Summary of the 10th World Tantra Yoga Festival 2025

Day 1: Shivaratri

On the auspicious day of Maha Shivaratri, the festival officially started. You perform a comprehensive Shiva puja in the morning in a Shiva temple, as you all make an offering and chant many stotrams and mantras for Shiva, to invoke the Shiva consciousness from inside. Afterward, you perform Havan (fire ceremony). In the afternoon, over 100 guests arrive to enjoy the program. There were many performances of dance, kirtan, bajan, mantra, and speech.

The Machhegaun band performed traditional Nepali music on which everyone danced together. After, everyone could enjoy delicious Prasad, prepared by the ashram.

‘Shiva’ represents the higher consciousness and ‘Ratri’ refers to the night. Thus, the sadhana on Shivaratri happens throughout the whole day and night. At the Havana Kunda, the whole night there was a fire so guests could meditate around.

Day 2: Boudhanath and Pashupatinath

In the morning, the regular sadhana continues with morning chanting, Havana, and yoga practice. In the morning, you take some time to relax after a busy previous day. After lunch, you leave the ashram to visit the Boudhanath stupa. Boudhanath stupa is a Tibetan stupa, and its massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal and the world. You spend some time at Boudhanath, visiting the area, and then leave for an evening program at Pashupathinath.

Pashupathinath is the main temple of Shiva, and therefore the main temple for yogis. It is the location in which the discourse between Shiva and Parvati took place. In this discourse, Shiva gave the science of yoga to Parvati. From this moment, yoga was introduced to the world.

You walk around the big temple area and visit the place where Goraknath (direct disciple of Matsyendranath and Shiva, establisher of Hatha yoga), used to meditate. You visit a few other powerful spots and then join the aarti (big worship to Shiva).

Day 3: Bhaktapur

In the morning, you perform the regular sadhana with morning chanting in the temple, Havana, and yoga practice. After breakfast, you drive to Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is known for its Durbar Square and an area full of ancient temples and ancient wood carvings. You spend the day visiting Durbar Square and visiting various temples around the area.

You take darshan at the temple of Dattatreya and are invited inside the property of a traditional woodcarver. He will show you his work, as he carves the stories of all incarnations of Buddha, the 64 yoginis, Avataras, and Gods into the wood. You take some Dahi (famous curd from Bhaktapur), end the activities with meditation, and return to the ashram.

Day 4: Drive to Pokhara

After a daily morning sadhana with chanting, Havana, and yoga practice, you head to Pokhara in a minivan. Arriving in Pokhara, you check in at the hotel and have an evening walk throughout the city.

Day 5: Visiting temples in Pokhara

The morning started with the regular yoga sadhana, on the roof of the hotel, with a clear Himalayan view. Afterward, enjoy breakfast at a favorite vegetarian restaurant, which has already provided food for Shanti Yoga Ashram's Pokhara program for many years. You visit the Tal Barahi temple in the middle of the lake, where you go by boat. You take darshan and enjoy Satsang, surrounded by the peaceful water, beautiful mountains, and the sound of the temple bells.

After the Tal Barahi temple, have lunch and continue to the next temple: Hanuman Mandir. You visit the local ashram and sing the Hanuman Chalisa and Kirtan in front of the Hanuman shrine.

Day 6: Hike to World Peace Pagoda and Shiva statue

In the morning, you perform regular morning yoga on the roof of the hotel. After that, take a big brunch as you have a big hike on the upcoming program. Through the forest, you hike to the World Peace Pagoda, established by Japanese Buddhist monks. Then, you hike further toward a big Shiva Statue, still partly under construction.

Again, you're very lucky with the clear Himalayan view and the view from the top was beyond beautiful. The whole project of this big statue was established by a small community of locals, who were very dedicated. It has more than 216 Shiva lingams and is 54 feet high. You perform meditation at the location and then descend down to enjoy a well-deserved dinner.

Day 7: Paragliding and continuing to Damauli

In the morning, those who are interested in flying will go paragliding. They were lucky with the clear Himalayan view and had an unforgettable experience. After the paragliding, you enjoy your last meal at a favorite vegetarian restaurant and continue your journey toward Damauli.

In Damauli, you visit the Ved Vyas cave, where the rishi Ved Vyas meditated. Ved Vyas composed the Vedas. It will be a special place with beautiful energy. You visit the local ashrams on either side of the Ganga and enjoy Kirtan, Aarti, Satsang, and Prasad.

Day 8: Program in Damauli and drive to Gorkha

On this day you wake up early to perform yoga sadhana together with the local ashram at the side of the Ganga. After this collective sadhana, you take a bath in the Ganga and everyone has the opportunity to perform his own meditation/mantra sadhana at the side of the river, as its effect amplifies in this holy environment.

You receive Prasad from the ashram and their disciples take you to another cave and temple, where Ved Vyas and other rishis used to meditate. Full of good energy, you continue your journey towards Gorkha, where Bibas Shrestha and Bharti Thapa organized the program and accommodation. After checking in at the hotel, you go to the royal palace of Gorkha, where the cave is located where Goraknath (the establisher of Hatha yoga). Enjoy the powerful energy of the place and hike further upwards to the shrine of Bajra Bhairav. Here, you meditate at sunset.

Day 9: Program in Gorkha and drive to Chitwan

In Gorkha, you enjoy morning sadhana. The morning yoga felt extra strong as the energy of Saint Goraknath was around. After, you receive a tour from Bibas, showing you the national museum and local temples, showing the history of Nepal. You return to the royal palace to once more feel the strong energy of Goraknath and arrive exactly at the moment in which they were performing rituals in his cave. To receive his energy, you stay at the location to perform meditation.

The retreat participants are very grateful to the hosts Bibas and Bharti, for taking care of this program in Gorkha. After a delicious lunch, you continue your journey towards Chitwan.

Day 10: Safari in Chitwan

After busy previous days, you enjoy a relaxed morning in which everyone is free to do his own practice. Surrounded by rice fields, one could enjoy the stillness and morning peace.

You gather together for brunch and go for a four-hour jeep safari. You are very lucky if you can see rhinos, bears, deer, wild pigs, peacocks, crocodiles, elephants, and various colorful birds.

Day 11: Devghat and return to Kathmandu

An early wake-up to go to Devghat, the place where the Trisuli and the Kali Gandaki rivers merge to form the Narayani, a major tributary of the Ganga (Ganges). This place is known for its spiritual power and for welcoming everyone to perform their practice towards realization. It is one of the major places people visit when they are on pilgrimage. It has various ashrams with many Gurukul students, who grow up to become an instrument for god. You are blessed to have Satsang with one aghore, who introduced you to his mantra and taught you about chakra practices.

One of his teachings: “It does not matter from which background you are and what you did in the past, it is all to be left behind. All that matters is your sadhana, your practice, that you are doing right now”. After that, you join the brunch together with all the other Gurukul students of the ashram. The whole dining hall was filled with yogis, chanting mantras before eating.

After brunch, you continue exploring the place and come to the cave of Guru Vasishta (the guru of Rama). You practice darshan and continue to another cave where Sita (the spouse of Rama) disappears from the world. At this location lives a female sadhu, who already lived in the cave for 17 years. You are blessed to have Satsang with her and you leave with baggage full of true wisdom. Lastly, you take a dive in the Ganga and depart back to Kathmandu.

At all locations you'll perform yoga, meditation, and Satsang to carry the divine energy of the Siddha peeths within.
