Sewall House Yoga Retreat just got voted #2 again by USA Today voter contest 2 years in a row! This retreat also has been chosen as a top ten in USA, Canada by Condé Nast Traveler. Donna/Amrita, owner of Sewall House, has extensive experience teaching chakra workshops, including her popular series on Daily Om Journey through the Chakras. They will use various forms of yoga, be given a manual with practices, explanations and applications written by Amrita for a Hay House publishing contest, as well as journal questions within each chapter for each chakra. You will come away with a better understanding of your own self and energy based on the physical, mental and breath (spiritual) aspects of yoga as a tool for awareness and self healing.

Clear your soul at the historic Sewall House, built in 1865, where yoga instructor Donna Davidge’s great-grandfather, William Sewall, taught Theodore Roosevelt the wonders, beauty, and healing attributes of nature.

Donna’s great grandfather’s chosen location in northern Maine is close to Canada and near Mt. Katahdin, where the sun first hits the East Coast as it rises; you can enjoy the nearby forests, lakes (Mattawamkeag Lake and Pleasant Lake), Baxter State Park and wildlife such as moose and loons. It is here you will be able to experience serenity and solitude, away from the trappings of everyday life.

Sewall House is an alcohol and recreational drug-free environment in keeping with the yoga lifestyle.

The yoga retreat offers a warm bed and breakfast atmosphere filled with antique treasures and books as well as a lovely fireplace for gatherings in the living room. Yoga DVDs and books are available for use during your stay.

Program

Everything is energy. To balance your life is to organize your energy systems as a cycle of proportions. For example: How much do you sleep? How hard do you push yourself? The chakras are amazing tools to empower you and peel the layers of issues that may lie physically, mentally, and emotionally in your body.

In this special retreat, you will look at the various areas of your life - personal, professional, and financial - to discover where imbalances lie. From there, you will work toward an awareness of how your energy centers can help you address healing and offer insight into creating habits that will allow you to experience life to its full potential.

Yoga traditions teach you that your full physical potential lies dormant at the bottom of the spine. To awaken this powerful life gift, yoga offers techniques to unblock and harmonize the energy centers, called chakras (vortex or wheel). Through these techniques, you strengthen the internal organs, nerves, and glands associated with each of these areas as you move up the spine.

This special retreat will be led by Donna Davidge, the owner of Sewall House. Donna has offered chakra workshops for years in New York City at the Open Center, as well as at other centers on the East Coast, and at Sewall House.

Location

Sewall House is located in the northern part of Maine, in the town of Island Falls, which is in the southern part of Aroostook County. The area is known for Baxter State Park, Mount Katahdin, and the surrounding lakes.

It is only 30 miles from the Canada-United States border, so bring your passport! The bordering town in the United States is Houlton. In Canada, the bordering town is Woodstock, which is 92 km west of Fredericton, the quaint, artsy capital of New Brunswick.

Food

In keeping with traditional yogic values, Sewall House serves a vegetarian menu. The food is ample, tasty, mostly organic, and prepared in the kitchen. Sewall House serves homemade items such as granola made with gluten-free, organic oats, bread, jams, and nut butter for breakfast, in addition to yogurt, cheese, and fruit. Sewall House usually offers eggs or pancakes on weekends.

Examples of the main dishes include veggie burgers, chili, soups, and different types of curries. The dinners are followed by desserts such as cookies, brownies, and raw items. Most of the food is naturally gluten-free and vegan options are readily available. Let Sewall House know about any food allergens ahead of time so they are aware.

Please also note that if you require all meals to be gluten-free or completely vegan, a 20 USD charge per person per day applies.

Please book your flight to arrive at Bangor International Airport (BGR). Airport transfer is not included in the price.

From the airport, you can catch a bus or rent a car. Sewall House provides Bangor airport pickup and drop-off for a fee. If you’d like to drive to Sewall House Yoga Retreat, it is conveniently located only about a mile off Interstate 95.

The airport transport fee from Bangor, Maine, is 110 USD each way.
