This tour is ideal for those seeking to combine an interest in Buddhist culture with a mountain biking adventure through Cambodia's countryside. You cycle on flat dirt trails to explore the Cambodian countryside and local villages and learn about local life by visiting local people on the island of Mekong, Khmer ceramic pottery villages, and Battambang province. You cycle through the less well-known road to the Angkor Wat temple to learn more about the world’s largest religious movement temple and cycle to Banteay Srei temple with a drive to the Thousand Lingas River, the site known as Kbal Spean.
Throughout this cycling journey, you take a 6-night to stay in a central province of Cambodia: a 1-night stay at an eco-friendly guesthouse in Kampong Chhnang province, and 5 5-night stay at a standard hotel in Battambang province and Siem Reap province.
Standard hotel 5 nights, and guesthouse 1 night.
This leisurely cycle tour is simply the best way to explore the highlights of a country whose chief means of transport often seems to be the bike. Starting in Phnom Penh, you are provided with your bikes and set off to explore backroads and village trails amongst the breathtaking temples of Angkor Wat. A boat trip on the great waterway of Tonle Sap then takes you to Siem Reap which is the city of the world’s religious temples including Angkor Wat temple. A final, you also seek out less well-known temples and sacred sites, such as Kbal Spean, hidden in the forest. A leisurely mountain biking holiday, offering the chance to experience the very best of Cambodia.
You will be provided hotel pick up that starts from 7:30 am then drive to your bike shop located on the Mekong island which takes around 1 hour including crossing the river by ferry and upon the group size. Upon arrival, you choose the bike to fit your size and wear a helmet and your guide will have a brief about the trip including how to use your bicycle, and riding side, and test a ride a little bit before we start. You begin your mountain biking through the Silk Island where you will explore different crops of farmland such as banana, and mango plantations, numerous vegetable farms, and local villages and learn about the silk weaving process when you visit their weaving community.
Then, you took the next ride to see the bean curd factory and learn how they make it from the soybean. Continuously, you take another ferry headed to Tonle Sap River where you’ll encounter experience with the Khmer community, Muslim community, paddy rice fields, lotus farms, fishing community, and silversmith community before having lunch at Oudong Mount. Oudong was the former royal capital of Cambodia from the 17th to the 19th centuries. A refreshing and stunning view from the top of Oudong Mount is the ideal way to end your first day before you transfer to your overnight stay at Kampong Chhnang town.
You take your bike ride through the city of Kampong Chhnang and visit some French colonial architecture buildings including one of the French colonial houses, Felix Louis Bardez. He was beaten to death by the villagers of Kraing Laev on 18th April 1925, where he had been attempting to collect delinquent taxes. Bardez was an experienced administrator, with over ten years of service in the Protectorate. He was forty-two years old. Two Cambodians who had accompanied him to the village, a militiaman and an interpreter, were killed at the same time.
Continuously, you cycled to the Khmer ceramic pottery villages where they made a lot of products for household use like pots, stoves, earthenware, etc from the clay. Interestingly, you try handmade ceramic pottery products and explore that peaceful village which is covered by paddy rice fields, and pamp trees with a mountain view of Neang Kang Rei mount that most people in Kampong Chhnang known that legend and recognized her body turned into the mountain which lies across the river in Kampong Chhnang and still resembles the body of a prone woman.
After relaxing and enjoying Khmer food in this town, you have a few hours to transfer to Battambang which is a classically quaint provincial capital – old-world architecture.
After breakfast, you get a sightseeing tour through Battambang town which is a classically quaint provincial capital – old-world architecture and even older pagodas set picturesquely along a river, and even though the city is one of the country’s largest, it is still lightly touristed. In town, charming colonial-era buildings line narrow lanes, including the ‘walking district’ near the market where contemporary art galleries, local and foreign cafes, shops, and bars inhabit the old shophouses. Then you continued to visit the oldest Khmer traditional house, Ek Phnom Temple, and its countryside through the Sangke River.
You went back for lunch in the town and rested at the hotel for a few hours before you continued to get a bamboo train, visit Phnom Banan temple and sunset at Sampov mountain where the bat will fly out from the cave. Phnom Banan is a mountaintop, mid-11th century Angkorian-era ruin consisting of five prasats (towers) arranged in the quincunx (five-pointed) form reminiscent of Angkor Wat.
There is no biking today, perhaps you have another interesting thing to do go by boat from Battambang to Siem Reap through the Tonle Sap River which is the richest setting of beautiful floating villages, farmlands, and a chance to see any species of wetland birds. Upon your arrival in Siem Reap town, you check in the hotel and relax before enjoying an Apsara Dance Dinner at this beautiful city of the world religious monument.
Get to the Angkor Wat temple early, they pick up from your hotel upon the time you confirm your booking. Going by van or car through the busy road, ahead of the crowds, and heading to the Angkor Archeological Park and the Angkor Wat temple where your guide will find out the perfect position to watch the dawn break. If the weather is good, it will allow the spectacle of the temple itself, and the dramatic colors of the sky to appear mirrored in the water as the sun rises.
Discover the world religious temple with your guide who will brief you with overviews of Angkor Wat temple, and some more stories behind the bas-relief carvings, and provide insight into life during the height of the Khmer Empire, after you enjoy breakfast, outside the temple within the peaceful area.
The rest of the day is biking through the hidden jungle trails of Angkor Archeological Park enveloped by Ta Prohm, Angkor Thom City, and Bayon Temple which are the most magnificent jungle temples, where you can soak up the spirit of Tomb Raider. After the enjoy of cycling through the mysterious jungle surrounding the temples and local villages before you take lunch, you will get back to the town and our hotel with the expect to arrive around 2:30 pm.
During your time at Siem Reap, you will make several mountain bike adventures and on this day you will ride out beneath the peak of Phnom Bok, taking quiet roads to the temple of Banteay Srei, which is located 23 kilometers to the north-east of Angkor Wat. Banteay Srei or ‘Citadel of Women’ is one of the most elaborate temples in the Angkor region and arguably the jewel in the crown of Angkorian artisanship, with perhaps the finest stone carving seen anywhere on earth. After a visit to the temple and a relaxing packed lunch, you continue to the Siem Reap River to the site known as Kbal Spean, the ‘Thousand Lingas River’.
Rocks on either side of the stream and even under the water have been intricately carved. The carvings represent epic Hindu themes; including Shiva, Nandi (Shiva’s bull), as well as the innumerable phalluses. A refreshing dip in a waterfall is the ideal way to end your day before you return to your hotel in Siem Reap.
As there are no activities planned for today, you can leave your accommodation at any time. Breakfast is served at the hotel and upon your flight schedule, you will leave from the hotel at any time to the airport for the flight to your next destination. Your guide and driver will serve you and say goodbye from Cambodia.
