She designed this retreat in 2019, a year after she started intermittent fasting herself. She is a medical doctor with many years of experience in treating women’s diseases and helping people lose weight and maintain their weight loss. She chose to host these weight loss retreats in a part of the world where inhabitants live the longest, healthiest, and fittest lives in Europe, despite eating substantial amounts of rich food and drinking copious amounts of wine.
As well as being a medical hypnotherapist and a certified master NLP practitioner, she is also a certified equine-assisted experiential learning coach. She is convinced that mindful eating, combined with intermittent fasting, is the secret of losing weight and keeping it off permanently.
Dr. M Montagu will be leading this retreat. She is an author of 4 books, all horse-inspired, life-enriching, and subtly French flavored. After working for 20 years as a medical doctor in a variety of specialities including psychiatry and general practice, she came to the conclusion that many diseases have their roots in her patients’ inability to handle stress effectively. She eventually combined her education and experience to create the transformational stress management residential retreats that she now hosts in the south of France.
The house, deep in the heart of Gascony, 90 minutes' drive south-east of Bordeaux is located on several acres of lush, green meadows and is surrounded by vineyards, woods, orchards, and sunflower fields.
Secluded but not isolated, this 200-year-old farmhouse is only 5 minutes by car from Nogaro, a typical local town, with all amenities. Here, the small herd of horses lives outside, year-round. They are not stabled, although they do have access to shelter, especially needed in the hot summer months when they can often be found dozing in the woods or in the field shelter.
There is varied terrain for them to explore, mimicking the prairies they would have roamed before horses became domesticated. Free-range horses, and eco-friendly!

This weight loss retreat is a celebration of the wonderful variety of fresh local produce available from the garden as well as from the local weekly fresh food markets.
