Daily itinerary
Day 1
- Distance: 55 kilometers / 35 miles
The tour starts every Thursday at 09:00 a.m. from Thailand Biking's office at Baan Nai Fun 1 in Pa-Dead and takes you southwards following the Ping River over quiet roads and through small villages while cycling and enjoying the beautiful changing surroundings. In Lamphun, you pass by cycling two beautiful Dvaravati-styled chedis. These chedis are known for holding the relics of Queen Cham-Devi her horse and elephant and are more than 1000 years old. To learn more about the history of this city, you visit the Haripunchai Museum which will give you more insight into this remarkable place.
After this visit, it is time for a delicious Thai lunch. After lunch, you have a look at a local temple where older women keep themselves occupied with silk weaving. You continue your trip by visiting one of the most revered temples in Northern Thailand: Wat Harinpunchai. After visiting and photographing this beautiful temple, you leave the city behind and continue your discovery tour through rice fields and fruit orchards till you reach your idyllic-situated resort where you spend the night.
Day 2
- Distance: 60 kilometers / 38 miles
On the second day, you start at 8:30 a.m. from the resort and cycle through a district that is not often visited by tourists so do not be surprised if the locals want to talk to you or show you their merchandise. The whole day you will be enjoying the beautiful paths that lead you from one village to another. In these villages, you see the daily activities of the villagers like making rice wine, rice noodles, and Sa paper. While cycling through these villages, you discover several chedis and ruins, some are even more than 700 years old.
You visit a temple that is well known for having the footprints of the lord Buddha. After this visit, you continue your trip and visit a family atelier that makes porcelain dolls. This family atelier is already for more than 50 years in business and the owner is always very proud to show his unique collection of thousands of porcelain dolls. After lunch, the route brings you back to the Ping River which you follow north this time, over quiet lanes and country roads until you reach the handicraft village Baan Tawai.
Here you have a cold drink while you can stroll around the many shops that produce and sell many different kinds of handy crafts. With the last stop, you visit a local market where you will have some explaining and tasting of the local snacks and fruits before you cycle the last part back to the office where you will arrive at approximately 4:30 p.m.
About the holiday
During this unforgettable cycling excursion over peaceful country roads, passing by rice fields, fruit orchards, and beautiful temples in small villages, you will get to know the rich cultural background of this first Lanna kingdom. The route goes for a big part through these small communities where you see the daily activities of the villagers and avoid most of the traffic. They only develop and operate tours for people who can balance and ride a bicycle. If you are not able to ride a bicycle, you cannot join this program.
Although the holiday is very relaxed, some parts go through narrow alleys that require some steering skills. Besides cycling, no special skills are required. If you have a condition that requires special attention, please inform them in advance so that they can advise what is best for you. Children of 12 years and older can join this bicycle adventure. For families with children younger than 12 years, always handle a private tour.
This way they can focus on the youngest participants and change the routing a little if needed or make an extra stop. This is the best way for both, parents and kids, to enjoy the rides. A private tour is, depending on how many participants are in total, maybe a little bit more expensive but it is so much more convenient for your child.
