Workout Away in Cornwall is the perfect four-night escape to one of the most beautiful corners of the UK. Home for this programme is the stunning St Michaels Resort in Falmouth. This beachside resort is set in sub-tropical gardens and boasts an impressive health and wellness offering. If you love being active outdoors, this corning escape is for you! Your training will be varied, allowing you to get involved in a bit of everything. From yoga to HIIT training, surfing and boot camps, this program has it all!
Each bedroom at St Michaels Resort is beautifully decorated with inspiration taken from the Cornish coast. Your room is the perfect space to relax and unwind after your day of activities and events. You'll find amenities by Elemis, luxury bath towels, and tea and coffee facilities. On the doorstep, you'll find the blue flag Gyllyngvase beach, where you can relax or start your coastal trail. If you're up for a longer walk, you can visit Maenporth and Swanpool beaches both within walking distance.
On this trip, you'll push further towards your fitness goals. If a sunrise circuits class on the beach sounds up your street, you'll love this escape. The HIIT and core training sessions are high intensity, sweaty and challenging. You'll wind it down with yoga-inspired classes to draw a balance in the training schedule. On two days of this programme, you'll head to surf and stand-up paddleboarding school to learn the basics or improve your skills.
With you for the whole programme is a Workout Away group fitness leader, who will be on hand at any time should you need anything at all. You will meet some new friends too! You'll join the group on day one and enjoy this programme as a team.
HIIT is a 35-minute high-intensity interval training session designed to burn calories, reduce body fat, and tone. This science-proven workout improves cardiovascular fitness, speed, agility and challenges your fitness beyond normal physical limits.
Set to cool beats, this 40-minute class improves your full body strength as well as flexibility, balance and coordination. The fast flowing movements and use of resistance bands provide us with a great conditioning workout that also gets your heart rate up. Although moderate intensity, you will certainly feel the burn in this workout.
Made up of several stations, this high-intensity workout is a combination of exercises targeting your upper and lower body. You’ll improve your speed, stamina and strength with a fierce cardio kick.
The group will meet surf instructors at Maenporth beach, close to the hotel. Before you head out onto the water, some safety and technique basics will be covered. Once you're ready, you'll take on some waves and practice your skills.
This session starts with a dry run on the beach, giving you the chance to learn some basic strokes. You'll then head out onto the water with the instructor and enjoy an hour and a half exploring the area around Gyllyngvase beach.
Once you arrive at the hydrothermal spa, you will not want to leave. Immerse yourself in the Cornish salt or rainforest steam room, the red cedar hot tub, or the Finnish herbal sauna. The 21 station hydrotherapy pool is the ideal place to ease away any aches or tension from your workouts.
So this is what you can expect from your trip. As you can see, there’s plenty to keep you busy, active and feeling great! All activities are optional and included. You may want to get involved in everything, but it is understandable that everyone needs a bit of me-time too.
Chris has been with Workout Away right from the start. With a mixed background, travel has always been a huge passion and part of Chris' life. Chris started his fitness career teaching Les Mills group exercise classes for large gym chains in the UK. Whilst you will still find him teaching HIIT and conditioning classes on the studio floor, he now looks after the Workout Away programming and training across all of gorgeous destinations.
The thing about Kerry is that it’s pretty difficult to keep her in one place! If she’s not working out in Ibiza, you’ll find her soaking up the sun on the Italian Riviera. When Kerry is teaching, it’s impossible not to get inspired by her infectious personality and awesome coaching. If you want to push further towards your physical limits then Kerry is your girl! Just look for the most amazing head of curls you’ve ever seen and you’ve found her!
Amanda escaped the corporate world a few years ago as she discovered her love for all things fitness. She’s our Pilates queen and is probably not someone you want to do the plank challenge against. This girl's got serious strength! As well as being one of our talented Group Fitness Leaders teaching our HIIT, circuits and boot camp sessions, Amanda runs her own YouTube channel @amandacallandpilates, you’ll find some awesome short workouts on there! This year you’ll find Amanda leading our groups in the UK and Portugal!
St Michaels Resort is within walking distance to Falmouth Harbour and the beach. From London, you can reach the hotel by train in around five hours with one change in Truro. You're also able to fly to Newquay from London, Manchester, Teesside, and Leeds Bradford, and then take a 45-minute taxi to Falmouth from the airport.
