This program includes a teacher training certification course on biodevelopment (dance therapy), as well as regular classes of biodanza by Ishi, an internationally recognized teacher founder of Samma Karuna School of Awakening & Healing.
What is biodevelopment?
Biodevelopment is a platform of self-development based on acceptance that helps to harmonize body and mind by balancing emotions as well as bringing body awareness using human interactions, music, and movement.
Biodevelopment dance therapy is a unique system developed in Samma Karuna by Ishi. Intensely lived moments through music and expression are the heart of this dance therapy course. Every session has a profound capacity to transform the practitioner and connect them with life.
After the deposit have been made, students will go through following steps to see if they are eligible for the retreat.

- Lastly, the one on one interview
Subjects covered:
Samma Karuna's biodevelopment dance therapy teacher training course (TTC) covers the following subjects:
- Creating a session (biodevelopment session - part one)
- Behind the scene (biodevelopment - part two)
- Musical being (biodevelopment music)
- Choice and role of music in therapy music (semantics of music)
- Structure of a course (weekly sessions and workshops)
- The group and facilitator’s role (working with groups)
- Diagnosis tools (evaluation criteria of development in biodevelopment)
- Ready to go (official list of exercises, music, and instructions)
The festival
Participants will also enjoy regular classes of biodanza with Ishi. Biodanza is a system of personal transformation using music and dance. The very nature of this system makes it difficult to grasp cognitively. Biodanza needs to be experienced and lived. It is in this living that you can embrace its full meaning.
Biodevelopment teacher training
Inspired by biodanza developed by Ishi, biodevelopment emphasizes healing and self-development as fundamental pillars of the system.
It also provides the facilitator a clear, structured, and comprehensible theory of how to create a class, in order to facilitate a nursing environment wherein healing and self-development take place using biodevelopment techniques, movement, and music.
You will develop your understanding of:
- Theory and methodology of biodevelopment
- Your ability to demonstrate the exercises to others
- Your choice of music and understanding of how music impacts a group process
- Your design of a class on the correct gradient and sequence for participants
- Your own ability to experience healing by deep experiential exercises based on meditation, music, and movement
- Your observation and reading of the group and individual reactions to exercises or the class
- Your poetic enunciation (or introduction) of exercises with imagery, words, poetry, etc.
The application requirements for this course:
Pre-requisites to enroll in the biodevelopment teacher training course are:
- Previous experience in biodevelopment practice or other dance therapy system
- A high level of comfort while dancing and engaging in cathartic meditations
- A true commitment to learning and motivation to become a biodevelopment teacher (even if you don't have plans to teach in the near future)
Also, you must be comfortable with the respectful body contact and hugs that will be a common practice around the school. You must be able to read, speak, and comprehend English with a satisfactory degree of fluency as well.
After the booking and deposit have been made, customers need a written assessment and personal interview if they are eligible for the retreat.

- 09:20 - 10:20: Biodevelopemt theory (class structure, trance states, music, etc.)
- 10:30 - 12:30: Biodevelopment practice
- 12:30 - 15:00: Lunch break
- 15:00 - 15:20: Compassionate sharing
- 15:20 - 16:20: Biodevelopment theory (self-development structure, lines of development, etc.)

Lehrer
Ishi Thamnopoulos
Ishi is the founder and lead teacher of Samma Karuna. He has been teaching Tantra for eight years and practicing for over 12 years. He is also an experienced Vipassana meditator and creator of a number of social meditations (including Samma Karuna AUM mediation, Tree of Harmony meditation, and Shower of love mediation among others). He is a certified Taoist instructor having studied with master Mantak Chia in Tao Garden. He also has a background in dance therapy, having studied Biodanza, and the creator of BioDevelopment.
Lage
Koh Phangan is made up of white sandy beaches, tropical rainforests, many hilltops, lots of nightlife, and a wide selection of restaurants. This place has a long history of over 600 years when the first monks settled on a hilltop near Tong Sala the island and built temples.
Since then, the spiritual side of the island has grown and grown. Koh Phangan is 168 square kilometers and is located in a subtropical temperature zone.
Samma Karuna is located about four kilometers north from the commercial center of the island and where the pier is located. The school is located in Sri Thanu area about one and a half kilometers from 7-Eleven Sri Thanu and around nine kilometers from Tong Sala.

Arrival by airplane
Please book your flight to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). From there, you may fly to Samui Airport (USM). Between Bangkok and Koh Samui, there are many daily services run by Bangkok Airways. Flying time will take about 50 minutes. You will need a connecting ferry to take you from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan.
From Bangkok, you can also fly first to Surat Thani Airport (URT). Air Asia flies from Bangkok to Surat Thani daily, and the flying time is about 50 minutes. The transfer from Surat Thani Airport (URT) to Donsak ferry port is by coach or taxi, which takes about one hour and 30 minutes.
At Donsak, you will transfer to the Raja ferry to Koh Phangan, which takes three hours. Whilst the overall journey is longer than flying directly to Koh Samui, it can be cheaper to fly via Surat Thani, depending on the time of year.
Arrival by bus
There are many bus services from Bangkok to Koh Phangan. Most of these are sleeper buses. They can be booked from travel agencies in Bangkok or by going to the central bus station (Sia Thai). The journey takes about ten hours to Donsak, where there are ferry port for boats going to Koh Phangan. From Donsak, the journey will take around three hours to Koh Phangan. Usually, the ferry is included in the price of the bus.
Arrival by ferry
There are ferries from Samui to Koh Phangan. The Seatran ferry leaves Koh Samui at 08:00 and 13:00. The Lomprayah ferry leaves Koh Samui at 08:00, 11:15, 12:30, and 17:00. The Seatran pier is located near the airport, approximately a ten-minute drive away, while the Lompraya pier is located 50 minutes from the airport.
Please take this into consideration when booking the rest of your journey. Ferries arrive in Koh Phangan at Thong Sala pier.
For returning back, the Seatran ferry leaves Koh Phangan at 11:00 and 16:00. The Lomprayah ferry leaves Koh Phangan at 07:15, 11:00, 12:00, and 16:20.
From Koh Samui airport, there is a shuttle service going to the ferry ports for Koh Phangan. This is usually available as a free service. Please ask for this service when you purchase the ticket for the ferry in the Seatran / Lompraya ferry counter as you exit Koh Samui airport.
Arrival by train
Trains leave Bangkok several times daily, and the journey time to Surat Thani is about 12 hours. Sleeping booths are available for some services. Leaving the train at Surat Thani, the transfer by coach or taxi from Surat Thani station to Donsak pier will take about one hour. From Donsak, the ferry journey will take three hours to Koh Phangan.
Arrival by coach
There are two companies that run luxury coach services from Bangkok to Chumphon, which takes about six hours. At Chumphon, you will transfer to a large express boat that stops at Koh Tao before arriving at Koh Phangan. The boat journey from Chumphon to Koh Phangan takes about three hours.
Arrival by taxi
Local taxis are available from the pier. Please inform the taxi to go to Samma Karuna Srithanu. Please print out instructions in Thai to give to the taxi driver, as this will avoid any unnecessary delay and frustration. Taxis are approximately 200 to 300 THB per person.
