens Restaurant in San Francisco. Partnering with the National Park Service and other local groups, residents and staff at Green Gulch work to restore nearby Muir Beach and the surrounding wetlands to their original habitat.
During this retreat, you will be served daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Meals are vegetarian, served buffet style, and may include dairy and eggs. Vegan and gluten-free options are generally available. If there are participants in the retreat with food allergies, alternatives may be arranged with advance notice and Green Gulch will try to accommodate requests as best they can. The kitchen is not available for private cooking. Please remember that Green Gulch is a small monastic community and has limited capacity to accommodate strict dietary requests.
