Day 1: Sofia (arrival)
Arrival in Sofia, Bulgaria’s biggest city and capital. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. After dinner, there will be a brief meeting to introduce the route and the applicable rules. The city was established in I c. AD. The Roman settlement of Serdika named after the Thracian tribe of Serdis, who inhabited this area, occurred there. Today, it has developed and turned into a cultural and economic center of the country.
Day 2: Sofia - Belogradchik (about 240 kilometers / 149 miles)
The adventure starts. The road passes along the ridge of the Balkan mountains (Stara Planina), including the Rocks of Belogradchik – a natural phenomenon more than 200 million years old. They cover a zone 30 km long and 6-7 km wide.
The route includes a visit to one of the most picturesque Bulgarian caves - Magura. Famous for its carvings from the Bronze Age, this cave is the only prehistoric monument of art of such kind in Southern-Eastern Europe. The cave was known and explored from the times of the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages.
Day 3: Belogradchik - Zlatibor (about 350 kilometers / 217 miles)
Say farewell to Belogradchik and set off to the first country on the route – Serbia, by visiting the ancient town of Uzice. You will stop to spend the night in the holiday city of Zlatibor.
Day 4: Zlatibor - Kolasin
In the morning, you will set off to the artificially established city of "Mećavnik“ created by Emir Kusturica, a Serbian director, actor, and musician. The city was designed as a shooting location for several movies. You will cross the border with Montenegro. The final destination of your route today will be the holiday city of Kolašin.
Day 5: Kolasin - Budva
Today, your route will be the richest, from east to west and from west to south you will ride along the picturesque canyon of Tara in Montenegro. You will visit the Đurđevića bridge, which is one of Montenegro’s attractions. Ride through Durmitor National Park and finally, you will visit the ancient monastery of Ostrog. The Orthodox pilgrims visit it as often as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The relics and bones of Saint Basil of Ostrog are in the walls of the monastery, as well as an ancient prayer book from 1732 and church chandeliers approximately from the same period. You will finish the trip in the holiday city of Budva.
Day 6: Budva
A whole day of deserved rest on the azure Adriatic seaside not far from the ancient city of Budva. Everyone who wants may opt to visit the ancient city of Budva or have a stroll along its seaside promenade. It will be difficult to leave such beauty on the next day!
Day 7: Budva - Durres (about 200 kilometers / 124 miles)
Today, you set off to Albania. The route passes along the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea. On the road, you will stop near the famous Rozafa Castle in Shkodra, after which you will have lunch and reach your today’s final destination – the holiday city of Durrës.
Day 8: Durres - Ohrid
Today, you set off to North Macedonia. You will go through Albania’s capital, Tirana, and cross two national reserves, after which you will continue along the lake to the final destination from the tour today, Ohrid. In 1980, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The maximum depth of the lake is 288 meters. In the evening, you will enjoy the beautiful nature and the sunset in the background of the lake.
Day 9: Ohrid
Spend the whole day relaxing at Lake Ohrid, near the city of Ohrid. You will have a rest enjoying the purity of the crystal-clear waters of the lake!
Day 10: Ohrid - Bitola (about 120 kilometers / 75 miles, with a visit to the monastery of St. Naum)
Today, you will ride across two national parks, Galičica, Pelister, and along two lakes – Ohrid and Prespa, will climb up Horske sedlo pass and have a panoramic view of Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa. On the way, you will visit the oldest monastery on the Balkan Peninsula – St. Naum. The monastery was established in 893-900 AD by St. Naum of Ohrid, the younger student of Cyril and Methodius, with the help of the Bulgarian rulers Boris and Simeon. You will have roughly an hour to walk around the territory of the monastery after lunch. When you arrive in Bitola, you will be accommodated in a private boutique hotel with its own winery. Before dinner, you will be able to taste the best wines from the Bitola region in the wine tasting organized specially for you.
Day 11: Bitola - Skopje (about 250 kilometers / 155 miles, with a visit to the Matka canyon)
In the morning, set off to the beautiful canyon formed by the Treska River across the nature reserve of Jasen, where you will be able to enjoy stunning views. The road crosses the mountain range of Stogovo along Kozjak Lake. Treska River, which runs through it, forms beautiful landscapes, which attract groups of tourists. The lunch is scheduled in Matka canyon – a beautiful picturesque area situated within a 30-minute ride from the capital of Skopje. There, you have a boat trip along the Treska River.
Day 12. Skopje - Bansko (260 kilometers / 162 miles)
Today you are going to Bulgaria! Having said goodbye to Macedonia. You enter the territory of Bulgaria, the final destination will be the city of Bansko. The largest ski resort in Bulgaria is located there. The city of Bansko itself is always crowded with tourists. At the end of the winter season, which lasts from December to May, the summer season begins. Then come fans of other sports such as hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering, horseback riding and much more. The Jazz Music Festival in August is the most important cultural event in the city, attracting thousands of visitors.
Day 13. Bansko - Sofia (160 kilometers / 99 miles)
On the last day of this trip, enjoy a bit off-road! You set off in the direction of Sofia, through a picturesque road along the Rila National Park and the southern slope of Rila Mountain. You will find yourself in a wonderful place with panoramic views of the three mountains - Pirin, Rila, and Rhodope. The tour ends in Sofia, where you will have a final dinner, where you can share your impressions and photos of the completed tour with KHL Mototravel!
Day 14: Departure day
Today you will catch your flight home.
