Program

Day 1: Check-in at 12 p.m. at Aberdeen Feel Resort

Once you arrive at Aberdeen Waterfalls Edge Villa this day, you will check in and meet the team. The guide will show you the waterfall and village in Aberdeen.

You will have your lunch. In your spare time, you may relax in the villa, swim under the waterfall, enjoy barbecue-grilled dinner or Sri Lankan food, or take a rest at an amazing-viewed waterfall cabana.

Day 2: Cooking class - jungle trekking tour - tea plantation tour by motorcycle

This day, the team prepared a nice experience. You will take your breakfast at Aberdeen Waterfall's cabana. The Sri Lankan cookery class will start around 11 a.m. You will learn especially how to break the coconut and cook with coconut milk and Ayurveda salads, and until that time you can also enjoy a boat ride or swim under a waterfall natural pool. You can stay there until 10.30 a.m. After the cookery class, you will have lunch with the Sri Lankan food you made.

Then you will start motorcycling through the jungle to visit a tea plantation, and your guide will accompany you to explain the area to you. This motorcycle excursion will take around three hours. After reaching Aberdeen Waters Edge Cabanas, you can take a rest, then you are free to spend your night as you wish.

Day 3: Rafting - motorbike tour - Belilena historical caves - birdwatching - return to Aberdeen Falls

After breakfast, you will go to Kithulgala by tuk-tuk. Rafting will be ready for you there. After rafting, you can have your lunch with various foods mixed with Sri Lankan rice and curry.

Around 2 p.m., you will start the motorbike ride to visit the historical Belilena Cave. After you finish this excursion, you will ride to watch the birds in the bushes mix with the forest.

This activity is considered the main interest of a nature lover and can result in you seeing many of the country's endemic bird species, such as Sri Lanka's orange-billed babbler and chestnut-backed owlet, as well as reptiles such as green pit viper and earless lizard and a variety of butterflies.

At the end of the day, you will ride back to Aberdeen Water Falls Cabanas, and you can have a rest and dinner, which is Sri Lankan rice and curry with barbecue.

Day 4: Cooking class - breakfast - check-out

You will have an early morning cooking class before breakfast. The chef / cook will help you to make coconut rotty with Sri Lankan curries. For breakfast, you will taste the food that you cooked.

Check-out time will be 11 a.m., and until that time you are free to roam around. After the check-out, you will ride back to Hatton Railway Station. From there, you can catch the train, bus, or any other transport as you wish, and the guide will assist you in the matter.

Aberdeen Waterfalls

The 98-meter-high waterfalls of Aberdeen in Nuwara Eliya District are formed by the Kehelgamuwa, a tributary of the Kelani River. Aberdeen Falls, definitely among the most picturesque waterfalls of the island, is named after the nearby tea plantation, Aberdeen. Many tea plantations in Sri Lanka bear British names, Scottish toponyms in particular.

According to a typical folk belief in Sri Lanka’s highlands, Aberdeen Falls are connected with the Lakshapana Falls further south by a five-kilometer-long tunnel. Both waterfalls carry less water since water reservoirs and hydroelectric power stations were established in the area of the Kelani River tributaries between Maskeliya and Kithulgala. However, except for extraordinarily dry periods, the Kehelgamuwa River at Aberdeen Falls does not dry out completely.

A small observation platform is constructed close to the natural pool below Aberdeen Falls, which is picturesquely framed by rock surfaces. Despite this visitors’ terrace, travelers are rarely seen at Aberdeen Falls. It’s still an off-beaten-path destination.

Kithulgala Village

West of the road from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, Kitulgala is a popular adventure-sports center located amid thickly forested hills. Most visitors are young and energetic from Colombo, but foreign visitors are also starting to discover the region's white-water rafting, jungle trekking, bird watching, and cave exploration.

The town’s other main claim to fame is that David Lean filmed his 1957 Oscar-winning epic "Bridge on the River Kwai" here on the banks of the Kelaniya River, though there's little physical evidence left to see.

A few kilometers from Kithulgala is a large cave system where the 28,500-year-old remains of early humans were discovered. Many hotels in the area can arrange a guide to the Belilena Caves.

Laxapana Waterfall

The charming Koththelena village, with its breathtaking views of the Seven Virgin Hills, is the perfect escape from bustling city life. The secret to having a good time in Koththelena is to avoid the tourist traps and visit the spots tucked away in the hills. Think about majestic waterfalls, lush greenery, and a bed of clouds dotted with mountain ranges.

This picturesque waterfall that plummets over Maskeliya Oya is 126 meters (413 feet) high and is the eighth tallest waterfall in the country. It is situated in the valley of the Maskeliya Oya area in the foothills of the Seven Virgin Hills in the Nuwara Eliya District. It is formed by the Maskeliya Oya upstream near the confluence of Kehelgamu Oya and Maskeliya Oya, which later forms the mighty Kelani River. Laxapana literally means “a hundred thousand lamps.”
