Every day, the group will be walking a minimum of three hours. There will also be uphill streets and stairs. The bus rides will vary in time, from 20 minutes to two hours.
Day 1 - Monday, Arrival in Edenborough
Participants will transfer to Edenborough as a group. The guide will be waiting for them and they will start the tour to the Highlands.
Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park
The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park is the first of Scotland's National Parks, and takes in over 1,800 square
kilometers of the Southern Highlands. Sit back and relax as you pass through lovely villages and beautiful glens. The journey will also be full of folklore and tales of Highland Clans.
Glencoe and Rannoch Moor
The group will explore the world famous Glencoe and Rannoch Moor. There will be photo stops and tales of Highland warriors with an epic backdrop.
The Buachaille Etive Mhor is a famous mountain landmark. Movies - from Harry Potter to James Bond - have used Glencoe as a setting. Kings and queens have also travelled those roads, including Mary, Queen of Scots.
Glenfinnan Viaduct (Harry Potter bridge)
The filming of the second and third Harry Potter books took place in this area, with the Hogwarts Express calling at
Glenfinnan! The viaduct is instantly recognizable and the area is beautiful. It will be a truly unique experience.
Jacobites and Bonnie Prince Charlie
Another must-see is the Glenfinnan Monument, which commemorates the Jacobite clansmen who fought and gave their
lives in support of Charles Edward Stuart, often called Bonnie Prince Charlie. The Highland Clans rallied at that very spot in 1745 in what was a pivotal point in Scottish history.
Over the sea to Skye
The group embark on a short ferry journey from the mainland port of Mallaig to the Isle of Skye. Often, you can see dolphins and seals as you pass the Knoydart Peninsula. Knoydart is known as the last great wilderness in the UK.
Check in at Portree
After checking into the bed and breakfast / hotel, a superb choice of local experiences in Portree await. With great pubs, wonderful views, and a stay in a traditional island village, Portree will be a truly unique experience. Warm Highland hospitality awaits.
- Accommodations: To be announced
- Meals: Breakfast, box lunch, and welcome dinner
Day 2 - Tuesday, Highlands full day
The Old Man of Storr
This is a famous Skye landmark. A hike to the top is a great option, weather permitting. The Storr is a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west.
Skye is an island of legends and the Storr is no different. It is a great tale to tell as you walk to the top or admire the view
from below.
Kilt Rock - Mealt waterfall
Mealt Falls was certainly one of those waterfalls with that “Wow!” factor. It is a stunning falls on the Trotternish Peninsula of Skye. Trotternish, or Tròndairnis, is the northernmost peninsula of the Isle of Skye.
The Quiraing
This is an essential view point for any visitor to Skye, where some of the most spectacular landscapes in Scotland await. It is a fairytale landscape! As part of the Trotternish ridge, it has been formed by a massive landslip that has created high cliffs, hidden plateaus, and pinnacles of rock. It is a true wonder and a great short hike.
The Fairy Glen
Breathe the sea air in and gaze across the highlands and islands of Scotland and the Atlantic Ocean. The Isle of Skye’s rugged coastline is the perfect place to hear some local history and folklore. Many believe that ‘faeries’ are still with them, just out of sight, behind a thin veil of mist. Standing there, immersed in the mystery of the “Fairy Glen,” it will be easy to see why.
Sligachan and the Black Cuillin
There’s a little bridge in Sligachan on the Isle of Skye. A small stream runs below it, and you can look up to a mighty mountain. Many travelers would never think to stop there to have a look around. To other, it’s just another beautiful stream in the Scottish
Highlands.
Return to Portree
The group will return to the beautiful village of Portree. A choice of dining awaits. Relax and enjoy warm Highland hospitality. Tierno Tours would always recommend making dinner reservations in advance. They would be delighted to assist and recommend their favourites.
- Accommodations: To be announced
- Meals: Breakfast and dinner
Day 3 - Wednesday, Highlands full day
Isle of Skye Bridge and Kyle of Lochalsh
The Isle of Skye is connected to the mainland by a road bridge, linking the mainland village of Kyle of Lochalsh to the village of Kyleakin on Skye. Since December 2004, the bridge has been free to cross for all, but it was not always this way. Now a famous Scottish landmark, the Skye Bridge is a spectacular sight.
Eilean Donan Castle
Eilean Donan Castle is one of Scotland's most famous Castles, and certainly the most photographed. The name Eilean Donan, or island of Donan, is most probably coined after the sixth century Irish Saint, Bishop Donan, who came to Scotland around 580 AD. The castle is magnificent and is steeped in history and legend.
Glen Shiel
Spectacular Glen Shiel runs approximately nine miles from south-east to north-west. It is home to the Cluanie Inn at the western end of Loch Cluanie and the start of Glenmoriston to sea level at the village of Shiel Bridge.
View points from Mam Rattagan to the Five Sisters Mountain range are breathtaking and tales of the Highland princess frozen in stone as well as Jacobite battles make this glen a real favorite.
Loch Ness - Fort Augustus
Participants will be travelling to Scotland's most famous loch, searching for 'Nessie' or the Loch Ness Monster. Experience Loch Ness from the water and search for the Loch Ness Monster on the family-friendly boat trips that depart on the hour. Loch Ness cruises are great fun and really informative too. Or, you can choose to explore the local village of Fort Augustus.
Cairngorms National Park (drive)
The group will drive through the southern boundary of the Cairngorm National Park. Twice the size of the Lake District, the
Cairngorms National Park has more mountains, forest paths, rivers, lochs, and wildlife hotspots.
Five of the UK's six highest mountains also lie inside the park, alongside 55 Munros - mountains over 3,000 feet.
Forth Rail Bridge
The iconic Forth Rail Bridge opened in 1890. It is a real Scottish landmark and a great photo stop, as the group makes their way to the city of Edinburgh. Still carrying all the rail traffic across the Firth, the bridge is a marvelous sight.
Sadly, this means nearing the end of the epic voyage through the Highlands and islands of Scotland.
- Return to Edinburgh: 17:30 - 18:00
- Accommodations: To be announced
- Meals: Breakfast and dinner
Day 4 - Thursday, Say goodbye to Scotland
