This exciting tour takes in the best tar and dirt roads of South Africa's famous Garden Route. You will start in Cape Town going through the Cape Peninsula, Cape Agulhas, Garden Route National Park, and many other interesting locations before finally ending in Port Elizabeth on the last day. This tour is an easy ride with a bit of gravel. There will be six ridings days but there will be one rest day for you to refresh your energy before going back to riding.
You will be accommodated in 3 to 4-star accommodation.
Welcome to South Africa. You will be transferred from the airport to the hotel located within walking distance of the VA Waterfront with spectacular views of Table Mountain. There is so much to see and do in Cape Town. Take a hop-on hop-off bus tour, visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 26 years, or take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. This afternoon you will have a tour briefing, followed by the official welcome dinner.
Today is a highlight of the tour - you explore beautiful coastal roads to Cape Point Peninsula and then head into the beautiful Cape Winelands over exciting mountain passes and sleep surrounded by beautiful wine farms. Tonight you enjoy tasting South African wine.
Today you make your way over the famous Franschhoek pass and ride beautiful coastal roads through the Cape Overberg. You stop off to see the penguin colony living on the beach in Betty's Bay and then make your way to Cape Agulhas - the Southernmost Tip of Africa. Situated at 34.8 degrees south and 20 degrees east - this is also the point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Tonight you dine at a famous local restaurant - with world-class fresh seafood.
From the Southern Tip of Africa, you make your way over the famous Tradouw pass to Route 62. Route 62 is South Africa's answer to Route 66 in America - it is a beautiful secondary road that winds its way through the Mighty Karoo Desert, through small quirky towns and villages. You make a few interesting stops (including Ronnie's Sex Shop) and arrive in Oudtshoorn in the last afternoon. Oudtshoorn is the Ostrich Capital of South Africa. Tonight you enjoy a traditional ostrich braai (bbq).
Day 4 is a rest day - but there is so much to see and do. You will have a guided tour of the Cango Caves with its beautiful stalactites and stalagmites and a tour of a working ostrich farm - where you will get to feed, touch, and hug ostriches. For those that would like to do some more exciting dirt riding, there will be an optional ride over the famous Swartberg Pass. This is a bucket list ride for adventure bikers the world over. This afternoon, relax and enjoy the warm Karoo hospitality that this area is known for.
Today you make your way down to the Indian Ocean, where you will be spending the night at the Knysna Waterfront and you visit the famous Knysna Heads. En route you can choose to ride the tar over Outeniqua Pass or the gravel road over Price Alfred Pass - both options are breathtaking! Welcome to bikers paradise!
Next up you ride to the Garden Route National Park. En-route you stop off at Bloukrans Bungee. This is the highest bungee jump in the world - and those brave enough and attempt the 214-meter high jump, and the rest of you can just admire the breathtaking views. From the bungee site, you ride down to Storms River mouth where you spend the night in wooden cabins overlooking the ocean. This afternoon you can enjoy a short walk to the breathtaking suspension bridges hanging between the sea cliffs. Otherwise, you may wish to just relax, enjoy some more rides in the area, or take part in some exciting optional activities.
This morning you make your way to Addo Elephant National Park, home to Africa's famous Big 5. Later you will embark on a sunset game drive in an open safari vehicle. Addo is famous for its large herds of elephants and other exciting wildlife. There is nothing quite like enjoying an ice-cold drink in an open safari vehicle as the sun goes down, animals serenading you in the distance. Tonight is your last night of the tour and you celebrate the end of an amazing motorcycle tour around a crackling fire!
Unfortunately, your motorcycle tour of Cape Town and the Garden Route has come to an end. The tour officially ends after breakfast and transfers will be arranged to the Port Elizabeth airport.
This ride is suitable for most motorcyclists. +- 99% of the ride is on good tarmac roads. There are also some exciting off-road options on good hard-packed gravel roads. Daily distances are relatively short ( >450km), there are rest days scheduled regularly and there are no long border crossings.
Starting in Cape Town, you tour the Cape Peninsula, visit Cape Point, and sleep in the beautiful village of Franschhoek (French Corner) surrounded by the wine farms of the Cape Winelands (wine tasting included). Next up you make your way to the Southern Tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas. Here the cold Atlantic Ocean meets the warm Indian Ocean in a turbulent mix of untamed beauty.
You then ride the scenic Route 62 to Oudtshoorn - the Ostrich Capital of South Africa. You have a rest day here where you can ride some exciting tar and gravel mountain passes (Die Hel or Swartberg Pass), visit an ostrich farm, or the Cango Caves. Next up, you head down over the beautiful Outeniqua Pass and spend a night in Knysna at the waterfront where you admire the beautiful Knynsa headlands.
You then carry on the ride to Storms River Mouth in the Garden Route National Park. Those brave enough can do the world’s highest bungee jump on the way. After viewing the Storms River Mouth Suspension Bridges you enjoy a safari into Addo Elephant National Park. Here you can see the Big 5, including lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard - living in the wild. The tour ends in Port Elizabeth on the last day and includes a flight back to Cape Town or Johannesburg.
You may wish to spend a few extra nights at Addo Elephant Park enjoying game drives and game walks or perhaps book one of the add on tours to Victoria Falls or Kruger National Park. The Sama Team will happily book any post tour activity's for you.
