The comfortable accommodation is in the Family Dorm, which has eight bedrooms with two beds and two rooms with bunk beds. The bathrooms are dormitory style, with sisters and brothers separate.

Ananda Kanan has a beautiful dome-shaped meditation hall encircled by flowering trees and bushes, a separate kitchen, and a dining hall with a patio so you can choose to have your meal indoors or outdoors.

Program

Meditation Steps welcomes you to a five-day meditation retreat at Ananda Kanan, Missouri! Dada Diiptimanananda and Didi Ananda Acira will lead this retreat. They are experienced yoga and meditation teachers who can help you advance spiritually and connect to your inner self.

Schedule

Arrival will be on Wednesday, July 17, at 15:00. According to your travel plan, you can also arrive earlier or later on that day. It is better if you can arrive on time or early as the group will start the programs at 16:00 with a meditation class. Departure will be on Sunday, July 21, after breakfast and the closing ceremony.

The daily schedule will include early morning chanting at 05:00, followed by meditation (with an option to sleep a bit later if needed), and then a full day of activities.

  • 07:30 - 08:30 Morning collective meditation

Included excursions

In addition to the programs at the retreat center at Ananda Kanan, participants will also go for an outing to a nearby river and enjoy mud packs, cold-plunge in the river, sing kiirtana, meditate, and have lunch in the beautiful natural environment. The group will share rides with those who came driving to the retreat. Swimming will be optional but very enjoyable.

Location

The retreat venue, Ananda Kanan, is on 28 acres of land and has trails, sports grounds, a lake, rich wildlife, and a variety of bird species.

Food

The teachers and volunteers prepare the meals. The food will be sattvic vegetarian, i.e., vegetarian food without onions, garlic, and mushrooms.

Meditation Steps will select organic as much as possible and prefer gluten and dairy-free. If you have any allergies or specific food preferences, please contact them beforehand so that they can adjust or make those items available.

It is strictly prohibited to bring or consume any meat, fish, eggs, onions, garlic, mushrooms, alcohol, tobacco, and narcotic drugs at the retreat premises. Any items containing those listed above are also prohibited.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Springfield–Branson National Airport (SGF). It is about two hours from Ananda Kanan.

Meditation Steps can pick you up at the airport or the Springfield, MO, Greyhound bus station for an additional 75 USD per person (35 USD if more than one person will be picked up at the same time).

This will be paid in cash to the driver or by other electronic means to the organizers. They cannot guarantee a pick-up, so please contact the organizer for availability. Rental cars are also available at the airport.

Flights to Saint Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) are usually cheaper, but driving to Ananda Kanan from STL takes about four hours (including a rest break.) You can rent a car from the airport or contact Meditation Steps for the possibility of a ride-share with other participants.

If ride-share is unavailable, the guests can rent a car or take a shuttle bus to Rolla, MO, and Meditation Steps can, in most cases, pick them up from there.

Arrival by bus

Meditation Steps can pick you up at the Springfield, MO, Greyhound bus station for an additional 75 USD per person (35 USD if more than one person will be picked up at the same time).

Arrival by car

From Highway 63, take the UU road until Country Road 1670 (second crossing). Turn left and go straight for around one mile until you reach the gate on the left.
