When the sun shines around the clock life vibrates in the north: the 1000s of birds revive the coasts, the vegetation is in full bloom and the sun warms the land. On hikes, we discover the diversity of Icelandic nature and sense her power during our yoga sessions.
During this retreat, you will stay in private or shared accommodations. Inspiration Iceland offers five bright and spacious apartments in the charming town of Akureyri. The apartments have private terraces and share jacuzzis between them. Some have views of the fjord.
You will stay for 5 nights in shared double or single room with extra charge, in modern and charming apartments, within walking distance to the most beautiful corners of the small town Akureyri. The apartments have their own outdoor hot tub in the garden.
This lifestyle apartment combines Icelandic architecture of the forties with a completely refurbished house in which all details have been thought of with great care. The apartment sleeps up to six persons and has a jacuzzi for your use.

The daily yoga units will take 2 to 3 hours and take place outdoors in nature. In case of bad weather, there are also indoor opportunities every day.
Depending on your arrival, you can relax in the accommodation or perhaps enjoy a first visit in the swimming pool of Akureyri, with its three different "heitir pottur" or hot pots, and a steam bath. In the evening, you’re invited to take a short city tour to show you your home for the next week. As an introduction to your time together, you will be welcomed in Iceland with dinner.
You will start the morning with a yoga sequence indoors or outdoors. In the early afternoon, you will drive along the west coast of Eyjafjörður to the north before you reach the Sævar ferry. This ferry takes you to the small island Hrísey located in the fjord. A short walk will take you to a spectacular view point. This place is considered as one of the most energetic points in Iceland and it’s a perfect location to rest and enjoy a yoga unit.
Then, you will walk across the island and marvel at the rich bird life. Back to town, you will get into a warm pool from which you will have a wonderful sight. For dinner, you will still be in Hrísey and enjoy local food. In the light of the midnight sun, the ferry will take you back to the mainland. The hike will be two hours long.
You will start the morning with a yoga sequence of one and a half hours, indoors or outdoors. At lunch, you will start your journey to one of the most exciting areas of Iceland: lake Mývatn. There, you will experience a fantastic world within an active volcanic area with hot springs, bubbling mud pools, and bright colors. Your first stop will be at Goðafoss, the waterfall of the gods.
Shortly after you reach Mývatn, you will explore the diverse landscapes on different short hikes: the green pseudo craters of Skútustaðir, the mystical lava towers of Dimmuborgir, and the colorful world of active volcanism at the Krafla volcano. On Námaskarð, you will take your yoga session on a charming and lush peninsula at the lake. Afterwards, it will be time to relax and enjoy the warm waters of the Nature Bath, the blue lagoon of the north, with views over the Lake Myvatn area.
You will go to dinner at a café on the lake with products directly from the farm, and face to face with the midnight sun, you will make your way home. The hike will be two hours long.
You will start the morning with a yoga sequence of one and a half hours indoors or outdoors. At lunch, you will drive north to the peninsula of the trolls. There, you will turn into one of the most beautiful valleys in the north: the Svarfaðadalur. You will drive far into this world of mountains before you reach the old farm Skeið at the end of the valley. Your hostess Myriam will serve you classic Icelandic dishes: grilled lamb, fish, and vegetarian food as well.
Surrounded by the mountains, you will have a yoga session to feel the calmness of this peaceful place. Then, you will walk through the idyllic valley up to a small mountain lake. You can either use the time to rest there or join another yoga session. The hike will be two and a half hours long.
You will start the morning with a yoga sequence of one and a half hours indoors or outdoors. Then, there will be some free time to explore Akureyri or simply relax before you go out of town for an inspired hike where you will enjoy stunning views over the fjord. On a scenic spot of this tour, you will do another yoga sequence. The hike will take one or two hours.

Then, you will hike to a charming little jewel in the north: on undiscovered paths you will follow the waters of the river Myrka, surrounded by the mountains of the Hörgárdalur. In countless cascades, the Myrka water flows from the mountains to the sea. The rushing waterfalls will give you the perfect setting for your yoga unit.
On the way back to Akureyri, you'll have a short stop to relax in the warm water of a charming pool before you start your journey back home at around late afternoon. The hike will take two hours.

Ulrica Seiler is a certified yoga teacher and a doctor of traditional Chinese or Oriental medicine. She received her first yoga instruction in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. Upon her return to Switzerland, she continued her yoga studies and received certification as a yoga teacher from the Swiss Yoga Association in 2001. In the following years, Ulrica continued her training in the US, India, and England and was awarded the Inspired Anusara Yoga Teacher in New York. Ulrica graduated in the five pillars: acupuncture, herbology, tuina massage, Qi Gong, and nutritional science.

It is the perfect location for exploring the north of Iceland. Akureyri in the summer means that you get the full midnight sun experience. It offers as well cultural life, lovely cafés and restaurants, and invites for relaxing walks in the botanical garden or along the fjord.
The price of this retreat includes six typical dinners with vegetarian and vegan options available. Please note that breakfast and lunch are not included. Breakfast can be prepared in the well-equipped kitchen in each apartment and for lunch, you should always have a small lunch box set since you will be on tours. Dinner is held each night at a local restaurant or café.
You can book high quality treatments like sauna sessions, massage with stones, Ayurvedic massage, classical massage, acupuncture, or a raindrop massage in the spa in your free time. Along with the treatment, you can use the whole spa area for free.

You will be flying to Keflavik International Airport, 50 kilometres from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. From there you will need to transfer to the domestic airport in Reykjavik. Inspiration Iceland will pick you up at Akureyri airport.
You can travel by bus to Akureyri either on the ring road with bus 57, or via highland. Transfer from and to the bus station is included. Inspiration Iceland will pick you up from the bus station if you arrive there.
