Cooking Vacation in Barbados

Join Lick De Bowl Food Tours on your very own private couple / group expose to authentic Barbadian cuisine. On the first event day, your group will be taken on a four to five-hour picturesque food and history tour of Bridgetown and Speightstown for a guided introduction to delicious local eats and drink all whilst soaking in the beauty of the country as you journey from the south of the island to the north. The next day, your group will learn how to cook a Bajan favorite from scratch. Learn from a local chef all the inside secrets of preparing a traditional favorite as well as to how to mix and prepare a Bajan rum punch. You will savor and 'gram' your creation as you close on a culinary adventure you won't soon forget.

You and the members of your group will stay in and have exclusive access to modern, inviting two-bedroom 2 1/2 bathroom apartment with all new appliances and its own private courtyard garden.

It is located on the South Coast of the island just off the ABC highway, close to the Grantley Adams Airport. Airport and a short driving distance to Barbados Golf Club, Miami Beach, and Oistins.

Program

Day 1

  • Arrive at Grantley Adams Airport
  • Travel to the apartment after 4 p.m. for self-check-in. The apartment access code and google map link and full address will be provided after booking.

Day 2

  • 10:30 - 15:30 Food and history tour of Bridgetown and Speightstown. Pick up and drop off at the apartment.

Day 3

  • 11:30 - 15:00 Cook Like A Bajan cooking class. The class will be conducted on the premises, making use of a spacious courtyard.

Day 4

  • 11 a.m. checkout

Food and history tour of Bridgetown and Speightstown

Bridgetown (capital city and UNESCO Heritage site) and Speightstown are two of the oldest port towns in the island. They are also the centers for popular local eateries and rum shops.

Cook Like a Bajan cooking class

Have you wondered what it would be like to prepare and cook an authentic Bajan meal from scratch? You or your group will be given step by step guidance by a local chef on the preparation, cooking, and presentation of a Bajan favorite, Bajan style.

Average class duration is three to three and a half hours. Everything needed for the class is included. The class takes place on the premises.

During the holiday, you will take part in a food and history tour of Bridgetown and Speightstown.

Location

You will be staying in a quiet residential neighborhood situated a few minutes' drive from beaches and major attractions on the South Coast. This will be pick up and drop off for your group's food and history tour of Bridgetown and Speightstown and will be the location for your cooking class.

Food

Food and drink are provided and included in the two planned events - the food and history tour and the cooking class and will be adequate for the participants' lunch requirement on those days. The apartment will be stocked with sufficient snacks for the three-night stay.

The accommodation comes with a kitchen so guests can purchase groceries to make breakfast and or dinner. Sheraton Mall's (food court) is an eight-minute drive or guests can patronize Oistins for fish meals at nights. There are also numerous restaurants along the South Coast fora more dressed up evening / night time dining.

Please be sure to let Lick De Bowl Food Tours know if you (or anyone in your group) has dietary restrictions (e.g. vegetarian, celiac disease, food allergies, etc.) when you reserve the tour. Lick De Bowl Food Tours can advise which food stops offer vegetarian or vegan options but please note these are not in the majority. As a result, they don’t suggest either experience as a suitable activity for guests adhering to a strict vegetarian / vegan diet.

However, Lick De Bowl Food Tours would encourage you to go ahead and book if you are interested in the sightseeing and informational aspects of the tour. Please note in Barbados a vegetarian diet includes fish.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI). The apartment is a short six-minute drive or less from the airport.

It is very easy to get taxis from the airport to the location. Hiring a vehicle (can be done online for pickup at the airport) is strongly recommended to ensure you maximize your time during unscheduled hours.

Renting a vehicle to get about the island helps to enhance and maximize your experience as you are able to optimize your time during any unscheduled hours to go to the beach, join other tours, go grocery shopping and dining.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 30% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
