Day 1: Hanoi to Mai Chau (170 kilometers / 106 miles)
This Hanoi motorbike tour to Mai Chau Valley starts at around 8:30 a.m. Ride your motorbike to the northwest of Hanoi. After one hour of riding, you will be in a mountain area and the motorcycle tour to Mai Chau becomes very enjoyable. The ride is almost on the small countryside roads along the Da River through rice fields and farming villages. After lunch in Hoa Binh, you will ride through plenty of limestone mountains between the rustic village of the Muong and the Thai people.
Especially after lunch in Hoa Binh, you will have a great ride along the Da river lake. The winding road along the rider offers a stunning view of lime stone mountain and the green water lake. Arrive at Mai Chau Valley at around 5 p.m. Overnight at a homestay in the village.

Day 2: Mai Chau Offroad to Ta Xua Peak (180 kilometers / 112 miles)
Breakfast at 8:00 am. It is an easy and relaxing riding day so after breakfast, you can take it easy with a short walk around the village to learn more about the interesting daily life of the Thai people. After saying goodbye to the hosts, you continue this motorcycle tour by getting out of the valley by riding up and up to higher lands, you will see more villages of the Mong people.
Once you get close to Moc Chau plateau, you’ll make a turn to a small quiet road named Hua Tat Pass, which is an old French-built road with a great view of mountain so you can surely have a great motorcycle ride. After lunch in Moc Chau, you will motorbike all the way down to the Da River Lake to cross the river lake to Phu Yen. Before getting to Phu Yen town, you will have a beautiful ride along the Da River this could be the highlight of this Northwest Vietnam motorbike tour.
From Phu Yen, you’ll keep following the weaving road QL37 to ride up to a famous destination known as Ta Xua Peak or the “dinosaur backbone”. Ta Xua is a mountain range in the Bac Yen district in Son La province. At its highest point of 2865 meters, the Ta Xua Peak is the tenth highest peak in Vietnam. The three most important peaks form a line that looks like the backbone of a dinosaur. It is a real off-the-beaten-track destination for adventure travelers.
If time permits, you also try some dirt-track experiences to get deeper into remote villages around to see how the locals live and work otherwise it’s your time for beer, and relaxation amid this remote and pristine nature’s playground amid the clouds. Overnight in a house-on-stilts of the H’Mong people (homestay in the village).

Day 3: Ta Xua to Nghia Lo Via Tram Tau (150 kilometers / 93 miles)
This morning, you’ll keep exploring the beauties of this amazing land with some dirt tracks to get deeper inside the villages before leaving for Tram Tau of Yen Bai province on a newly-opened shortcut by your iron horses.
Tram Tau is home to 11 groups of people of which the Hmong account for 77%, the Thai 16%, and the others are Kinh, Khmu, Tay, and Muong. The terrain of Tram Tau is dissected by high mountains and deep ravines become hot destinations for adventure motorbike riders. The average altitude is 800 meters above sea level, and the lowest altitude is 390 meters above sea level. The temperatures in Tram Tau are below 30 degrees Celsius almost all year round and it may get below freezing point in the winter.
Upon reaching Tram Tau, you’ll challenge yourself with some dirt tracks to explore some stunning nearby villages with great rice terraces otherwise you can relax with a top-notch service of hot spring here (your own account) before riding to Nghia Lo for an overnight. Arrive at Nghia Lo at 17:30 p.m. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Nghia Lo to Hanoi (220 kilometers / 137 miles)
Nghia Lo is located on Highway 32 and away from Hanoi about 200 kilometers. Muong Lo is the second-largest rice terrace in the Northwest of Vietnam with the famous water rice and Muong Lo–Nghia Lo is the cradle of Thai people who are famous for their unique culture and food.
This morning, you’ll be at leisure for a bit before riding back to Hanoi. En route, you’ll stop by some very nice places / great spots to defy yourself with some dirt tracks to discover the beauties of Muong Lo Valley with tea plantations/terraces and villages. Finally, you will be back to the hotel before rush hours in order to end this amazing Vietnam motorbike tour in the north safely.
