Fast and fantastic: Snowmobiling
Fly along the ice sheets and see a totally new angle of the Icelandic highlands. Snowmobiles take over when the terrain calls for fast, light, and agile vehicles. The sleds are ideal for icy and snowy conditions.
Highland Base operates scheduled guided one-hour tours, which are ideal to get to know the basics and explore the wintry hills surrounding the hotel. Take advantage of winter in the Highlands and gaze up at the winter sky, topping it all off with a warm dip in the Highland Baths.

Additional information on program:
All the activities will be guided, but not private. They will be scheduled and you can expect to be in a group with other guests. Keep in mind that the activity of the day is a short hike or sightseeing, in most cases. This is not an advanced hiking tour.
Kerlingarfjöll - Highland Base does provide all necessary equipment for the activities, but it is important that the guests are appropriately dressed for the weather conditions.
They also strongly recommend guests to book both pre- and post-nights in Reykjavík. Given the hotel's location and accessibility, they do not recommend booking flights on either check-in or check-out days.

Kerlingarfjöll is a remote mountain range deep in Iceland’s central highlands with steaming geothermal valleys, glacial rivers, perennial snow fields, and panoramic vistas.
An extreme paradise
For centuries, this primal wilderness has been the source of myths and folktales. The name itself was inspired by a 25-meter pillar of volcanic rock - the legendary geological remains of a giantess who roamed the mountains and turned to stone when she was stricken by the first rays of the rising sun.
Kerlingarfjöll holds a special place in the hearts of generations of Icelanders who visited this untouched region year after year. To move across the vivid rhyolite hills and into the towering mountainscape will be to walk in the footsteps of adventurers from across the ages.

In 2020, Kerlingarfjöll was designated a Protected Nature Reserve by Umhverfisstofnun, the environmental agency of Iceland. This classification aims to preserve and honor the geological and geothermal sanctity of Kerlingarfjöll.

Pure and natural
The water found in the Highland Baths is mineral water. It is drawn from beneath the earth, close to nearby geothermal fields, and brought to the surface in Ásgarður Valley.
The water is free from added chemicals like chlorine. The water's pH level is low and comparable to that of freshwater. It is considered beneficial for the skin, offering fewer instances of irritation or dryness compared to water with higher acidity. The water renews itself approximately every two hours.

The highland routes are not serviced during wintertime. During the winter season, from October 1 to June 14, Highland Base can only be reached with a 4x4 super jeep driven by a professional. Prepare for the ride of your life. Whether it takes three hours or six hours, the thrill is timeless.
