Markus, his partner, and his staff were most gracious and caring. Their pousada is charming and comfortable. Eduardo's compassion and concern for my well-being during my ayahuasca ceremony gave me confidence to partake of the medicine. The visions I received were astounding and healing. I have traveled a lot of places in my 64 years, both fancy and rustic, and I must say this particular experience ranks in the top 3 of my life travels. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for the opportunity to meet Markus, Edu, Verena, and the others. I hope to return soon!

I had the most wonderful time. Markus and Manny went above and beyond. The food was incredible, the accommodations were perfect. I don’t think I have ever been as relaxed as I was during my stay here.

I had the most wonderful time relaxing and being taken care of by the most amazing staff at Rancho Fundo. Everything was wonderful. I came tired and left rejuvenated. I’m going back for sure when my tank is empty in the future. The place is magical.

Die Pousada ist sehr sauber, gepflegt und ruhig, sehr sicher und bietet eine gemütliche, entspannte Atmosphäre. Die Betreiber sind hilfsbereit, sprechen Englisch, Portugiesisch und Deutsch und kennen sich bestens mit den lokalen Gepflogenheiten aus.

Well I was a Canadian with no Portuguese ability at all. I wanted to try ayahuasca since I was younger and wanted to try a more traditional ceremony. Firstly, the owner of the hotel, Marcus speaks 4 languages included English for me which was a huge help! He picked me up from the airport and brought me back when I had to leave. His hotel was spotless everyday as the hard workers took excellent care of it. I felt like I was in a jungle retreat at the hotel with tortoises, birds , fruit trees, lizards. The food they cooked everyday was 5 star quality. And finally when I did my ayahuasca experience it was excellent as well. Marcus also drove me there and picked me up in the morning after a night of the trip! I would recommend this to anyone, can’t beat this experience; especially for its value!

De omgeving liet het toe om in alle rust te bekomen. We zijn twee keer rond het domein gaan lopen (veilig)

An incredibly refreshing and enlightening 2 weeks. The hotel hosts were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and made me feel at home. As a Canadian who doesn't speak Portuguese, I felt very comfortable navigating due to the help of the hotel hosts and Capoeira teachers.

I was a beginner in Capoeira and Esperaca taught me the foundations and relevant history that allowed me to actually work my way up to participating a Capoeria 'roda' (circle) at the local Capoeira gym - which was one of the coolest and liveliest experiences of my life. She was very patient and kind and helped me develop overall fitness foundations so I could perform at my best. Although I was I the camp, I got exposure to the beauty of Bahia, the Brazilian culture and so many rich aspects of Capoeira. Finally, the beaches in Bahia was absolutely stunning and the food was very flavorful and delicious!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to spend 14 days here and would do it again in a heartbeat!

If you want to learn Capoeira Salvador is the place to do it. The instructors were excellent. Marley was brilliant, a great martial artist and such a nice guy. The hotel was really nice, very safe, and the staff were so accommodating. The food was really good and the rooms really nice. I highly recommend this Capoeira course and the Pousada, but try to see when booking that they can book you with other campers to improve the overall experience. I had a great time, but I was the only one on the course, and I was flexible with my dates so I could have moved it about to fit with some other people who were also keen to learn capoeira. Also the Pousada was further from the beach than I thought, so just be aware of this. Overall I had a fantastic time and would recommend.

Even in terms of capoeira in Brasil, grupo Engenho and their instructors are some of the best around. They live and breathe capoeira, and are excited to share everything from the movements to the music with anyone who wants to learn. The experience you get practicing at the center in Abrantes is unique, the people are friendly and talented, and the accommodation and transportation is superb. I strongly recommend learning at least some Portuguese before going, and having some formation in dance / being in good shape to get the most out of it. Even then, the instructors have lots of experience teaching total beginners, and you will never be excluded for learning.
