The epic journey starts in Kigali, the vibrant heartbeat of Rwanda. Dive headfirst into the city's vibrant tapestry, absorbing the energy of the Rwandan culture.

The first trek will start in the serene Volcanoes National Park in search of Golden Monkeys. The park is situated in the Virunga Mountains, a stunning volcanic range that straddles the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The park's lush rainforests, towering volcanoes, and mist-shrouded peaks offer a unique and unforgettable experience for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and adventurers alike, making it a must-visit destination in Rwanda. But hold onto your hats, because the real adventure is just beginning.

As you cross the border into Uganda, get ready for a primate trekking experience that will leave your heart racing and your spirit soaring. The thrill of tracking down gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitat is nothing short of electrifying.

Even though trekking is one of Namaste Yoga Safari Namibia's favorite experiences there, Uganda stole their heart with her breathtaking landscapes, incredible wildlife encounters, warm hospitality, and adventurous activities.

But the adrenaline doesn't stop there. You'll rev up the 4x4 safari landcruiser and point the compass towards Kenya, the land of legendary safaris. Brace yourself for the safari of a lifetime as you traverse the untamed wilderness of Masai Mara.

Yoga

Besides all the adventures and tours, you will also have daily yoga - the only days that there will be no yoga sessions planned are the first and last days of the trip.

The yoga sessions will encompass a blend of Yin, slow flows, Vinyasa flows, and Hatha-inspired practices, in addition to incorporating breathing techniques and a variety of guided meditations. All yoga sessions will be outdoors with the most incredible views!

Sample daily schedule

Day 1: Rwanda - Kigali

Begin your journey in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Spend some time exploring the city and getting a taste of Rwandan culture.

Day 2: Rwanda - Volcanoes National Park

Visit the Genocide Memorial Museum to learn about the country's tragic history. Explore the local markets and have lunch at a local restaurant for Rwandan cuisine.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park, a sanctuary of natural wonder and conservation. You will explore its magnificent landscapes and remarkable wildlife, an unforgettable experience, allowing you to connect with nature, observe rare wildlife, and immerse yourself in the heart of Rwanda's natural beauty.

Day 3: Uganda - Volcanoes to Bwindi National Park

This day, you will trek the Golden Monkey in Volcanoes National Park - home to the endangered golden monkeys. Your experienced guide will take you on a trek to observe these playful primates in their enchanting forested habitat.

You can also take an optional visit to the Dian Fossey grave at the Karisoke Research Center to learn about her conservation efforts and the history of gorilla conservation in Rwanda. You will then cross the border into Uganda and head to Bwindi.

Day 4: Uganda - Lake Bunyonyi

This day, you will embark on an extraordinary adventure as you take yourself deep into the heart of Africa's dense jungles for a life-altering gorilla trekking experience. This unforgettable journey will be your opportunity to encounter the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, an encounter that promises to be both humbling and exhilarating.

After the trek, you will head back to the lodge, relax, and have an afternoon yoga session.

Day 5: Transfer to Kibale National Park

Following breakfast, you'll journey to Kibale National Park. Upon arrival at your lodge, you'll have the opportunity to check in and explore optional activities, such as the boat cruise. Later in the evening, unwind with a rejuvenating yoga session at the lodge.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking experience

Uganda is one of the best places in the world for chimpanzee trekking, offering the opportunity to observe these remarkable primates in their natural habitat.

Day 7: Uganda - Jinja

This day will be quite a long drive to Jinja, a city located in southeastern Uganda, near the northern shores of Lake Victoria. It's known for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and various attractions.

Jinja is most famous for being the source of the Nile River, one of the world's longest rivers. Visitors can witness the Nile's start at the point where it flows out of Lake Victoria, known as the "Source of the Nile." This iconic spot is a must-visit and offers boat rides and scenic views.

Jinja is often referred to as the "Adventure Capital of East Africa" due to the wide range of thrilling activities available:

  • White-water rafting: The turbulent rapids of the Nile River provide excellent opportunities for white-water rafting. It's a popular activity for adrenaline junkies and adventure seekers.
  • Kayaking and canoeing: The calm sections of the Nile are perfect for kayaking and canoeing, catering to both beginners and experienced paddlers.
  • Bungee jumping: Jinja is home to one of the world's highest bungee jumps. You can take a leap off the Nile High Bungee platform for an exhilarating experience.

Day 8: Kenya - Lake Nakuru

Following breakfast, you'll embark on a scenic drive to the border, crossing into Kenya. The journey continues as you head towards Lake Nakuru, where you'll spend the night.

Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya's most famous and ecologically significant lakes, known for its stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife. Located in the Great Rift Valley, this alkaline lake and its surrounding national park offer a range of attractions and experiences for visitors.

Here are what you can expect when visiting Lake Nakuru:

Flamingo spectacle

Lake Nakuru is renowned for its vast flocks of flamingos that gather along the shoreline. The sight of these graceful pink birds wading in the shallow waters is a visual spectacle that draws nature enthusiasts and photographers from around the world.

While the flamingo population has fluctuated in recent years due to environmental factors, the lake remains a critical habitat for these birds.

Wildlife viewing

Lake Nakuru National Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, making it a fantastic destination for safaris and game drives. Some of the animals you can encounter include rhinos (both black and white), lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and various antelope species. The park is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 450 bird species.

Rhino sanctuary

Lake Nakuru National Park is renowned for its successful rhino conservation efforts. It provides a protected environment for both black and white rhinos, offering visitors the opportunity to see these magnificent creatures up close.

Day 9: Kenya - Masaai Mara

Fueling up with breakfast, you'll kickstart the engines and hit the road, roaring toward the untamed wilderness of Maasai Mara, where adventure awaits!

The Maasai Mara National Reserve, often simply referred to as the Maasai Mara, is one of the most famous and iconic safari destinations in Africa. Located in southwestern Kenya, adjacent to the Tanzanian border, it is renowned for its extraordinary wildlife, stunning landscapes, and cultural significance.

You'll arrive in the heart of Mara by late morning, refueling with an early lunch before diving into an exhilarating afternoon yoga session. As the sun sets, you can unwind and embrace the tranquil beauty of the lodge's surroundings for the rest of the evening.

Day 10: Explore Masaai Mara

Day 11: Kenya - Lake Naivasha

On this daring day, you will have the opportunity to seize an optional adventure: The Mara's skyward ballet in a hot air balloon. It all begins at the break of dawn and lasts for an exhilarating hour.

Ascending high above the Maasai Mara in a hot air balloon is nothing short of enchanting. It grants you the privilege of gazing upon wildlife and landscapes from a celestial vantage point, all while basking in the awe-inspiring vistas of the boundless savannah below.

Following this adventure, you'll journey to the stunning Lake Naivasha in Kenya's Great Rift Valley. This freshwater paradise is a haven for over 400 bird species and boasts a resident hippo population.

Explore lush greenery, embark on boat excursions for birdwatching, and even spot zebras, giraffes, and leopards in the nearby Hell's Gate National Park.

End the day with a boat safari, bringing you closer to the lake's wildlife, including hippos and giraffes. Relax and rejuvenate at the lodge with an enchanting yoga session as the sun sets over this tranquil oasis.

Day 13: Kenya - OlPejeta

After breakfast, you'll gear up for an extended morning game drive in the captivating Aberdare National Park. Within these wild confines, a rich tapestry of wildlife thrives, encompassing not only the Big Five but also a multitude of other species.

Among these cherished inhabitants are the endangered black rhino, the majestic Grevy's zebra, the elegant Jackson's hartebeest, and even chimpanzees. Notably, the conservancy is home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos, making it a vital sanctuary for these magnificent creatures.

As the sun begins its descent, you'll reconvene for a serene sunset yoga session at the lodge, embracing the tranquility that will surround you.

Chris does this route a few times a year and after doing trips with him in Uganda over the last three years, him and Marcel mapped out this trip that promises adventurous days, a fusion of cultural and wildlife encounters, and yoga amongst jaw-dropping landscapes.

Rwanda

As part of the 14-day road trip in September 2025, you will kick things off in Rwanda, where you'll delve into the dynamic tapestry of Kigali, immersing yourself in the rich Rwandan culture and experiencing the vibrant energy of this bustling metropolis.

From there, the adventure will take you to the Volcanoes National Park, a captivating sanctuary of lush forests and mist-shrouded volcanoes, where you can embark on transformative gorilla trekking adventures. This iconic park is home to endangered mountain gorillas, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness these incredible creatures in their natural habitat.

Uganda

Uganda is a country in East Africa with diverse landscapes and an abundance of wildlife, rare birds, and the mountain gorilla. There are just over a thousand mountain gorillas left in the world, and half of them are found in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Join as you trek these gentle giants, visit five National Parks for safari game drives, and go chimp trekking and falls hiking. Immerse yourself in culture, and stretch your bodies in the Ugandan forests.

Kenya

Kenya's diverse tapestry, from its rich cultural heritage to awe-inspiring natural wonders, beckons travelers. Nestled in East Africa, it offers vast landscapes, encompassing lush savannahs, soaring mountains, pristine shores, and equatorial forests.

Its people, representing a mosaic of ethnic groups, treasure and pass down traditions, blending urban culture with ancient customs in cities like Nairobi.

Kenya's natural beauty shines as a prime safari destination, with the iconic Maasai Mara National Reserve hosting the Great Migration, Amboseli National Park providing breathtaking elephant vistas, and the Great Rift Valley revealing Earth's geological history.

Mount Kenya and the Kenyan coast also invite adventure and relaxation, while diverse wildlife, including the "Big Five," showcases the country's conservation efforts.

Rwanda

Indulge in Rwandan cuisine with dishes like ibihaza (grilled plantains), brochettes (skewered grilled meat), akabenz (tilapia fish), ugali (maize porridge), isombe (cassava leaves in groundnut sauce), and umutsima (cassava and cornmeal with veggies). Enjoy fresh fruits like bananas, passion fruits, and pineapples, along with rich local coffee.

Uganda

In Uganda, the staple food is matoke (cooking bananas). Other foods include cassava (manioc), sweet potatoes, white potatoes, yams, beans, peas, peanuts, cabbage, pumpkins, and tomatoes. Fruits such as oranges, paw-paws (papayas), lemons, and pineapples are also grown. Meals at the lodges will be a variety of local and international cuisines.

Kenya

Kenya has a diverse culinary scene influenced by a variety of factors such as geography, climate, and cultural diversity. Here are some traditional and popular foods in Kenya: ugali, nyama choma, sukuma wiki, chapati, samosa, and fish.
