Disenfranchised grief is the result of a loss that is ignored, unsupported, or stigmatized. Examples of this are pregnancy loss, loss by suicide, loss by homicide, and loss by addiction / overdose. This retreat will help you move from this space of hurting to a space of healing, hope, and gratitude.
All accommodations have luxurious amenities, Tempurpedic mattresses, bamboo sheets, ensuite or detached bathrooms, and access to electricity, air conditioning, or heating. Some accommodations have private lounging areas or patios. The accommodations that participans will have on this retreat are:
People experiencing this type of grief can feel all alone, unheard, and unseen because not many people know how to support someone suffering from these types of losses.
Disenfranchised grief is a type of grief resulting from a loss that is not supported, acknowledged, or validated in any way due to cultural or social stigma. Some examples of losses that can lead to disenfranchised grief are loss by suicide, loss by addiction or overdose, and pregnancy loss.
People experiencing disenfranchised grief often find themselves feeling alone and isolated because they have no outlet to process their grief. Others in their circle may not want to talk about the loss or they just don't understand it.
At this retreat, you will be surrounded by individuals who understand what you've been through and can provide a soft space for you to express yourself, relax, and get refreshed.
You will be in a space where you can begin to unpack the loss and the grief surrounding it. You will have a chance to connect to yourself and others via various activities such as discussion, somatic healing (yoga and breathwork), equine-human connecting (yes, you will get to work with horses, but no riding though), and creativity-based activities like journaling and art.
Allow yourself the space to heal and recover from your own experience of disenfranchised grief, which is grief from a loss that is not acknowledged, validated, or supported (loss of pregnancy, loss due to addiction / overdose, loss due to homicide, loss due to suicide, loss of a same-sex partner, etc.).
On this four-night, five-day retreat, you will experience gentle techniques and somatic self-love approaches in a supportive atmosphere. This retreat is a joint venture between Throwing Starfish LLC and Four Dimensions Wellness.
Women who have experienced a loss, particularly a loss that has not been acknowledged, supported, or validated (Examples: pregnancy loss, loss due to suicide).
You can expect to be pampered and catered to in a healing way because that is exactly what a person who is grieving needs. You will stay at luxurious, glamping-style accommodations, eat nutritious and specially-prepared foods, and have access to amenities that can help the healing process (pools, trails, ranch animals, meditation labyrinth, and more!).
On the first day, Throwing Starfish LLC will spend time welcoming you and helping you get comfortable and grounded into the retreat space.
Participants will spend some time getting to know themselves and their grief through activities such as somatic healing, equine-oriented connection, art, and journaling.
The following day, it will continue with the activities from day 2 and allow time for retreatants to process their experiences and become familiar with the amenities the Retreat Ranch venue offers (trails, pools, sauna, etc.).
Holistic activities to address the mind / body / spirit impact from grief:
Retreatants will also have plenty of time to relax, rest and reflect.
You will start integrating all that you have learned and experienced through various somatic and creative activities, plus show support to others via safe and powerful conversations.
The group will conclude their time together and prepare to reintegrate into their worlds with powerful and soothing reconnection activities. Resources for additional healing and connection will be offered.
Lori is one of the retreat co-hosts. She is a writer, author, journal coach, and grief counselor. She runs a private practice in Pennsylvania.
Jennifer ‘Suki’ Otsuki is an Austin native who dedicated nearly two decades to the restaurant industry in Dallas after graduating Texas Culinary Academy in Austin. The service industry gave her a lot of life experience, much of which mentally and physically led her to her yoga mat and she continues to cultivate a blossoming 20-year yoga practice. She still thrives on a life of servitude, though it looks different now. After years of cultivating self-love and reclaiming a life worth living, she is here to show others the way. Jennifer will be the private chef for this retreat.
The venue will be The Retreat Ranch, a working ranch and retreat center that offers luxury-oriented, glamping-style accommodations. These range from private yurts, cabins, and container villas to a bunkhouse. Also onsite are walking trails, horses, a store, a meditation labyrinth, dipping pools, hot tub, sauna, lounging hammock, and more.
The Retreat Ranch is located off US Highway 281 near Marble Falls, TX.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be prepared by Throwing Starfish LLC's onsite private chef using locally-sourced foods. Dietary / allergy restrictions must be communicated to the chef prior to the retreat.
Throwing Starfish LLC has one more package, the Sunchaser Vintage Trailer for 2,550 USD. Add a friend for an additional 1,249.
