Holistic Meditation and Yoga Retreat in Greece

This is a retreat of wellness to re-connect & re-vitalize while emphasizing deep rest, creating quality time. An invitation for a journey to unlock the unlimited infinite inner potential for balance and health. Enjoy a retreat at Phlea farm to tune in with autumn's wisdom and celebrate life by detoxing the body and reconnecting with the self and nature.

Autumn 's energy is a time of transition and transformation, the lungs (respiration, taking in) and large intestine (elimination) channels are correlated to that season. According to chinese medicine, we are invited to work on our ability to balance between ''taking in'' and ''letting go''. Using the physical body ( Yoga- Tao- Boudhism), we can assist, support and guide the emotional and mental aspects of our being to proceed smoothly through Autumn 's transition, in order to prepare the ideal ground for winter.

“Melt like snow, wash from yourself and let love grow in your soul, silent as a lily” - Rumi.

The metal element in yoga

According to ancient traditions (Ayurveda, Buddhism, Taoism), nature’s cycles are associated with the Five Elements. Just as nature enters now into this cycle, so does the energy within you. Modern Western thinking, rooted in mind-body dualism, splits you off from instinct and nature.

You see yourselves as separate from the whole web of life. You lose connection with the natural world and, by extension, your true nature. The key here is that connection with nature shifts your focus to the present moment, It takes you away from yourself and gives you relief from your mental state.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as in the Indian traditions of yoga and Ayurveda, it is believed that there is a vital force in all life, a primordial being that is the foundation of all vitality. In TCM it is called: Chi, in the Indian traditions it is called: Prana.

In the fall you may feel the need for routine and structure in your life. This is not only a practical solution to avoid feeling overwhelmed; it is actually an energetic predisposition. When you look at animals in the wild, they do the same thing; they are getting their “affairs” in order by collecting seeds, nuts and other nutrition to be prepared for the winter season. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) fall is associated with Metal: the element of structure.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the five-phase theory. This theory suggests that there are five elements in nature that cycle in phases through the seasons and your organs: earth, water, wood, metal, and fire.

The five elements represent energies that succeed each other in a continuous cycle. Not the elements themselves but the movement between them is emphasized in this theory. In a generative cycle.

Being aware of this cycle and recognizing the relationship between the elements is essential for maintaining (or creating) optimal balance in your physical body as well as for mental and emotional health.

In order to maintain this optimal health you also need to support an unobstructed flow of Chi through the meridians in your body, and keep a generative balance between the elements. This is why it is helpful to have an understanding of how the seasons and the elements are related.

Choosing appropriate practices or activities will help to maintain or reestablish this balance. Chi has an intelligence of its own; when you assist its smooth flow it knows exactly how to bring your system back to homeostasis.

The characteristics of the metal element

Fall is a common time for people to get sick. It may therefore not surprise you that the lungs and large intestines are the organs associated with the metal element. Metal governs your respiration; the lungs “grasp” Chi from the heavens and draw it inward for our body to use.

It also affects your immune system that protects you from pathogens in the air. The lung meridian opens into the nose, which is the doorway into the lungs. Balanced metal allows for healthy boundaries, an easy routine, and inspiring rituals, whereas too little metal will lead to sloppiness and numbness.

When metal becomes overbearing you will have difficulty with expressing yourselves, with intimacy and spontaneity. This can also result in issues with the respiratory system, the skin, elimination, and with the lymphatic and immune system.

How to keep the metal element balanced

To keep metal balanced you need structure and routine equalized with an ability to let go and allow yourselves to be supported. You need to soften your boundaries to connect with others, to be social and spontaneous, and give yourselves the time to follow your passion.

The magical Leros Island is hosting its vision for the fourth year, offering a blissful environment, the perfect ground for retreats. The powerful energy of the island, the rare clarity of its light, the wealth of this blessed land, the uncontaminated nature, and so much more, awakes the inner ability to surrender and enjoying life while allowing deep rest and fulfillment.

It is the ideal destination for those who need authenticity, peace, natural beauty, calming energy, and an easy-going mentality. It feels immediately ''home’’. It comes naturally to tune to the energetic flow, totally and completely, in an effortless and familiar way, by merging into the healing waters, walking through wild paths, enjoying the sunset from the top of a mountain, snorkeling at secret corners, trekking, enjoying large biodiversity while discovering wild herbs and new fragrances of flowers, having memorable views, or just by being in the bay to eavesdrop the wonders of existence!

Phlea Farm is located in Alinda Bay about a two-minute walk from the sea. It is home to around 500 very old trees, oranges, tangerines, lemons, guavas, olives, some of which are over 100 years old. For five years now, they started implementing the principles of natural farming according to Masanobu Fukuoka and Panagiotis Manikis on the farm. They aim at maximizing biodiversity and becoming a showcase for an alternative to mainstream agriculture.

Archontiko Angelou is a converted stone mansion of 1895. Initially, it was the family’s summer villa. When this listed building was converted and innovated, respecting and uplifting the old noble style and atmosphere, it became one of the ‘‘bijoux’’ of Leros. Marianna Angelou is always glad to host retreats and take care of everything!
