This cultural motorbike tour covers a little of Etruscan and Roman history, medieval burgs, Renaissance fine towns, sea-side, hills, forests, and obviously a vast choice of beautiful, twisty, and panoramic roads. Really is a fairytale journey to discover the Middle Ages charm and delights, this tours intends to offer a complete overview of Tuscany, including as many various aspects as possible gathered in such a short time. Up and down on the legendary Tuscan hills with their hundreds of shades, it is designed for your maximum fun in the saddle since this is, first of all, a motorcycle tour. During the tour, you have the options of staying in hand-picked 3-star charming hotels and various accommodations mixed of 2-star hotels and a B&B. You will stay in Florence on the first night, Carrara on the second night, Lucca on the third night, Massa Marittima on the fourth night, Pitigliano on the fifth night, Siena on the sixth night, and back to Florence on the last night.
Today is the individual arrival of all participants in Florence, one of the most beautiful cities in the world (UNESCO World Heritage Site) for the self-contained visit of which Italy on Motorbike recommends you to dedicate at least one complete day before or after the tour.
Amazing roads? Check. Fantastic landscape? Check. Exhilaration guaranteed? You bet. You leave Florence at 09:00, heading for the enchanting woods of the charming northern area of Tuscany called Garfagnana with its beautiful natural park. Visit of the delightful village of Castelnuovo. Then, you cross the Apuan Alps to reach your hotel in the area of Massa Carrara.
Today is simply packed with enjoyment and variety. You begin by exploring the famous quarries of Carrara marble, the medium of choice for the finest sculptors in history, before sampling the joys of the palate in nearby Colonnata and then heading for the coast. Your first port of call is lovely Lerici, on the edge of the Cinque Terre National Park, where you can clamber up to the castle to admire the view. From there, you continue your rambling towards the most renowned Tuscan sea resort Forte dei Marmi before heading for one of the most enchanting, romantic, and enthralling fine towns in Tuscany: Lucca (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Today is all about the grandeur of man’s contribution to the landscape. An enchanting riders’ route up and down on the Tuscan hills. First stop: Pisa, with its magnificent Renaissance testimonies. After an accurate visit of the world-famous Piazza dei Miracoli (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with the impressive Duomo (cathedral), Baptistery, and Leaning Tower, you skip back into the Middle-Ages in the enthralling little town of Massa Marittima where you will spend the night.
Here comes another enthralling day with amazing scenery and superb roads to motor along. Your first stop will be the impressive roofless remains of San Galgano Abbey and nearby Montesiepi hermitage with the sword in the stone. You wind your way around Mount Amiata southward bound for the incredible little cliff top town of Pitigliano, a living medieval relic that will be your home for the night.
You visit two of Tuscany’s finest towns, the world-famous wine center of Montepulciano and the beautiful renaissance gem that is Pienza (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The gorgeous Val d’Orcia (another UNESCO A-lister) with its rolling vine-clad hills festooned with cypresses is simply picture-perfect. To round off the day in style, you hang up your helmets in the fine UNESCO city of Siena where you cannot miss to visit the extraordinary cathedral and the famous square of the Palio horse race.
The final day of the tour, like all the others, is bursting with great art and roads to savor. This superb ride brings you to the implausibly lovely walled town of Monteriggioni and the historical charms of Volterra, a delectable medieval town, former Etruscan capital and, even before that, a Roman settlement. The archaeological remains are well worth a visit. You will then cross the amazing Elsa valley, an enchanting route on the famous rolling hills of Tuscany that brings you first in the marvelous medieval San Gimignano (UNESCO World Heritage Site) also called the town with 100 towers. After a last but not least great ride, in the late afternoon, you will be back in Florence, where you drop off the rental bikes before gaining your hotel, the same as the first night.
You are free to explore further the magic of Florence on your own. You are at your complete disposal to give you all indications and tips to enjoy your visit at best and help you planning your remaining days in Italy.
You will get a thoroughly designed daily itineraries from hotel to hotel packed with exhilarating bikers’ roads and spectacular / interesting places to see. They come in Sygic format (the most performing navigation system presently available that works on any smartphone without the Internet connection) and in GPS format.
If you choose the rental bike (BMW G650GS) package, it will come with a third liability insurance, top case, and two side panniers. You shall be in possession of a valid driver’s license for the rented vehicle (usually old type A or new type A3) and be at least 21 years old. Travelers from non-Schengen countries are usually not allowed to tour in Italy with their national driver’s license and will, therefore, need to have an International Driver’s License issued by the local authorities. Please check this out with the local Italian Consulate.
It is the traveler’s responsibility to present a valid, appropriate driver’s license to take over the rental motorcycle. If that is not fulfilled, the rented vehicle will not be handed over and they shall exclude the participant from the tour and be exempted from further contract fulfillment. In such a case, neither the rental company nor Italy On Motorbike shall refund any payment nor be liable for the additional costs hence arising for the traveler.
The prices are inclusive of a basic assistance, medical, and luggage insurance that covers both rider and passenger for all medical expenses in Italy and repatriation costs in case of accident or illness during the tour. Luggage loss or theft is covered too. Complementary coverage available on request. Will you hire the bike through Italy on Motorbike, their partners will put at your disposal a vehicle covered by third-party liability insurance. If you tour with your own motorcycle, it is your responsibility to have a valid motorcycle insurance.
Italy on Motorbike reserves the right to change the itinerary and consequently overnight accommodation venues or other services as necessary in reason of seasonal circumstances and current weather conditions. When doing that, they shall endeavor not to change the character of the tour and to provide similar services. The tours are scheduled so to be performed in the best season and most favorable weather conditions for the relevant area, yet they do not assume any responsibility for poor weather conditions (being bad or even too hot) that may occur. Participants cannot claim any right to reimbursement of the tour price or the vehicle rental fee due to bad weather and subsequent program change.
Your tour is located in Tuscany, Italy, covering at least Florence, Carrara, Lucca, Massa Marittima, Pitigliano, and Siena. A land of history and gastronomy, with its beautiful scenery of castles and fortresses, huge farms, green hills, vineyards, and cypress trees, every corner of Tuscany is a postcard picture. You will be served daily buffet breakfast along with drinking water.
