Basti is a herbal enema specially prepared to pull toxins out of the colon. This is the final stage of each daily Panchakarma treatment. The freshly loosened impurities from each day of treatment are flushed out of the body via the effects of the Basti. The Basti also transports Ayurvedic medicines into the blood and tissues in order to transform the memory of damaged and toxic cells. It is considered one of the most important and powerful aspects of the Panchakarma treatment.
Basti can give benefits to cure hemiplegia, paraplegia, colitis, convalescence, cervical spondylosis, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, digestive disorders, backache, sciatica, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, obesity, piles, sexual debility, and infertility.
Panchakarma is a therapy that can be done regularly (quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly) to rid the body of toxins and provides protection from all kinds of diseases. As such, Panchakarma is ideal not only for people with health problems but also for the healthy since it helps in cleansing and rejuvenation. It works on all levels of the human energy system that includes the mind, body and emotions.
Panchakarma helps in the purification and rejuvenation of the body and mind. It does so by restoring the balance of doshas and elimination of toxins. The therapy should be followed by a proper diet and lifestyle so that the positive changes triggered by Panchakarma are maintained and noticeable results can be seen. Though Panchakarma may provide quick relief in relaxing and rejuvenating a healthy individual, in people with ailments it may take some time to show effects.
By Panchakarma treatment, more than 50–60% of Ayurvedic treatment gets completed. But to treat diseases completely, Ayurvedic medicines will be required for a specific amount of time.
After undergoing Panchakarma treatment, there is a set of diet and lifestyle rules to be followed for a period of three to seven days to enjoy the maximum benefits of Panchakarma.
