Certification
SYM provides professional diploma courses fully certified and accredited by Yoga Alliance International (YAI) and SYM. Upon graduation, you can practice and teach anywhere in the world as you will be able to join any country’s national federation.
There is no international Shiatsu Federation and as students come from various countries it is best to join your own country’s federation upon graduation. The Shiatsu course syllabus follows the European standard set forth by the European Shiatsu Federation. This federation does not accept individual practitioners but only works with other national federations within Europe.
This certified course integrates traditional Zen Shiatsu with advanced energy work and chakra healing. The unique program is taught by Gerry Rixen who brings his 35 years of practice and teaching of Shiatsu, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), yoga, and martial arts to the course.
The full programs include three modules and each module consists of a three-week residential course. It is possible to do more than one module per year.
This first-year module can be done as a single certification course and is complete in itself.
Zen Shiatsu
Zen Shiatsu and polarity resonance are rooted in Oriental Medicine with its notions of energetic movement, meridians, acupuncture points and chakras; energy channels, points and vortexes. These informational fields are stimulated through touch, technique, intention, empathy and energetic input
Healing naturally follows, bringing new energy, movement, blood and consciousness into the hidden parts of the body/mind and releasing corresponding blockages. The deeply relaxing effect allows for healing on all levels including the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies.
Zen Shiatsu is energy medicine at the deepest level working directly with the life force thereby enabling that profound healing of body, mind and soul.
This leads to the tremendously effective healing of many common ailments and illnesses as well as chronic and degenerative diseases such as back pain, IBS, constipation, Crohn’s disease, asthma, skin problems, bloating, insomnia, period pains, headaches, stress, anxiety and even arthritis and cancer.
Shiatsu style
Zen Shiatsu was developed by Shizuto Masunaga bringing together Shiatsu and energy work based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and the link with the meridians. Masunaga developed this practice to include stretching and breathing exercises similar to yoga.
The Hatha yoga taught here is broadly based on the Sivananda and Iyengar Yoga Methods. The course teaches an energetic approach to yoga, really feeling the postures and tapping into their unique healing potentials.
You will practice flow, but more emphasis is placed on steadiness in the posture with correct alignment of physical and energetic bodies as well as mindset within poses. This requires you to be slower in your practice, to truly feel and understand the tremendous therapeutic effects of the asana.
This slower way of practicing greatly enhances the students' capacity to work and feel the effects of their Shiatsu practice.
