Daily itinerary
Day 1: Marangu Gate - Mandara Hut
Start the trek at Marangu Gate (1,870 meters / 6,135 feet) after registration and briefing. Hike through the lush rainforest, rich with flora and fauna. Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,720 meters / 8,923 feet) and explore the nearby Maundi Crater for stunning views.
Day 2: Mandara Hut - Horombo Hut
Continue the ascent through the rainforest, transitioning to the heath and moorland zones. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks as you trek. Reach Horombo Hut (3,720 meters / 12,205 feet) and acclimate to the higher altitude.
Day 3: Horombo Hut - Kibo Hut
Trek through the alpine desert, passing the iconic "Last Water Point." Cross the stark Saddle area between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700 meters / 15,420 feet) and rest before the early morning summit attempt.
Day 4: Kibo Hut - Uhuru Peak - Horombo Hut (summit day)
Begin the summit ascent around midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters / 19,341 feet) at sunrise. Experience the exhilaration of standing on the Roof of Africa and witnessing the breathtaking sunrise. Descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for the night.
Day 5: Horombo Hut - Marangu Gate
