Program

"Only when all forms of Janani, Mother Earth, are respected and loved, will there be peace in people's lives and on earth."

(Sw.Niranjanananda Saraswati Bihar School of Yoga)

Francesca chose Assisi to spend the beautiful days of August with you all. It's a place and land that she has loved since she was little and that calls her home whenever her soul cannot find peace. Maybe it is the same for you. She will wait for you there to offer you days of peace and serenity that can calm your heart and mind.

It is recommended that you book before June 30 as the spaces are limited.

About the retreat

This will be a residential week to study and deepen the various aspects of yoga not only as a practice but as a Sadhana and lifestyle to live yoga. Central to the teachings of Satyananda yoga is the concept of the yogic lifestyle. Yoga is not just a practice to be performed, it is a lifestyle, a way in which life can be lived with awareness, understanding, positive goals, and appropriate and creative actions.

When yoga becomes part of life then it becomes universal and dynamic. This leads to the development of a balanced personality and harmony of body, mind, and spirit and will transform into wisdom. Contrary to popular belief, yoga is not limited to just a set of practices but at the base are Vidya and Gyana the profound wisdom.

The program will end with the concert of spiritual music inspired by Indian classical ragas with the master Fabio Roccagli Nirmalam and the ancient Vedic prayer offered to the fire.

What does it mean?

Sadhana

The lifestyle of the ecology of Yoga is a Sadhana. In Sanskrit Sadhana means spiritual effort, not physical or mental effort. It is the effort made to open the doors beyond which there is Enlightenment. The term "sadhana" encompasses all those techniques which are deliberately adopted to remove the imperfections of the personality.

Sadhana is the effort made to identify with the joy and sadness of each one, to expand horizons and rise above the pettiness of life; this should be the purpose of sadhana. Sadhana is a highly developed science of evolution and is practiced for one's own evolution. Therefore sadhana is not the end but the means. (Swami Satyananda Saraswati)

Aradhana

It means adoration, invocation, and realization of the higher nature that is within everything. This prolonged experience of joy satisfies chin and happiness is the beginning of spiritual awareness. (Swami Niranjanananda)

Ashwattha Aradhana helps to rebuild the broken relationship with nature, through the relationship of love towards Mother Earth.

Ashwattha means "eternal" and is the oldest known cult tree. Aradhana means "to worship". When you perform ashwattha Aradhana for a tree or plant, you worship the ancient immortal spirit of the sacred ashwattha tree and the eternal spirit of prithvi.

Jyoti the flame represents the atman (soul) and its awakening not only in ourselves but also in the tree.

Yajna, Havan and Agnihotra

They are three forms of the ancient Vedic ritual of the prayer to the fire through the offering of the sacred mantras and personal devotion. Through the Fire Prayer, people align themselves and their environment with the positive energies of creation, which are generative, sustaining, and transforming energies. It is the first step towards environmental and mental stability.

In the twentieth century, Satyananda announced that yoga would be the culture of tomorrow. Tomorrow is today and what is needed most now is yoga which reconnects you to the Divine through nature, the ecology of yoga.

The earth will survive even after your death but if you want to preserve clean air and water, intact forests, oceans, rivers, and deserts you must adopt yoga not only for your well-being but also for the well-being of the spirit of the Earth. This is the "new path of yoga" towards the future.
