Reiki
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - “Rei” which means “universal spirit or the higher power” and “Ki” which means “life force energy”. Reiki (pronounced ray-kee), is classified as an alternative energy therapy and is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.
If one’s “life force energy” is low, then they are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, they are more capable of being happy and healthy. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing.
History of Reiki
A scholar and Japanese Zen Buddhist named Mikao Usui is believed to have developed Reiki in 1922. He realized that the body could not be fully healed unless the spiritual or soul of the person being treated was also addressed. By drawing a number of Asian healing methods, such as those found in Tibetan Buddhist texts, Usui formed a Reiki organization and trained others in his technique.
Typical Reiki session
A typical Reiki session can take between 30 and 90 minutes. The client is usually in a sitting or lying position and fully clothed. According to Reiki theory, energy is thought to automatically go to the parts of the body where it’s most needed. The intention on the part of the Reiki practitioner is believed to help direct the flow of energy.
The Reiki practitioner may also use hand positions around the body to ensure that no parts of the body are neglected. These hand positions are usually palmed down with the fingers and thumbs extended, and each position is held for two to five minutes. People may feel a deep sense of relaxation after a Reiki session. They sometimes report a sensation of warmth or cold, tingling, sleepiness, or refreshment.
Although it’s considered to be its own therapy, Reiki can also be combined with other complementary and alternative therapies or with conventional medical treatments.

Reiki Master Healing Course
When seeking a master-level Reiki healing course, it is important to ask exactly what you will be able to do after you finish. Will you receive the complete training and be able to initiate others into all the degrees, including full Reiki Master? Or will something be left out, requiring you to take additional sub-levels or degrees and pay additional fees? Because of the changes some have made to the system of Reiki, this is a very important question.
Becoming a Reiki Master implies that you will be able to initiate others into Reiki. When you study to become a master of Reiki healing at Marina Yoga, you will be training with this in mind. However, when taking the Master Level Reiki Healing course, you don’t necessarily have to teach in order to be a Reiki Master. As a Reiki Master, the additional Reiki healing energy, symbols, techniques, and knowledge will add value to your healing abilities. Treating yourself, giving yourself and others healing attunements, and treating others in person and at a distance will all be noticeably improved. The fact that you can pass Reiki on to friends and family is also a definite plus. Many take the Reiki Master training with just this in mind. However, if you ever decide to formally teach, you will be able to do so. As each person takes the Reiki Master training and increases their personal vibration, this adds to the vibration of the whole planet!
Is the Reiki Master Course right for you?
Becoming a Reiki Master is a serious step that must be preceded by necessary preparation. One must first take Reiki Healing I and II training. To be a Reiki Master, it is also necessary to meditate on your life purpose and decide if mastering Reiki healing is in harmony with it. Then, it is important to find a Reiki Master to study with who is competent, who you feel attuned to, and who will support you after you become a Reiki Healing Master.
True mastery of Reiki healing is a continual process of working with all aspects of one being that are out of step with Reiki energy and allowing those aspects to be healed by Reiki energy. It may seem paradoxical, but it is true that a true Reiki master is one who is always becoming a Reiki healing master. Like life itself, being a Reiki Master is a process of continual growth.
