Daily itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Siem Reap and cycle the Siem Reap backroad

Upon arrival, please look out for the Siem Reaper welcome sign at the arrivals gate. The Siem Reaper team will transfer you to your hotel, where you can take your time and relax by the pool or venture out for your first exploration of this ancient city. Your guide will meet you at the hotel reception at 2:00 p.m. for a trip briefing before embarking on your first exploration of the Siem Reap backroads.

You will leave Siem Reap's busy streets behind and ride along dirt roads and country lanes, past rural villages and lush rice paddies. Stop along the way to meet the locals in a traditional village and learn about Cambodian daily life. You will see rice fields, the local market, mushroom farms, rice wine distillation, Buddhist temples, lotus farms, and village handicrafts along the way. Afterward, you return to the hotel and enjoy dinner this evening. Serving authentic and creative Cambodian cuisine, Siem Reaper is certain that you will enjoy the dishes.

Day 2: Cycle to the Angkor Temples

After breakfast at the hotel, start your morning ride to Angkor Archaeology Park and enjoy a day of exploring the spectacular temples! Enter the Angkor Thom city through the ancient gate, which is carved with elephants and four giant faces. Then head to Bayon Temple, which is located in the center of the city. Admire its enigmatic faces that represent the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire.

Afterward, explore the Terrace of the Elephants and Baphuon Temple, which offer a window into Khmer culture through their sculptures and architecture. Continue your ride through the forest trails and see the jungle-enveloped Ta Prohm. Explore this temple, which is overgrown with jungle trees and was once featured in the Tomb Raider film. You will also stop for a lunch break by the tropical garden with a view over the pond. It is a perfect place to take in your surroundings and relax.

Following the lunch break and a rest period, you then set out to visit the iconic Angkor Wat temple. With its rich history and symbolism, it is also the largest religious monument in the world and the finest example of Khmer architecture. An afternoon visit to the magnificent ancient temple of Angkor Wat will give you a chance to appreciate the vastness and beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site without the crowds.

Day 3: Cycle to Banteay Samre and Banteay Srei

Today, the bike tour takes you on unpaved roads through rural villages. You cycle on a flat road to the temple of Banteay Samre. From there, it goes back on unpaved roads through attractive villages, along with rice fields, and to the temple of Banteay Srei, which is located outside the actual temple city and is made of pink sandstone. The roads are peaceful, narrow, and very pretty all the way to Banteay Srei.

There are plenty of beautiful and real country views to see along the way as you cycle past the local markets, schools, villages, and Buddhist temples. Take a water break under the shade of the tree before you reach Banteay Srei, which is known as the Citadel of Women, this red sandstone temple is one of Angkor’s most significant structures as its walls are decorated with elaborate carvings, which have been preserved remarkably well.

Day 4: Pedal the floating village and sunset cruise

Today, you explore the great landscape of the Tonle Sap Lake by bike and boat. This is a unique experience offering a great outdoor adventure in Siem Reap’s countryside by exploring a floating village and enjoying a sunset cruise along the river. This tour will take you to charming backroads in order to explore the local ways of life in Siem Reap. You will be greeted by friendly locals and get a deeper understanding of their lives and traditions.

The journey will end at the Tonle Sap Lake, where you will experience the livelihoods of Cambodian people living in the floating villages, offering you the opportunity to see how families adapt their lives to living on the water. At the end of the day, you will watch the sunset on the lake with some snacks and cold beverages. You will return back to the city by private vehicle in the late evening.

Day 5: Trip concludes

Your tour comes to an end this morning. There are no activities on your final day, and you are free to leave at any time. Your time is at leisure until your transfer to Siem Reap International Airport for your onward flight and you say goodbye to your tour guide.

About the holiday

Upon arrival, you will be met by your tour guide and driver at your arrival point. They will be holding a Siem Reaper name board with your name on it. It is possible you will be a little bleary-eyed after a long flight and there are also likely to be a large number of meeting boards displayed, so please take your time to locate them.

You will cycle on the charming backroads and jungle trails to discover the beautiful scenery of Cambodia and immerse yourself in the local Cambodian culture. Uncover the stories of the famous Angkor temples, learn about the ancient capital of the Khmer Kingdom, and head down to the Tonle Sap Lake, where you can experience the real activities of Cambodian people who live in the floating villages.

This trip is rated activity level “Moderate” and it involves moderate physical activity and is suitable for those with an intermediate level of fitness. It will be a great opportunity to explore the area while challenging yourself with some adventurous activities. There are four cycling days and riders are expected to cover an average distance of 40 to 45 kilometers (25 to 28 miles) per day with up to 95 percent support from vehicle transportation.

This is an excellent way to explore the area sustainably and healthily while also taking part in a meaningful experience. The terrain is remarkably flat which allows you to cycle on a range of surfaces, including tarmac roads and dirt tracks. This combination allows for a more varied cycling experience whilst also keeping the level of difficulty manageable.

Bikes

You will ride on a trek brand mountain bike, the Marlin 5 that has been designed to be both comfortable and durable. This bike is a trail-worthy daily rider that is perfectly suited for everyday adventures, on and off the trail. Siem Reaper Travel has a full range of bike sizes available for you to choose from, and the helmet is also included in your tour.

Siem Reaper Travel strongly recommends that you ride a mountain bike for trips that involve asphalt, dirt, and backroads, some of which are sandy and rocky. If you are much more comfortable with your own stuff, Siem Reaper Travel highly suggests bringing items such as pedals, saddles, helmets, and water bottles. The mechanic will make adjustments to your bikes and personal belongings.

Safety

Siem Reaper Travel recommends that you wear a helmet on all of Siem Reaper Travel's biking adventures. This is non-negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet, you will not be allowed to cycle. Your tour guide is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree, you must be responsible for your own safety while riding.

Angkor Backroads

Pedal your way across the historic temple complex and get to know its history from your friendly and professional guide. Ancient Ruin of Banteay Srei

Visiting the beautiful temples outside Angkor Park, including Banteay Samre and the intricately carved and well-preserved Banteay Srei, is a highlight of any trip to Cambodia. The detailed reliefs on this smaller sandstone temple are regarded as the finest, most skillfully crafted in all of Cambodia.

Tonle Sap Lake and Floating Villages

Tour the famous Kampong Phluk floating villages by riverboat. Explore the stilted houses and get a fascinating insight into the ways that these local people live in this region.
