This terrific escapade takes you into astonishment at every turn—the sights and pulse of Marrakech, where divine food, booze, and times are always at your fingertips. Fusion, Master, and traditional cooking classes, favorite restaurants, shopping for hearts' desires, staying in sumptuousness, and just when you think there couldn't be more amazing, there is!
The six-night road trip begins with a picnic morning tea beside saltpans, which you will scoop to take home. Up and over a mountain road, you continue to be pretty much the only car on the road. You will have laps full of lollies and pens to give to the kids you pass as you look for a spot to stop for a picnic lunch. The drive into the oasis is beyond breathtaking, and our accommodation is luxurious in its setting rather than its rooms. However, all rooms are en suite. You will dine terrace-top and swill wine.
A day in the "Babel Village" (DO watch the movie before you come) follows. You will stroll an ancient ksour complete with its hidden mosque, give Omo to the ladies in the open laundry, and lollies to the kids, and some provisions to the school. Then it's lunch with a family, and if you're lucky, some of the village ladies will bring their carpets fresh from their looms.
The next day it's off to the kasbah with a terrace-top lunch there and a walk beside the river in the afternoon. The next morning is gorge picnic day, a hidden gorge with the most breathtaking drive to it. Lots of times to stop and walk along the road before the best walk of the day—into the gorge with no one around.
Then next morning, you leave for the desert through more spectacular scenery, lunch and dinner and wine in the desert in a gorgeous auberge upon the sands. The next morning you drive to the end of the road with Algeria just over the mountains, to cook with a desert family, the food of this region. Late afternoon it's on to your camel for a sunset ride to your luxurious en-suite camp and dinner with wine.
The next day, to Fes with lunch along the way. You will stay in a lovely Fes riad for two nights, have a bread-making class, and stroll the hills of the medina with dinner at two favorite spots! Time to head for Chefchaouen for the night, stopping at Volubilis to walk the ancient Roman ruins on a breathtaking site atop a hill. You will detour to Moulay Idriss for lunch, the holiest place in Morocco, before finishing the drive to Spanish-influenced Chefchaouen to stay in charming accommodations and dine.
What a divine morning you will have walking the cobbled streets of this blue-washed village, not resisting for a second the art and more for sale. You will lunch in Chefchaouen and then drive mid-afternoon to Tangier for two nights staying in gorgeous accommodations and extending the fabulous with dinner in a speakeasy-feeling club. The next day, it's visiting the kasbah lunch at Cap Spartel, and dinner by the sea.
In the morning, you will drive to lunch in charming Assilah, another Portuguese-settled port, for lunch. Then it's on to Rabat to stay in wonderful accommodation in the medina and dine beside the ancient medina wall. You are Marrakech-bound the next morning with lunch along the way. Dinner terrace-top nearby, booze extra. The last Marrakech day awaits with one last dive into the souks, lunch at a terrace-top beauty at Avenue M, then to the glory are Anima Gardens, the brainchild of Andre Heller, and farewell dinner in Gueliz dining Bistronomic. Next day farewells and off to the airport.
