Itinerary
Day 1: Prionia - Spilios Agapitos Refuge
- Distance: 6 kilometers / 3.7 miles
- Duration: 4 hours
Prionia is at an altitude of 1,100 meters / 3,609 feet, with a parking lot. It is a 6-kilometer route approximately 4-5 hours with stops, and is the most widely used hiking trail on Mount Olympus. The biggest part of this hike goes through thick pine forests, beech, and fir trees, and is in good condition.
The finishing point for the first day is Spilios Agapitos Refuge, where you will stay for the night inside the refuge or outside in tents. The refuge is fully equipped with a bathroom, kitchen and power supply. From there, you can enjoy the Aegean Sea and the beautiful colors during sunset.
Day 2: Spilios Agapitos Refuge - Skala - Skolio - Spilios Agapitos - Prionia
- Distance: 13 kilometers / 8 miles
- Duration: 9 hours
You wake up early in the morning enjoying the sun rising and after having your breakfast, you start hiking to Skala and Skolio peaks. After reaching the peaks and enjoying the view, you return to the refuge for a short rest, and then you head back to Prionia.
The tour can be changed according to your needs and preferences.
Equipment
These are the equipment that you will need during the hiking program:
- Light hiking shoes or hiking boots
- Hiking poles (Trail Path can provide if you don’t have any)
- Backpack of at least 40 liters
- Waterproof backpack cover
- Clothing according to the weather conditions
- Sleeping bag or sheets for the refuges
- Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
- Waterproof jacket or membrane
- Light snack
- Bottle of water 1.5 liters
- Hygiene items and personal medicines
- Headlamp
