Tour information
This tour requires valid national and international motorbike license as well as advanced off-road riding skills. Damage to a motorbike and equipment is at the expense of the customer. Tire punctures or light scratches in plastic cowlings are not a damage.
Day 1: Ban Pong to Phrao, 130 kilometers / 81 miles
Phrao Outdoor will pick you up at your hotel / accommodation. From Ban Pong, you ride along the Mae Kuang route and trails in the Teak Forests. After a lunch break, you continue on paved backroads and dual tracks along huge mango and longan orchards to arrive in Phrao where you stay for the night.
Day 2: Phrao to Chiang Dao, 120 kilometers / 75 miles
You disappear in the mountain region east of Phrao to climb the high summit of Doi Mon Lan (1675 MSL) on a steep dirt road followed by a narrow paved road following the mountain ridge, offering some stunning views.
Back to Phrao, you swing down 160 curves to get some delicious lunch before you ride the last 40 kilometers to Chiang Dao along a paved road. Not missing out an amazing shortcut through a mystic bamboo forest!
Day 3: Chiang Dao to Pai, 130 kilometers / 81 miles
A short ride takes you to the famous Chiang Dao Cave this morning. Phrao Outdoor Adventure hires a local guide for you to explore this limestone cave with Buddhist shrines in some of its chambers.
After your 1 hour underground excursion, you enter the Huai Nam Dang National Park. Along a winding paved road across mountain ranges and along the majestic Doi Luang, with 2175 meters the 2nd highest peak in Thailand, you get to the lush green valley of Mueang Khong.
After lunch in a food stall, you climb up high in the mountains along a stunning 30 kilometer offroad section along steep slopes with orange farms and hilltribe villages. This section ends on a height of 1700 meters sea level. After a stop at a viewpoint, you follow a narrow road to the famous Pai Road #1095 and swing down in the valley along countless paved curves.
You arrive at your destination Pai, where you will stay for the night. But before you check in at your accommodation, you will enjoy a cold drink!
Day 4: Pai to Wiang Haeng and Mueang Khong, 110 kilometers / 70 miles
Today begins with a ride across a mountain range to Wiang Haeng, a small town close to the Burmese border. The route is half paved, half dusty with a few quite challenging hills. After lunch and refilling your tanks, you climb up to a mountain region which is absolutely off the beaten tracks to descend to the valley of Mueang Khong on the other side. Here, you will check in for the last night of your tour.
Day 5: Mueang Khong to Ban Pong, 130 kilometers / 82 miles.
Your trip back to Chiang Mai begins with a water crossing and a ride across a mountain range to the village Sop Khai at the banks of the Mae Taeng River. You are in the so-called 'Elephant Valley' of Mae Taman now. You will follow the only paved road along the river, pass some elephant camps and then arrive at Mae Taeng.
After a ride along the Mae Ngat Dam, it's time for some final stunning off-road. Along the "Sticky Waterfall" and fun trails crossing the Teak Forest, where your tour began, you get back to Ban Pong where your tour finally ends.
