"Sweetest little dojo!"

I loved the mountain setting, the traditional architecture of the dojo, the authentic local village, the excellent training schedule rigorous but respectful of self pace, the amazing intimate community of international students, the serious dedication of the students, the gentleness and grounded stability of Shifu Yu.

"My perspective after 1 month of training:"

This has been one of the best experiences of my life. It teaches you so much about kung fu, movement, and your body/mind. The variety of practice makes training very interesting, while also giving you the chance to sample many different forms (shifu allows you specialize in one if you want).

The schedule is well structured to ensure you are getting enough rest while training at an intense interval. I found that I had enough time for personal pursuits. I absolutely loved the surrounding area and would frequently take walks after practice (beautiful mountain views). We have the weekends off, which is a great time to bond with fellow trainees, go into the city, and practice your Chinese! The food that Lili, Shifu’s wife cooks, is really good. I always looked forward to meals, and the chance to chat with my fellow trainees! One of the best, and most surprising aspects of this experience is the friends you make while training.

师傅 is a Shaolin Monk with great experience teaching others. He is kind, patience and has a very good sense of how much one can handle. He is very good at pushing you in a way that feels encouraging, teaching new forms of movement to all skill levels, and understanding how to encourage growth without injury. I would recommend this to anyone regardless of time stayed whether you are considering 1 week or 1 year!

"An authentic and life-changing experience"

The teacher is very patient, encouraging and knowledgeable. He looked after us well and even during the coronavirus crisis made sure everyone was safe. The training never gets boring - there's always new exercises, kung fu combinations, challenging strength exercises and fun acrobatics to learn - but you can do it all according to your own fitness level. The teacher helps you to focus on your individual goals. You will learn to push yourself, to be patient like never before, gain confidence as well as strength and flexibility and learn to be present in a profound new way - kung fu trains your mind as well as your body. You'll learn to appreciate the small things much more by living a simple, modest, peaceful life whilst training. If you are planning to go there in the winter - please bring thermals, a hot water bottle and a thermos as it is really cold. However, you will be healthier than ever as your immune system gets stronger every day as you keep training and eating healthily there. The food by the way is absolutely amazing as well! All in all - an experience I would happily recommend to anyone who is interested in self-development, Chinese culture and wants to get both mentally and physically stronger.

"Intro to Kungfu"

As a 38 year old with no formal training in kungfu, other than a bit kickboxing in my younger years, I was a little nervous about what to expect here. Within my first training session, it was clear that Master Yu takes the time to determine each student's skill set and learning style and teaches them accordingly. I never felt uncomfortable that i couldn't do flips or kicks like the younger students and I was always challenged to improve. I have since returned home fitter and stronger than I've been in years. Master Yu knows how to get the best out of every student and it was an honour to be taught by him.

You will only eat traditional chinese food here which is absolutely delicious. It's nothing like the chinese food we get back home. It's just healthy seasonal produce that is guaranteed to fill you up and keep your strength up during training.

The location was great. It will give you a taste of the rural lifestyle while still being a short bus ride into the next major city if you want to do some shopping or see a movie over the weekend.

The thing that made this place so special for me, aside from Master Yu's teaching, was the other students. The students here are passionate about Kungfu and will always encourage you in learning new skills, regardless of your level.

I can't recommend this place highly enough, whether you want to stay for a quick week or a year or two, it's worth it.
