This safari offers a nice program to support you to live more from the heart. Most people have learned to live from the head and have lost touch with heart qualities like connection, love, satisfaction, humor, and wisdom. During the full safari, you will be with your heart, doing exercises to open your heart and to stay with your heart. You will be sharing with each other from sincerity, which is a big challenge but will make your energy flow again. You will leave this safari with a big smile and from now you will know what’s needed to return to your heart whenever you want to.
During this retreat you will be staying in nice, local guesthouses and medium-range lodges: Kilimanjaro Eco Lodge, Secret garden, Lawns Hotel, Papaa Moze Lodge, Magumba Hill Lodge, Raskazone Hotel, Drifters Lodge.
Africans are laughing a lot. In the morning you when you get out of your tent, your guide is welcoming you to the new day with a big smile. Having dinner with “locals” can result in roaring laughs. We tend to think Africans are “laughing their misery away” and that their laughing is kind of fake. Nothing is less true.
If they would have more to give, they would. To learn to see that will help you to appreciate what is there and is the way to more content and warmth in your relations.
This safari is a celebration, a heartwarming exploration, off the beaten track, through the mountain and coastal area of Tanzania. It stands out in its diversity of landscapes, activities, and accommodations.
The Usambara Mountains in the north have all its lovely roundings and rough rocky parts. The coastal area has abandoned beaches and fisherman villages where we can slow down, relax, snorkel, swim, meditate, listen to historic tales, eat with locals and more.
What is true is that African experiences and understands life can not be controlled. From there a deep laugh is coming from their hearts and many “frustrating” moments become relative instantly and are met with a smile.
Today you fly to Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania. Mindful Adventure will pick you up and bring you to Kilimanjaro Eco Lodge. Kilimanjaro Eco Lodge is only half an hour from the airport and close to the entrance of Arusha National Park. It is a friendly local lodge. Here you will meet with all participants of the safari and share your first impressions.
After breakfast, you start with the mindfulness heart program. Then you leave for Arusha National Park for a walking safari. Arusha National Park is located close to the active volcano Mount Meru. It is a small park with landscapes and views that are touching the soul. Here you can look for buffalo, elephants, hippos, giraffes, warthogs, impalas, zebra, blue monkeys and sometimes leopard or hyena.
After the park, you will drive to Moshi, on your way to the Usambara Mountains. In Moshi, you will spend the night in Secret Garden, a popular African decorated hotel.
The Usambara Mountains will steal your heart. It starts right away when the LandCruiser enters the mountain road. Beautiful colors, flowers, trees and sweet people in colorful clothes; a treat for your eyes. The first word entering your mind will be: lovely. They call it the Tuscany of Tanzania, but it also has more rough parts with great views.
From here you will make three-day trekking of 6-7 hours per day. The extra reward of your walk will come when you arrive at Mambo World Viewpoint. Next to the spectacular view, you have a big chance of seeing a breathtaking sunset.
It is fun to stroll through town, sniffing up the atmosphere of streetlife and have a look at the market.
Later on, you will go to Irente Viewpoint, and hopefully witness another Usambara sunset. You will spend the night in the nice Lawns Hotel.
Mindful Adventure's local guide Dennis Munga will pick you up for your first walking day (15 kilometers). Through a little village you will arrive at Magamba rainforest, the homeland of the black and white Colobus monkey.
You will do a nice heart exercise, eat the lovely self-made Usambara guacamole with chapati for lunch and continue your walk through farmland and forest, arriving at Papaa Moze Lodge to spend the evening and night. Your guide Dennis Munga grew up in the Usambara Mountains, you can’t have a better guide.
Your second walking day will bring you to forest and farmland, meet with the local Shambaa tribe, learn about medicinal plants, play with chameleons and deepen your experience of mountains and views with the help of mindfulness instructions during the walk. This night you will sleep in Magumba Hill Lodge.
On your last walking day, you start early in the morning with a meditation. Then you walk through the forests of Shagayu to the village Sunga. Here, you will have a lovely lunch together with the locals. In the afternoon, you arrive at a pottery workshop where the women are showing their merchandise.
At the end of the afternoon, you will arrive at Mambo Viewpoint. The view over Tsavo in West Kenia, Kilimanjaro, Mkomazi National Park and the mountains is world-class and very likely you will witness an unforgettable sunset. You will end your day with a drumming lesson and performance. You will sleep at Magumba Hill Lodge.
In the morning you will leave the Usambara Mountains. You will drive to Tanga (2-3 hours). Tanga is a lovely, lively but also a bit sleepy town in the Indian Ocean.
Wandering through the streets you will fall in love with the authentic character of streets and buildings, the markets, the sometimes cheerful processions of singing people, men playing outdoor a popular game and all the nice food that you can find displayed along the streets.
You walk in silence along the beach and end the day with a mindful sharing at the Raskazone Hotel, where you can rest after another exciting day.
In the meantime, you will be up for a day on the beach. And that is what you are going to do today. You leave for Pangani/Ushongo, also at the seaside. A short but fun ride with the characteristic landscapes of Tanzania’s East Coast.
Here you can enjoy the bright white beaches, the fisherman villages, and the peaceful local atmosphere. You can take a swim and sunbathe. Despite the perfect beaches, there is not a lot of tourism here. Most people go to Zanzibar. Local people don’t mind at all and love the peace.
At the end of the day, when the sun sets, there will be a dance meditation on the beach, a joy for your heart. You will spend the night in Drifters Lodge or Mikes Beach Cottages.
After the completion of this mindfulness program, Mindful Adventure will bring you to Dar Es Salaam to take the night flight home. On the way, you will stop at the historic Bagamoyo.
Bagomoyo was one of the most important settlements along the East African coast and the terminus of the trade caravan route linking Lake Tanganyika with the sea. Slaves, ivory, salt, and copra were unloaded here before being shipped to Zanzibar Island and elsewhere.
You will have a break here and look around before taking off to Dar Es salaam. Your plane will leave in the evening.
Safari njema na karibu tene – have a good trip, you will always be welcome. It is possible to extend your trip with a visit to Zanzibar. Please contact Mindful Adventure if you would like to do this!
After working for years as meditation teacher and therapist in the Netherlands (naturopath, bodywork, breathwork, hypno-and regression therapy, Clarity Proces and counselor/coach), I ended up unexpectedly in Tanzania. After an inspiring search on the spiritual and therapeutic market between 1985 and 2004, I came in touch with the Clarity Proces of Jeru Kabbal. I practiced his teachings on a daily basis for six years. This changed my way of looking at life radically. Our mind follows a script which is programmed in early years and endlessly repeats itself, even if reality is totally different.
This retreat will be held at five different locations around the Arusha National Park, Usambara Mountains, Tanga (near the seaside), Ushongo Bay, and historical Bagamoyo.
You will experience a walking safari at Arusha National Park. The national park is home to various animals such as the Black and white Colobus monkey and many exotic birds of more than 400 species! For example, the Silvery-cheeked Hornbill or the Greater Flamingo can be spotted. Thousands of flamingos are there as well as buffalo, giraffes, zebras, hippos, waterbuck, and warthog.
At Arusha National Park, you may enjoy the beautiful craters, waterfalls, and mountains. Arusha National Park is well known because of Mount Meru.
The package includes all meals and water. It is possible to order vegetarian meals. Snacks and drinks like sodas and alcoholic drinks you need to buy yourself.
