Inner Heart Holistic Institute offers single room and twin-shared accommodation for the students undergoing training courses as well as yoga retreats at their institution. The accommodation is in the same area as the classrooms / Yoga Hall. The Sound Healing Room is 1 min walk. The ocean and restaurant (where you take your meals every day) is only 1 min away! The accommodation has Wi-Fi and kitchen facilities.

The school housing premises are moderate, designed to meet the basic requirements of a spiritual aspirant. They contain rooms with light, windows, window nets and fans. The rooms are clean, airy and simple. All rooms have attached bathrooms.

Sound

Sound is one of the most profound methods of healing since ancient times. It is a waveform which moves through and penetrates matter therefore it is not just what one can hear. Sound, in fact, causes cells and tissues to vibrate and change their energetic frequency. This is why sound has the potential to alter every dimension of one's being.

Sound therapy

Sound therapy is a healing modality which induces a deep state of relaxation and helps reduce levels of stress, anxiety, insomnia, inability to focus, to let go, and many emotional issues. It has also been reported to help reduce mood swings, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, reduce risk of coronary issues as well as help in the process of pain management. Sound therapies can also be used as a tool to deepen the quality one’s spiritual practices as well as unleash the ability for self-healing.

The treatments often produce a release of energy blockages as well as mental and muscle tension. As treatment varies from person to person, some of the instruments used on a discerning basis are:

Course objectives

  • To give the therapist the tools to be able to conduct individual sound healing sessions.
  • To introduce the concepts of sound, frequency, resonance, dissonance, melody and harmony.
  • To provide the tools to prepare the therapist, patient and room before and after a session.
  • To provide the therapist or a group of therapists the tools to be able to conduct a group sound healing session.

How does a session work?

Prior to a short interview the receiver lies on the back of a soft surface (massage table or on the floor). Instruments are located in specific areas around the body. Instruments are played so that the recipient experiences a richness of sound in its full spectrum resonating and penetrating every cell of the body, the natural vibration of the human being is tapped and a state of intensified awareness brings about a state of emotional-mental-physical well being whilst removing blockages and traumas in the whole system. It leaves the patient with an imprint of harmony and relaxation. The instruments can be played during a 15, 30, 45 or even 60 minute session according to the person’s individual needs.

Arrival: Day 1

  • Check in from 15:00 onwards

  • 17:30 - 18:15 Orientation and welcome
  • 18:15 - 18:45 Sunset meditation

Sound healing schedule for days 2-5

  • 7:30 - 9:30 Yoga practice (Yin, Restorative and gentle Vinyasa)
  • 9:30 - 11:00 Breakfast break at Blue Water
  • 11:00 - 11:30 Self practice, listening to the inner sound, intention, setting up for the practice.
  • 11:30 - 13:45 Sound healing theory and practice*
  • 13:30 - 14:30 Lunch at Blue Water

Varkala, India

Varkala has a history of 2,000 years and a powerful field of energy helpful for yoga, healing and meditation.

Varkala's cliffs are adjacent to the Arabian Sea and show a unique geological feature declared as a Geological Monument by the Geological Survey of India. There are numerous water spouts and spas on the sides of these cliffs.

Varkala is also famous for the 2,000-year old Janardana Swami Temple which is an important Shrine often referred to as Dakshin Kashi (Benares of the South). The temple is located close to the Papanasam beach, which is considered to have holy waters which wash away sins.

The main attraction of Varkala is the beautiful beaches where you can walk, swim or surf. If you like amazing sunsets, Varkala Beach is for you!

The Inner Heart Boutique (about 15 min walk from the studio) is a lovely place where you can find yoga supplies (books, yoga mats, clothes, etc) and supermarkets. Vegetable and fruit stores are situated within 10 min from the accommodation. The accommodation is less than 1 min walk to the ocean shore, and no less than 3-4 min to take a swim in the beach.

Verpflegung

You will be provided with breakfasts and lunches. The menus will randomly rotate among those listed below.

Breakfast

At 8:30 - 10:00 am

  • Porridge (banana, mixed fruit or cinnamon raisin), tea or coffee, and fresh fruit cup.
  • 2 eggs of choice, toast with butter and jam, fresh juice, corn flakes, tea or coffee.
  • Pancake (banana or chocolate), fresh fruit cup, tea or coffee.
  • Poori (fried) or roti (cooked) with green peas and potato masala, chutney (coconut or tomato), fresh fruit cup, tea or coffee.
  • Fruit bowl, fruit juice, toast butter and jam, tea or coffee.

Lunch

At 1:30 - 2:30 pm

  • Assorted cooked veggies (mix veg curry, Aloo Palak, eggplant masala, Kadai veg, Aloo Gobi).
  • Variety of pulses or lentils (Dhal Palak, Dhal Fry or Dhal Makhani, chickpea masala, Rajma masala).
  • Salad/Raita (cucumber, onion/tomato, carrot).
  • Quinoa or rice (types of rice: plain rice, Jeera rice, veg fried rice, plain quinoa, veg quinoa).
  • Assorted veg salad (mix of carrots, beetroot, cucumber, tomato, onion, cabbage, etc).
  • Assorted juice (carrot, lemon mint, watermelon).

If you would like to cook on your own, a fully equipped kitchen is available.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum - TRV), the nearest airport. It is about a 90-minute drive. You can either book a taxi with Inner Heart Yoga and Holistic Institute or take a pre-paid taxi from the airport.

The second nearest airport is Kochi (COK) which is 5 to 5 1/2 hours drive (fees vary depending on traffic, day and time of the day).

Arrival by train

You can also take the train to Varkala Sivagiri train station and from there take a rickshaw to the studio. It takes about 15 minutes.
