Meditation, Qigong, and Tai Chi are all ancient Chinese exercises and healing techniques that involve mindfulness, controlled breathing, and movement exercises. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion.
At the center, you will focus on training and mindfulness during the week, and you can leave during the weekend you to relax, regenerate, and explore the local attractions, culture, and nature. Your stay at the center will allow you to truly share the culture of Tai chi, as well as give you more time to explore the theory with other students and get into more in-depth discussions with masters on all aspects of Tai chi and life.
Fang (方) is the square. It represents the balance and stability of Yang. Yuan (圆) is the circle. It represents the continuous movement and flexibility of Yin. FangYuan (方圆)is the basic principle of Tai chi. Whether you are still or moving, your body is rounded, soft, and relaxed, yet at the same time, it is well-balanced and stable. Fang is the framework of rules that without which, no human life is possible. Yuan is the harmony and wisdom that without which, rules are too restrictive.
Fang (square) is the requirement of the Tai chi movement to achieve a balance between body and orientation, while Yuan (circle) is the requirement of Tai chi movement to achieve softness, relaxation, and harmony - the body flowing like water. FangYuan is rich in connotations and is full of color. As an embodiment of traditional Chinese philosophy, the word "FangYuan" contains a wealth of meaning.
It is also the attitude of a person. It is not only to strengthen the body, but it is more of a spiritual path that today's people want to pursue so that every practitioner's mind seeks balance, health, family happiness, social stability, and world peace. This is the core of Tai chi - harmony. When Fang and Yuan are in balance and harmony, the mind and body can maintain life in peace.
Qi gong is an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique that involves meditation, controlled breathing, and movements that can improve one’s health, relieve stress, and increase energy. Qi refers to the life force or vital energy, which is the energy that gives power to the mind, body, and spirit. Gong refers to work or gathering of qi.
In essence, Tai Chi can be seen as a dynamic form of Qigong, where the flowing movements become a meditation in motion.
If you enjoy flowing, graceful movements and seek stress reduction, mental clarity, improved balance, flexibility, and coordination, or are interested in the martial arts aspect, Tai Chi might be the perfect fit for you. However, both Tai Chi and Qigong offer profound benefits for mind, body, and spirit. We encourage you to explore both practices at FangYuan TaiChi Centre and discover the path that resonates most deeply with you.
Unnecessary tension is released from the joints and muscles, making them more flexible and elastic. It also makes use of specific relaxed abdominal breathing, mental imagery, and awareness of the inside of your body. A more difficult variation is standing-on-one-leg meditation, which is also practiced at the center.
A typical day at the center begins with an optional morning meditation. During winter months, this becomes a sunrise meditation, focusing on breathing to bring calmness and energy for the day ahead. They offer two two-hour training sessions daily - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Classes start with stretching exercises, followed by Qigong and Tai Chi practices one tailored to each student's level, needs, and aspirations. You will also have plenty of opportunities to learn and practice alongside other students staying at the center.
Classes run from Monday to Friday and include sunrise mindfulness, a body warm-up and flexibility training, Qigong movements, meditation, and Tai Chi.
Students are welcome to use the facilities for exercise and self-practice outside of class times. In the evening, enjoy free time for relaxing, chatting, reading, and taking part in planned immersive activities that deepen your understanding of Chinese culture.
