Your journey begins on Sunday, when you are welcomed into the heart of the Amazon with a soothing floral bath. This ritual cleanses and relaxes your body, preparing you to settle into the sacred space. That evening, you’ll join the community for a chinese tea ceremony—a warm and intimate gathering designed to connect, introduce, and set intentions for the week ahead.
Monday morning starts with Kambo, a powerful detoxifying medicine. This ceremony reveals insights into your body’s state while providing a deep physical and energetic cleanse, opening pathways for the medicines to work more effectively in the days to come.
On Tuesday, the first Ayahuasca ceremony takes place. Guided by Paojilhuasca curanderos, this night is pivotal for those beginning a plant dieta. The curanderos carefully choose your plant ally during this ceremony, setting the stage for a deep connection that begins Wednesday or Thursday morning.
Wednesday invites reflection as we gather for another mambe talking circle to process and integrate the experiences of the previous night. It’s a time to share, listen, and grow together as a community.
Thursday presents an optional opportunity to try Yopo, another sacred medicine, offering profound insights and a unique connection to the ancestral traditions of the Amazon.
Friday brings the second Ayahuasca ceremony—a continuation of your unfolding journey, guided by the wisdom of the plants and the expertise of our shamans.
Saturday morning, we meet again in the mambe circle to share, support, and integrate the week’s transformative experiences.
On Sunday, the week concludes with either a San Pedro ceremony, Bufo alvarius medicine, or a day of rest and reflection, depending on the group’s energy and needs.
Throughout the week, a rhythm of practices and activities keeps you grounded and nurtured. Bodywork such as Chi Gong, Kundalini meditation, breathwork, and cardio exercises helps align body and spirit. A jungle walk or boat tour immerses you in the stunning natural beauty of the rainforest, while arts and crafts activities encourage creativity and expression.
Meals are thoughtfully prepared twice daily, embracing intermittent fasting to cleanse and rejuvenate the body. Locally sourced ingredients, enriched with superfoods like maca and chia seeds, provide nourishment that rebuilds and supports your physical health during this transformative process.
Each element of the week is crafted to guide you on a journey of healing, connection, and discovery—rooted in the ancient wisdom of the Amazon and enhanced by the mindful integration of modern practices.
You will experience a jungle tour during this retreat.
Fabrizio Beverina's background is in biomedical research. He was an expert in brain-computer interaction and emotional computing. He fled the scientific world and studied meditation in Asia. He spent 12 years in China and then travelled to Tibet and India to study with Tibetan Buddhist monks. He is currently conducting research on folk cures while maintaining a scientific perspective. He lived with several shamans in Colombia, Peru, and Brazil, where he learned a great deal about therapeutic herbs. Here, he also teaches meditation, chi-kung and helps make a variety of ancestral medicines.
Don Gardel is from a family of curanderos: his grandfather was one, and his two brothers are shamans as well. He learned ayahuasca from a Shipibo woman (la maestra Alicia) deep down on the river Momon. Now it’s 40 years that Don Gardel has been practicing this medicine. When he was a young man, he had the chance to go to work near Brasil where the Matses people live. There he learned to use kambo. This in combination with his experience and studies as a nurse make of Gardel one of the most famous Kambo healer of Iquitos.
he term "Maestra" (which in this context refers to the teacher) is used to refer to Alicia, who was once Gardel's teacher. Her grandfather was a "tabacchero," a type of curandero who specialized in using tobacco for medical purposes. She was initiated when she was quite young. She has a lot of allies from her years of long-term dieting and extensive knowledge with plant-based therapies. People from the neighbouring villages travel to her for traditional treatments. She is a strong, yet tender woman who acts as a big mama to all of the patients.
Compassionate and dedicated medical professional with specialized expertise in general and emergency medicine, and knowledge in physiology, gynecology, oncology, neurology, and psychiatry. My journey in medicine, driven by curiosity and a holistic approach, led me to explore yoga, meditation, conscious breathing, spirituality, and the medicine of Amazonian indigenous culture and find out how to blend scientific knowledge with alternative healing methods. Currently focused on integrating conventional medical practices with holistic health approaches to promote overall well-being and self-awar
The retreat will take place in Iquitos, Maynas Province, Peru. On the river Itaya, close to the little village of Paraiso (paradise), the location of the center is very special. You can feel the jungle all around and the dolphins jumping at night. Depending on the weather conditions, Paojilhuasca amazonian medicine camp can be reached by boat from Iquitos (five hours), by motor taxi (one to two hours), or by foot (motor taxi to kilometer 32 of the Iquitos-Nauta road, then two hours walk through the jungle). You are in the jungle so the internet is not always available.
The meals at Paojilhuasca are carefully crafted to support your healing journey and enhance the effects of the plant medicine.
