Program
You will stay in one of the guest houses on the ranch and experience real ranch life. Depending on the time of year, you will get the chance to work cattle or young horses with Rancho La Teja, go on stunning trail rides, or improve your riding and horsemanship skills. You can also just sit by a beautiful saltwater pool and chill while overlooking the hills around you and enjoying stunning sunsets.
You might see some vultures or eagles flying right over you, part of Andalusia's incredible wildlife. You should be comfortable in the saddle and be able to walk, trot, and canter on a well-trained horse. They reserve the right to adapt your riding program to your riding skills. If you want to pause a day, there are innumerous stunning places to visit nearby.
Daily itinerary:
- 1st day arrival: welcome drinks (local Sherry wines included) and typical Spanish tapas
- 2nd day: horsemanship and riding lessons, getting used to the horses and vice versa
- 3rd day: big trail ride to either mountains or lakeside with a stop to have a nice picnic in a breathtaking surrounding
- 4th day: Cattle drive with big herds on an authentic Spanish finca of more than 600 hectars land. Afterwards, you'll have a typical Spanish paella or barbecue together.
- 5th day: Real jobs with the cattle on open fields or in the arena. Rancho La Teja can show you skills on how to use the rope or the garrocha.
- 6th day: You can chose between horse riding classes or another trail ride. Rancho La Teja can also improve your cow working skill with "Paula", our mechanical cow.
- In the afternoon you have another goodbye drink with snacks.
- 7th day: Departure
Instructors
Oliver Kraft
Working with cattle is when training horses makes sense for Oliver. Even though he grew up being taught dressage, his passion is training ranch horses and using the rope when doing his cowboy job in the open countryside. Oliver is a very committed trainer towards his students and tasks and his main focus lies in performing clinics where he can pass on the skills and knowledge he obtained in Canada and the USA regarding cattle work, trail work, and ranch work. He is an expert in ground work, horsemanship, and trailer loading which makes him a highly professional all-rounder.
Natalie Kraft
Natalie is a passionate and experienced horse trainer. Being open-minded, eclectic, and thirsty to learn, allowed her to develop her working style and her main goal still is to improve her skills every day. She is dedicated to training horses, starting colts, working with cattle, giving riding lessons, and coaching people, always adapting to the abilities of each personality, no matter if two or four-legged. She adores hosting guests and allowing others to dive into the everyday routines at Rancho La Teja.
Location
The retreat will take place in Prado del Rey, Andalusia, Spain. Rancho La Teja is:
- Surrounded by two national parks: Sierra de Grazalema and the Oak Wook forest and also numerous wide open fields
- In the middle of the famous Andalusian "Route of the White Villages"
- Close to lots of rivers, lakes, and waterfalls nearby guarantee some fantastic trail rides
- Nestled in between huge Spanish Cattle Ranches
- Not far from the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe are just an hour away.
- Close to the airports of Seville, Jerez, and Málaga
- Countless outdoor activity possibilities nearby
Food
Rancho La Teja offers welcome drinks (including local Sherry wines, typical Spanish tapas snacks, a picnic, and a barbecue or paella on one of the cattle days, included in the price. Other regular meals are not included but we give you recommendation to many cute local bars and restaurants nearby (two to five minutes drive) where you can have breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at economic prices. We might even go together. Supermarkets are close by and you have a kitchen where you can prepare some meals on your own at any time.
